| Getting a female pup? HI, YT! We are currently considering on getting a female pup during the holidays this year....We already have a 1 year old beautiful male and he seems to be fine without a female....I have a couple of question- What do you guys think? When he goes around my sister girl dog he plays with her, but wants to hump at times...Do you think it would be the same if he has a companion living with him? Would she let him know that she says yes when ready for any intimacy? Do you guys think it's much easier? This is totally off the ? but what do you guys do when your yorkie begs for you to chase them with their ball? We chase him but he wants to keep going for long periods of time.....Is it wrong to take a break? I hope none of these ?'s are confusing.... |

| Well, another puppy would be good for him but it is going to be very hard to find a reputable breeder that will sell you a puppy during the holidays. |

| I'm a bit confused...are you planning on breeding? You are getting this female to satisfy your male's 'humping needs.' Sorry, I am just having a bit of trouble understanding...? |

| Not to satisfy his needs persay, in a few years we may breed them but as far as right now just a companion. Will his humping progress or simmer down considering there is a female dog that he's with all day every day. I dunno just questions that I thought of and figured many of you out there have multiples and may know more than what I know. |

| He may be happy until she comes into heat, and then it's going to be on. If you don't want to breed for a few years you'll have your hands full keeping them apart.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | NOPE! They will likely go bonkers trying to mate if left un-fixed.

| I think it's safe to say that they way to stop a male who is already interested in humping would NOT be by bringing an intact female into the house. Just seems like an all around bad idea that would welcome an "accident." I do understand you wanting to get him a companion, I just think this would be a HUGE risk... You think you have problems on your hands, now...it would be mild in comparison. |

| humping My male yorkie ONLY humps my females when they are in heat, not all the time, and if you wanted to breed in the future, a belly band would help until your female would be ready.

| If you want a companion for him, you may want to just get another male for right now....as far as breeding him, you may want to possibly offer him for stud service...just my thoughts but hey...I'm a newbie and still learning. I have a 1 1/2 yr old female and wanted another but got another female because I allow my dogs to roam freely often & don't want the trouble of keeping a male away from her. So I now have Diva & Foxxy! Yolanda Yorkie Mom to: Diva and Foxxy Last edited by LuvmyYorkies2; 09-05-2007 at 11:04 AM. Reason: fixing attachments |

| puppy You have been given good advise...unfortunely he will start marking everything and generally drive you and the female nuts with his behavior. You should take a poll of all the YT who have unneutered males and females as companions and who finds it an ideal situation to live with...not me! I had an in house kennel..built a completely separate area for my males to live..that way they could pee in their own beds, toys, water/food dishes, on each other and not upset the girls. |

Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | Trust me they are very sneaky!! Daisy is in heat right now and Peeka is going nuts i have them seperated at all times and when Peeka is out i watch him closely(Daisy is in a play pen) Well today the bugger went into stealth mode and jumped into the playpen i did not hear him the only reason i noticed he got in there was because Daisy was kicking his butt and growling at him. They did not tie or anything but i will tell you i am so upset that it even happened i have been very careful! Peeka has tried to hump Daisy from day one it NEVER STOPS!! Don't be fooled if you think he will only do it when she is in heat. Please think it through if you are looking for a companion dog get another male or a spayed female or you will run into this situation.
