Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() Thanks again Crystalsmom, i'll definately give that a try! I just gave her a bath about 15 minutes ago and took some pictures. She absolutely refuses to be still for pictures. She was still a little wet but I tried to get a decent picture. This is just to get a better glimpse of her coat. Can anyone give me an idea on what kind of coat she has? Note: Please disregard the towel in the background on the floor. I used that to dry her off and she decided to drag it over to the fireplace and then rub herself on it like a mad woman. Haha!

| ![]() From the head shot her gold is so pretty and looks so thick but on the other shot, I can see how short it is and know what you mean now. Does anyone else have any ideas??

| ![]() I think you might be dealing with a coarse type coat. They are very slow growing and sometimes grow to a certain length and then stop. Food or shampoo won't help if this is the case. I have a female with this type of coat and it looks like the hair in the picture of yours. ( the head/neck pic) |

| ![]() It could be that she is a throw from her earlier ancesters, or that somewhere in her line there could have been an Australian Terrier. I'm afraid no matter what you feed her or bathe her in, this is going to be the way her coat will stay. She's such a doll baby. Thankfully she's healthy and not having health problems like I've been reading about lately. |

| ![]() my first girl of which I have three of her babies didn't have much hair and I never cut it. Unfortunately she died at age 5 because of a frog and (how God works in different ways)the moment she died her grandaughter was being born and I kept her. Two of her babies have silky and shor hair (gold and black, some blue now that they are seven) I also never cut the lenght of their hair. About a year ago I decided to cut the length a little and now the female has hair down to the floor and silky and the male's is growing but slowly. The other male has beautiful black and gold hair but never grew long to the floor. I feed them Beneful, bathe them with a shampoo to brighten the black and also another one that includes tar to help with the dryness and after they are dry I use neutrogena oil (a person with show dogs told me about it)on their hair as I brush it. Good luck and keep trimming it. |

| ![]() zoey's coat looks like my parker. it took three years for it to get long. You are luck because this kind of coat is easier to take care of.the breeder i got him from said when you bath him to handel the coat like a fine cashmere sweater because it brakes easly. if they get fleas they will brake the hair from sratching. parker completly broke all the hair on one side and i only found one flea on him.also harnesses can brake it. hope this helps

| ![]() she loks like she has a course coat. Most of these type of coats never grow to be full length. You might have her thyroid checked. Looks like you have supplemented alot, so I dont think thats the problem. Their is a web-site that has an article :how to grow hair on a door knob. The web-site is for the Lowchen, but the article is for them and Yorkies. Does her hair break easily? Growing a long coat takes alot of work and diligence. Carpet, grass, dirt back play yards can all break that hair off. Most show dogs in show coat are only allowed on tile until they finish showing. Most are wrapped also. I bath and groom mine about every 5 days, with maintainence everyday. Some Yorkies just dont have the genetics to grow a long coat. Good luck!!! |

| ![]() You might check with some of the old-time breeders. I remember something being said about Yorkies that they called "Red-Legs". They were used to return color to your breeding and were good at producing the color but with the silk coat. I'm not sure exactly because I have only heard of them, but they were not able to grow coat. I may have read it in one of the older books on Yorkies. ![]() |
