I think if someone insulted my girls like that, I'd just turn to my dog and say "excuse their stupidity" and just walk away. I don't get it with Bella since her body is all yorkie but her coloring is totally pomeranian. My lab Bridget, on the other hand, is a foxred yellow lab. She's beautiful but I get asked all the time what sort of dog she is. And some don't believe me since she's not the light cream color most labs are. |

I think Yorkies are adorable no matter what their size. I was expecting a 7 lb. yorkie when I got Daisy and I got a nice surprise when she got 13 lbs. I kept wondering when she was going to stop growing. LOL As long as you love your baby and your babies size, I wouldn't pay any attention to people who are comparing their dog's size with yours. I feel sorry for their dogs if they are placing the value or love of the dog on it's size. It looks to me like they are carrying a dog as an accessory and not a loved pet. That's just my opinion for what it's worth. |
My Chewy is 18 lbs, and her sister is 11! I love them dearly....they have always been on the big side. They are purebred, my friend is the one who bred them. I always get remarks...esp. about Chewy! I just say "shhh, she's on a diet" and laugh it off. Actually Chewy is about 2 lbs overwt, but who can say no to such a cutie. Now that it's finally getting cooler around here (Cali) we can start walking more. ;) |
Breed Standard I'm a breeder and have had puppies from the same litter that ended up being between 3.5 and 12lbs at full maturity. According to AKC breed standard a Yorkie is to weigh no more than 7 lbs. I have actually taken offense to some of the statements made on this site about how much better larger yorkies are, as though if they are within breed standard that they are substandard. My largest yorkie was 6lbs and I have to take offense to those who say that smaller yorkies are "sickly." Everyone is entitiled to their own opinion about yorkies. We all know that we see our yorkies as our children, and when someone says something that we don't like about our children, we take offense. What was said to you should not have been said, but at the same time, anyone who states that a yorkie over 7lbs is large, is correct according to the breed standard. Please, respect each other, even those who believe that smaller yorkies are more true to the breed. |
