| New Baby and Jayci I have a new grandson, my first. His name is Anthony and he is 3 weeks old. I have not posted on this board in a long time and I am glad to be back. My Yorkie, Jayci is almost two yrs old. This little guy does not have a mean bone in his body. He is such a sweetheart and wants to make friends w/everyone. Well, when the baby comes to visit Jayci gets very excited and wants to sniff and smell. This is fine. I dont have any experience though w/ a Yorkie and a baby. Anthony mostly sleeps during his visits so when he makes a noise or moves Jayci jumps right up from where ever he is and is on alert. His ears move and he goes over to the baby and starts smelling around. I dont know if he realizes that this is another human or if he thinks it is another animal or a toy. Jayci has never shown agression towards the baby but he seems very faciniated when the baby moves or makes any kind of noise. Jayci spends alot of time smelling the new baby. Also, if I am holding Anthony Jayci tries to get as close to me as possible. If I am sitting on the sofa, Jayci is right behind me on top of the sofa watching me and the baby. If the baby is sleeping and does not move or make noise for awhile Jayci will lay on top of the sofa and wait for the baby to wake up. He then jumps up and tries to smell the baby again. I guess what I am asking is-can anyone give me some advice on babies and Yorkies? Jayci tries to steal the baby's blankets and chew on them. Should we give him a blanket that the baby used and let him have it as his own to get used to the smell? I would like to know about other's experience with Yorkies and new babies in the home. And the baby does not live with us so this is not something I can introduce to him on an every hour basis. The baby is here almost everyday and I just think my Jayci does not know what to make of him. Thank you in advance for any help and stories of babies and Yorkies.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | 22 years ago when I had my dtr, I had Zorro the sweetest Yorkie. When I first came home from the hospital he was mad at me and wouldn't come by me. Then the next day I was sitting on the couch and my dtr had a knit cap on because she was a preemie and zorro went right up to her and snatched it right off her head. After that he would dit right next to her and watch over her and never tried to bite or even climb on her.

| Anthony is a premie too, born a month too early and was in the Nic U for a week and is on a heart and breathing monitor for the next three months. Jaycie just loves to get in his carseat when the baby is not in it and goes crazy smelling every corner of it. He also tries to lick the baby's head. I stopped him from doing this. I am just not sure what he thinks of the new baby.
