| Stinky Pita I thought the title might get your attention. Pita is my dog's name. She is almost 3 years old. Lately when I give her a bath, a couple of days later she's really stinky. She doesn't go outside much, only to lay on the porch and she uses peepee pads in the house. Do you think something could be internally goin on with her? I haven't changed shampoo or anything. It used to be I could go a week between baths now it's like every 3 or 4 days and she never used to stink. Any ideas?

| Ears! Sniff her ears. I bet that is where the stinky is. Ear infections can be a common thing with some dogs. Whether the smell is coming from her ears or elsewhere, she should be checked by the vet. Keep us posted. |

| No it's not her ears, it's her fur or her skin, she smells like a dirty dog... and she can't be that dirty! I haven't been bathing her every 3 or 4 days although she could use it, she hates baths so I'm still bathing her once a week. I just put up with the stink in between, it's not a horrible skunk stink so I can deal with it.

| No, she's not getting into anything. I wonder if I should switch shampoo, what do you all use? I've been using a 4 in 1 emu oil based shampoo.

| I'd try a different shampoo, because someone posted the EMU can have a bad smell to it.

| My Lexi has a similar issue...I think its just the way their skin smells. Like the oils maybe? I did try changing shampoo/conditioner to something that has a lil more scent. and it has helped! I would add at the end some suave coconut conditioner and its amazing how great she smells now, and how super soft her hair is! I also dont bathe her as often. every 2 weeks.

| Does her hair also look greasy and/or does she have flakes on her skin? Could be seborrhea. In seborrhea, excessive sebum is produced and appears as dry, light-colored flakes in the hair coat or as greasy, waxy scales on the skin and hair. Because sebum is a fatty material, it becomes rancid and causes a strong coat odor. From http://www.bobmckee.com/Client%20Inf...Seborrhea.html
