| Hi Everyone. Just wanted to post and let you all know that we picked up our little girl today. She is even more beautiful then her pictures showed. WHAT A BABY DOLL!! She has the smallest baby doll face I've ever seen. She is 13 weeks and weighs 1.9 pounds. I am a little concerned over this. The rescue I got her from was very caring but I had not realized that since August she had lost almost 1/2 a pound. I only found out after I looked over her papers when we got home. In Aug. she weighed 2 lbs. and she now weighs 1.9. I called the rescue tonight and was told that she did lose some weight right before her spay and had run a small temp and this is why she's on clavomox. She did test positive for Giardia and is on a med for that as well so I'm hoping it's just that that cause the weight loss. They free fed her dry food (Nutro for sensative tummies) but no wet food and I think this may be part of it. She's really tiny and she seems to have trouble with the dry so I started her tonight on the boiled chicken / brown rice and carrots. Just the chicken tonight though until she's used to it. She gobbled it right up. She's real calm, seems healthy otherwise and she loves the girls already. I'll post pictures as soon as I get a chance. Pls. keep her in your prayers that she's healthy and just needs some TLC. The rescue she was in was NOT a Yorkie rescue and the smallest dog with her was 30 lbs. BUT they really loved her. The director who had her had tears in her eyes today when I took her. I'm so grateful to them and to God for giving us this little one. I truly believe in miracles and I think he knew with us losing Newman one month ago yesterday and now my mom dying that we really needed this little one Elaine` |

| I agree with you, Elaine that she needs wet food not just dry. 12 weeks is very young, and Sophie was 14 weeks at time of adoption. The breeder did not want her on dry only, and I kept her on wet food for about a month, and then gave wet with kibble to graze. Good luck.

| PS If someone doesn't know the Yorkie breed, their feeding methods are very different. So glad you have a new baby, and know her other health problem will vanish with meds.

| I don't want to hijack Elaine's thread, but as you know Yorkies have sensetive stomachs, and Yorkie's cannot be feed large sized kibble made for bigger breeds or table scraps that are greasy. Elaine will fatten up her new puppy and all will be well. Hope that clarifies my comment.

| Oh Elaine!!! I just was wondering about you and now I found this thread! I am overjoyed that you have brought this little girl home and cannot wait to see pictures!!! How lucky is she to come to such a loving Mama!!!! How is she doing on the chicken/veggie/rice diet? If you have any doubts, there are so many knowledgeable members on YT than can help you. Perhaps you should check over in the health/diet section. I saw a very interesting thread a few days ago, started by Wylie's Mom; she has had a consultation with a nutritionist and I think the info she posted is very important for small babies such as yours. There is even some mention on the positives/negatives of feeding chicken. See it here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93814 In any event, when you can, please post pics of your sweet girl. Did I say how happy, happy I am for you?? ![]() You will see, when the stress of caring for your Mom sometimes becomes overwhelming, how soothing being around this little Yorkie pup will be.Prayers going out for your new baby, and your Mommy, Lauren |
