| My puppies ears are droopy. I have had baby Chanel for a few weeks now. When I got her from the breeder she had her ears taped.I removed it after a few days and her ears where straight up.She is 15 weeks now and since yesterday her ears are completely droopy.I tried taping them again but she is too hyper and scratched at it all day. After about two hours of watching her tug and scratch I removed it.I didnt want to torture my poor baby anymore.I have seen yorkies with droopy ears and they look cute. But I really like to see her cute ears up .Especially when shes playing and theyre moving in all directions.I read that they can droop when theyre teething ,have an infection or ear mites.I checked her ears and they dont smell at all ,also I dont see her scratching them. How do I know if theyre droopy because shes teething? How long does the teething last? |

| I recently read in my Yorkie book that is by AKC that ears can fall when they are teething. Once teething eases back up the ears will stand back up. It did not say how long it lasts. Hope this helps. Last edited by Winstin07; 09-08-2007 at 10:03 PM. |

| Ear infections do not have to smell. If there is extra gunk in ears that can be infection. That just happened with my sisters dog. There was no smell just this brownish-reddish stuff in one ear. it is a yeast infection from the heat. Just some more info, that may help. Jen |

| It's true - when Yorkies are teething, their ears will go up and down. I believe it's because there is reduced calcium in the cartilage that holds the ears up. When we got Coby, both ears were up on their own. A week or so later, one went down. When it went back up, the other went down. Before long they were both up. Very few Yorkies' ears don't go up on their own (and those that don't are just as cute in a different way). We had the taping instructions all printed out but never needed them. I'm betting they'll go up just fine. You can also trim or shave the hair on the ears to make them less heavy and able to stand up more easily. If you search for Yorkies+ears here on YT, I'm sure you can find the instructions for trimming. I think I just saw a thread on it a day or two ago.

| My Buddy has always had these huge ears that stood staright up (that I love) ...he will be 1 year old in a couple of months and his ears just started to droop. Even though his ears are starting to droop he still looks so cute but I am trying to decide if I want to try to make them stand up. Does anyone know if 10 months is kinda old for ears starting to droop? Good luck with Chanel's ears!!!! She is sooooooo cute!!!

| Does anyone know if the ears depend on the dog? My yorkie has floppy ears. Always has (he's about 6 months old now) but all the other yorkie's I see, their ears stand up... Will his goes up? Or do some yorkie's just have floppy ears always? |

| Zoey's went up and down several times. Sometimes one up then the other. Sometimes both down. At 6 months they are finally both up and staying. We never taped. I believe it was teething. We just tried to keep the hair on the top third trimmed. Good luck.

| Mindy's ears are totally floppy right now and hers were perked right up until last week. I'm sure it's teething because her mouth is looking pretty empty of teeth. I'll post how long they are down for. Would be nice to know.
