Warning, watch out for your babies I got sad news today.. I have an aunt in Florida who has a best friend that owns a tiny Yorkie. She was always talking about this little Yorkie (how smart he was, how small, how cute, etc...), which is why I originally became interested in getting a Yorkie when my Chihuahua died, before then, I knew nothing about the breed. My aunts friend own a travel agency and therefore travels extensively and takes her dog with her everywhere, including to work everyday. There is a small park across the street from her agency and her habit was to eat lunch in the park, feed and walk the dog there. The day before yesterday she was sitting on a bench in that park when a car pulls up in front of the bench, a man gets out of the passenger side and starts walking towards her. He didn't look suspious so she didn't really think anything about it except that maybe he was lost and wanted directions. He calmly walked up to her and snatched the dog from her lap, runs back into the car and they drove away. She started screaming "my dog, my dog" but in her shock she didn't get the license plate and couldn't give a description of the car. Needless to say, this woman is beside herself with grief.. This dog was her child. She blames herself for not being quick enough, calm enough, to get the license plate and she has visions of all kinds of horrors being inflicted on her baby. I cried when I heard this story. Aparently, Yorkies are one of the top breeds singled out by thieves because of their popularity. We need to be very careful and very aware of our surroundings when we are out walking our babies. I know I would be heartbroken if this ever happened to me. |
thats a sad story :( |
Sooooo strange that you would post this. The other day I was standing in front of my building with Chewy waiting for my family and two guys were staring at the dog and whispering to each other and then tried starting up meek conversation with me. I was nervous and actually scared they would snatch him when my son and husband walked out to meet me and the guys both walked away. I feel so bad for your friend. This is unimaginable to me. |
Oh my goodness...That is horrible...This is why I do not like taking Sammi outside...I usually play in the backyard with her... I am so sorry for your aunts friend :( XoXoXo Fran and Sammi |
OMGosh, that is awful. This poor woman, my heart goes out to her. Was her baby by chance micro chipped. If so maybe she can let them know what happened and if her baby is taken to any vet they will have the #. |
there are some sick evil people here....what has this world come to  that is sucha sad story, i could just imagine how scared that baby is  |
This story has just made me very sick :( it is awful! It's like having your child abducted, with absoluetly no hope of ever seeing them again :( It's terrible, I would be devastated. |
That is just a nightmare for your Aunts friend and that poor baby - People are getting bolder and bolder - they are also stealing them from yards etc....following people home if they see them out with a yorkie - or other popular breed - the signs of the times is nothing is safe ANYWHERE anymore and a simple walk to the park is now a reason to be paraniod.... That is truly awful what happened - I think I would go down fighting - I know these people are pro's and she probably didn't even get a chance to think - but man...that is VERY SCARY to hear. What an awful thing for her to go thru - she'll never feel safe again and her poor baby is who knows where probably scared to death. Some humans just really SUCK. |

It only costs about $30 - 40 to get them microchipped. I was surprised it wasn't more. My vet assistant told me of her mother's yorkie who had recently been micro-chipped, disappeared out of her front yard one day. A few days later they saw her at the grocery store with a woman. The woman said she had bought the dog as a puppy. They followed her home and called animal control who verified that it was her mother's dog. What Luck! |
That is a big fear of mine. It has been mentioned to me so many times "you better watch out someone will steal her" When people see how friendly and well behaved Mya is. I over heard a couple in a store talking about "distracting her while I grab the dog" I have had a woman in the mall say that some people she knows have thier eye on Mya. I don't know what is worse because I have heard of homes being broke in to to steal a dog. It always seems to be a small breed. I can't believe that man was so bold as to take the dog right off her lap. How horrible the entire experience must be. Perhaps it could aired on "crime stoppers"? It might not make the new but a letter to an editor might get some attention. When I as growing up the truth came out about my girlfriend's little chihuahua that it was stolen from a restaurant owner who used to let the dog wonder around the restaurant. The dog was very, very, well taken care off but I can imagine the owner and the patrons missed the dog dearly. I reported this to my parents and since years had passed the restaurant had closed down. There might be some kind of hope that she gets the dog back. If it was microchipped she may get it back. I heard of a story of a woman getting her dog back even after four years. I will pray that some how she does get the dog returned. The man may of snatched the dog as a gift and the person getting it might not know it was stolen. Perhaps signs put up will help. |
What a sad world we live in I just dont understand why people do these things. I am so protective of my daughter and my dogs. My daughter is not allowed in the backyard without me or her dad with her. I dont even let my dogs out in the backyard with out someone with them. This is just so sad, and disturbing. What has our world come to?????? I dont know what I would do if this ever happened to me. My prayers are with her and her baby |
This sounds like a horror story!!! Poor baby and poor lady!!! :( |
Good gracious!!!! That is horrible! I am very sorry to hear that! |
Wow. That is awful! We've had a couple Yorkies stolen in my neighborhood. People just resell them in the paper or wherever to make a few hundred dollars. Was it here on YT that I was reading a story about a woman who got coffee every morning and left her dog in the car while she ran in. The car got broken into one morning (in a matter of seconds) by someone who obviously knew this woman's schedule. |
