Groomer Horror Story!!!
 

My emotions are going nuts right now, I don't know whether I should cry, be angry, or feel extremely guilty...So I'm doing a little of all three.

Today Beau had an appointment at the groomers. Last time he was there he got a really cute cut and I was extremely happy with her! I was decently charged ($35) and his hair didn't look like he was just chewed on like it used too from the last groomer. NEVER AGAIN WILL I BRING HIM TO A GROOMER!! I am going to learn how to cut his hair myself. No questions about it.

First off, when I brought Beau in, he was shaking and acting like I was going to sell him to the black market...so I got a weird feeling. Then I was locked out for 10 minutes because my groomer was late to work (which I don't understand because she grooms in her house!!!) and when I got in there I noticed that she had 4 fox terriers in a dog kennel and they were jumping all over each other! They were packed like sardines! I said good-bye to him and informed her that my mom was going to pick him up on her lunch around 12:30 because I had class until 2:30. All seemed fine until I came home. Beau wasn't in his kennel which I know means something tramatic happened to him (when something bad happens to him, which it always does, my mom feels bad and things she is "treating" him by letting him say out of his kennel while I'm gone.) Anyways, I came home and Beau was more excited than usual too see me. I bent down to check him out and noticed that he was TOTALLY bald inbetween his eyes!! (I'm guessing that is because I complained that he gets eye boogers a lot. ) Then I was touching his ears (its a comfort thing I do to him right before I fall asleep at night) and I noticed that one whole side of his ear was crunchy. I took a closer look and I noticed that part of his ear was MISSING!!! I instantly called my mom and asked her if the groomer said anything about Beau's ear and my mom said that the groomer admitted to snipping through Beau's ear with a clippers, ALMOST cutting off the whole thing! Around the edge there is a part missing that will never be fixed but the groomer promises that if I keep the goop on his ear that it will grow back together. If it doesn't she is going to have something else coming! Let me tell you! I am wild about this! She even charged us! I'm pissed!!!!! At least my mom knew enough to say something to her. My mom said, "Well I know that I'm supposed to give you a tip, but I think the tip off my daughter's dog's ear is enough." then she walked out!

I can't believe people!!!!! My mom said that when she got there to pick Beau up, the lady had him in a cramped cage with other dogs, and he was pacing back and forth!! I don't get it! Shouldn't people need a liscense to cut dog hair? Just think...she could have clipped off something more lethal than a huge hunk of my baby's ear... Poor poor Beau-beau. I feel so guilty!!! He didn't even need to get a hair cut THAT badly!! I shouldn't have broughten him! I learned my lesson the hard way though...I'm going to get a bunch of DVD's and cut his hair myself!!!

Omgosh! I am so sorry for little Beau and for you too!

If it were me, he would be at the vets office ASAP and the groomer would pay for it!

Your dog needs to go to the vet today. That could be very serious and you can't cut through a body part without problems. I am so sorry this happened to you. Groomers are WAY too risky and I will not allow Ellie to go to one. Atleast I don't almost cut her body parts off.:mad:
Please take Beau to the vet (the groomer needs to pay for it) and report this to the BBB.

Yes i would take him to the vet also, dont trust what the groomer said , its your babies EAR, people just make me so mad,they run a groom service and think there a vet, i would take him in and threaten the groomer with a law suit if they do not pay the vet bill.

OMG! So sorry that happen to you... And quite frankly I would have demanded my money back, considering that is not how you brought ur pup to her... She is totally liable for her error and should have to pay for it...

But more importantly, at least ur pup is okay and there was no serious harm done. I wanted to let you know that I found a great cutting set for dogs. I found it at Target for $25 bucks. Andie's Hair Clippers for dogs - came complete with how to DVD, scissors, clippers w/ changable gaurds. It was soooo easy to cut Meka and I'd recommend it to anyone needing to cut their pup... I'm literally getting in my car now to go get a "how to..." book and a clipper set! Thanks for the heads-up about Target, I most likely would have dropped a BOMB on clippers online without you! :rolleyes:



Update: Beau is totally acting like himself and doesn't seem to notice that part of his ear is gone! He is playing like usual and he doesn't flinch when I touch it!

Oh, My. I am so sorry. I would be contacting anyone you can so she is shut down. I would also go after her for money. The BBB will not do a thing unless she is a member with them. I would call and see. I would also get him to the vet ASAP. You do not need infection and more happening to his ear. It seems like everyone on here has given you good advice, and I would listen to it.

She put an antibiotic on his ear, (she said that the vet sold it too her for this reason?) but we will be going to the vet tomorrow!

Maybe the Vet can stitch the ear together. I'm truly sorry for you boy. He must be so traumatized.
A groomer does not need a license which I think is very wrong. They need to be licensed and bonded with proof of liability insurance. I'm glad you have decided to groom your boy from now on. Many years ago I kept hearing and seeing some terrible things about some groomers and decided it wasn't worth the risk, so I do it myself.

I just did Milo again today.

Sometimes I do better than others, but then I read another one of these stories and know that I will never drop him at a groomers.

He's better off with one of my hack jobs and not a hacked off job I pay for.

Besides, it's hair, and just like us, a bad haircut only lasts about a week.;)

ohhh poor Beau, I'm so sorry.
I hope his ear will be something that will get better....
I won't pay her if I were you, IMO.
If I go to haircut at the salon for myself and someone snip my ear, they better not expect me to pay but pray that I won't sue or report them!!!

I feel horrible and so sorry about your bad experience, I saw the peoples court the other day and it was an eepisode just like yours...Guess What? The plaintiff won the case because a judge wont stand for such cruelty...She might have no licence an not accreditations...Take her 2 small claims court:mad: :mad: :mad: make an issue out of so it won't happen to someone's dog

Oh no, poor Beau! I cannot believe she expected you to pay her after cutting his ear. That is just ridiculous, I would definitely take him to the vet and then contact her to let her know that she is fully responsible for the bill. Hope Beau's ear heals up well..

SO sorry for what your baby went through, how HORRIBLE. I would call that groomer and let her know you will report her to the Better Business Bureau, the Humane Ass'n and any "Groomer" Ass'n you can find!

I have never taken my dogs to a groomer and I even groom the puppies I have sold for free. If the puppies live to far away I suggest they learn how to groom them and will even give lessons. ;)

Dogs just don't understand going to the groomers and the stress is sometimes hard on them. I agree with the ones that say get clippers and try it yourself. It really is easy.

Your poor baby! :eek: This is exactly why I decided to groom Zoe myself. Not to say there are not some very good groomers out there - I'm sure there are, I'm just not gonna take the chance with Zoe. It really doesn't take me that long to groom her myself. You can do it - you certainly can't do worse and with a little practice, I'm sure you'll do much better.

OMG How horrible, poor beau:( i would deff take him to your vet and make her pay, big time, she should NOT be in the grooming practice at all:mad: Sending hugs to you both.

That's horrible! I'd take him to the vet to get checked and give her the bill. How could she charge you when she cut off a piece of his ear. I would have been so apologetic, and done anything I could have to make up for the accident. Horrible.

This is terrible, I can't believe she was so careless that she cut a piece of his hear off. I would be :mad: . Also, I think it's totally wrong to put dogs in cages together, that's a recipe for disaster. I'm sorry this happened to your baby, hopefully everything will be okay. I wouldn't take her word on the anti-biotic ointment from the vet, this could be more serious than a nick or scratch and who knows if the ointment actually came from a vet. Hope you check with the BBB and other organizations as mentioned in other post, she needs to be closed down.

Poor Beau....I glad to hear is is acting normal...but that still doesn't erase the fact that his ear is damaged.....

I agree w/ Yorkiekids., I would go to the vets and then make a trip to her home and get reimbursed for it....and try and say it nicely but firmly ( at first)...;)

That is horrible! I recently had a bad experience at the groomers and decided that I am going to groom Diddy myself from now on. I cannot believe how many people have had horrible things happen at the groomers. It is really disturbing!

Thank you everyone for the great comments and support!! We went to the vet this morning and he said that the stuff she put on his ear was holding up good and that the two snipped apart pieces were starting to form a scab that is going to hold them together, it is also showing signs that the two pieces will heal together!!! YAY! :D

Beau is completely traumatized!! :mad: I went to go put his sweater on this morning so he wasn't too cold when we left (it was barely 40 degrees F) and when I touched his paw to put it through the arm hold, he yipped. I looked at it and it looked like there was a too short nail! I've decided not to get my money back because if I went there, I wouldn't be able to be nice and I would probably hurt her, resulting in me in jail...which I don't need right now. :p I have just called all of my friends that used to go to her and I told her. Also, my vet said that he was going to start telling his clients what happened to Beau to warn them about this groomer.

I did end up going to target yesterday and getting a clippers, a mustache trimmer, baby shampoo, a nail clipper and file, and some other things. Where do you set your babies when you groom them? Did you build something, buy something, or just put them on the kitchen table? I don't want to buy a $1000 grooming stand, and I think he would freak out if I put him on it (he would remember all the bad things). What else would you suggest I get him for grooming? I want to have all the bases cover so I don't do anything wrong. He's been hurt enough already!! Does anyone have a book that has step by step instuctions, or maybe a place I could get a good DVD from? I'm only 18, so I'm hoping to get good at this now and maybe do it as a side job being that there aren't many good, safe groomers around here!? :rolleyes: Any tips will be COMPLETELY welcome!! I attached a picture of Beau playing last night with his toy. If you look right between his eyes you can see his new bald spot...you can't really see the damage done to his ear (it is the left one from your view). You can only see that it is all big towards the bottom then all of a sudden a piece is missing!

WOW that is scary and im soooooo sorry for what happened to you guys, esp your poor baby!!! I honestly don't get how you can accidently cut an ear.. I really don't... I know accidents happen... but yeah I do Princess's grooming and I'm not saying I'm perfect.. I have cut a little too short sometimes but never made her bleed once..

I'm glad you are going to do the grooming yourself... it's not that hard to do..good luck!! :)

The more I read on here the more I know I will NEVER take my baby to a groomer. I use to groom years ago and I will do what grooming she needs. I feel so sorry for your little one. If I were you I would be taking my baby to the vet asap and a groomer would be paying the bill.

This is so horrible. I am so sorry to hear about your poor baby.

I had a bad experiance up here with my groomer so I have been grooming my baby myself also. Anchorage does not have a target yet so I was wondering if anyone could go and get one of those wonderful grooming kits and send it up to me. I would pay for it ofcoarse plus shipping. I would be much appresiative of it. I have just been using normal scissors and dog toenail clippers which has been working great. I would just like to learn more. Thanks

I have read horror stories about groomers, and this is another one, the more i read them, the more i know, mine will never go there, unless i can stay there, and watch!

This is just terrible, poor baby, i really hope this incident hasnt "scared" him for life.
