Talk About Rude HI All, So today I went to a BBQ at my sisters, she has a yorkie and a maltese, she just got her baby boy yorkie a moth ago, so any way we are in the yard playing with the furkids, nice fenced in yard and all, here comes her neighbor and yells over the fence to me, hey how much for that little rat:mad: I said to my sis what the hell did she just say, mad now:mad: I said are you speaking to me? she says yes, I want one of those dogs like your thats still small and rat looking, is she full grown? I said no she is almost 6mths and a yorkie, she said , ya i know what it is, your sister has the same kind but much bigger:mad: I said excuse me , I have to go check the grill, now my sister thinks i was rude not to give her any info.... WHAT ARE YOU KIDDING ME:mad: sorry so long i needed to vent. thanks for listening. |
I don't blame you, I would have excused myself also. People can be quite rude, even though she didn't think she was being offensive. |
You should have told her she doesn't deserve a yorkie if she thinks it looks like a rat. |
That sucks and is very rude. I've had ppl call mine rats too but ppl i know, it's so annoying  |
What makes people think that dogs look like rats? Rats have beady little eyes, a long nose with whiskers that stick out, round ears, short legs, a long fat body, and a long tail that has no hair on it. Next time you should say, "Wow - if you can't tell the difference between a dog and a rat, A. you might need glasses, or B. you're not ready for a pet." |
Ewwww I dont blame you at all for being mad! What a rude ^&*() She does not deserve a Yorkie and I hope she does not get one. |

i don't blame you at all. It reminds me about time me and my mom were shopping at kohl's. My mom had her yorkie, penelope in her bag and she was laying there being very well behaved. My mom sets the carrier on the counter as I was paying. The cashier looked at the bag a few times. Then she looked again, did this fake scream and said OMG I thought that you had a rat in that bag. It was so clear she was just trying to be rude. |
Goodness, why are people so rude? I can't imagine speaking to someone like that... |
That was just plain and simple rudeness at its worse!!!!:thumbdown She got more out of you than you needed to say!!!! A dirty look might have been more appropriate. |
Iam not a rude person at all and I dont want my sis mad at me , But she could of used another way to approch me to ask questions, molly is small and is cut short right now, so my sis said thats why she called her a rat:mad: im still upset about this and i know i shoudnt be, my sis said i was the rude one for walking away, now I feel bad:( should I:confused: thanks for the shoulders:) :) |
I would just shrug it off... |
i dont want this to come out wrong but why do people get so offended by the rat comment? my dad teases me about it all the time and it doesnt hurt my feelings. most people say that as a joke and dont mean for you to take it seriously..lighten up a little... if she was mean and nasty about the whole conversation thats one thing but to get offened by a commend joke isnt..i think its rude when people with yorkies think they are better and snub people for asking questions or trying to start a conversation with them. That person may have been generally interested in the breed, and you could have made a furture yorkie friend by educating her on the breed. jmo:rolleyes: |
You make a good point tammy, maybe i over reacted, now i feel guilty and will call my sister and apolizie for my rudeness, and wish her neighbor luck in finding her little rat. |
im not trying to make you feel bad, i would just say hi next time you see the neighbor and ask if she had found a yorkie yet and maybe a nice conversation would start...dont stess yourself..ive been none to offend people..my husband says im very anti-social,...i have never been big on meeting people so things dont always come out right..im usually very nervous when i meet someone, so i tease or joke and sometimes its not a good ice breaker..maybe she was the same way chin up no worries everyone will get over it =) |
Little wet rats I must admit I call mine little wet rats after a bath!! |
me too and i call them little brats sometimes =) |
Here's a thought....refer her to someone who really DOES sell rats or mice or gerbils. :D :D Okay...I'm bad. I would have been offended also, so I understand. |
My point is....I can call them anything I want, but for a stranger to approach me that way....oh no. That's just wrong. |
I don't take it personally when someone says it cause the people that have said it i know and know they are joking, sometimes it is annoying though. However if someone i didnt know said it and they weren't laughing, like they said it rudely then i would be offended, it's all in the way they say it. |
I call Mr. Biggs a rat all the time too, but if someone else were to come up to me and say "how much did that rat cost you?" That would royally piss me off. It's not like you go up to a persons child and say "why'd you have that thing". That sounded like a negative comment towards your dog and I don't blame you for taking it that way and getting upset. |
It is still rude of her to call your little one "a rat". I would have walked off too. Good for you.only so much one can take sometimes. |
I say it to my baby after a bath. but im joking. i agree its annoying when other people keep constantly saying it. and i know their not joking. i think i would have excused myself from the neighbor too. |
Someone said "oh I see you got a hamster" when Zoey was a baby. I guess that is a little better than rat. |
There is a huge difference between me calling my yorkie rat or someone I know Jokingly calling my dog a rat and a stranger calling my dog a rat (unless you can just really tell they are joking). Was the neighbor joking? From your post I took it as she was kindof saying it in a derogatory way. Those of you with real children - wouldn't you think someone was rude if they came up and called your kid a brat or a rat? Same thing with our dogs - it's rude to walk up to a stranger and call their dog a rat. They don't even look like rats!! Who came up with that anyway?? |
hmmm ... i am the same as some pple on here ... its oky if I say/call kikko a rat (i prefer the word monster.. haha .. IMO he could never look like a rat) or someone i alreayd know and know that they meant it in a joking manner... but if a stranger said that, i would be peeved... prolly ask them politely and in a joke/cute way (buuut isn't it like 90% of a joke is the truth .. some number iunno) to not refer them to a rat and proceed with the conversation. however, if your sister's neighbor wants one, why would she refer to something that she wants a rat? so i don't think she meant any harm. but you prolly got mad b/c i'm sure its not the first time that's happened to you and it was an automatic response .. b/c we've all encountered those pple who really DO mean it when calling our babies 'rats'... so its understandable you know? so don't worry about it. :) |
That was extremely rude of the neighbor! That's like calling someone's skin kid a name. Not good! :thumbdown I don't think you were being rude at all. |
If she wants rat she should get a rat...not a dog! What a *****! You had every right to be rude to her. |
I still secretly hold a grudge against my neighbor for saying I look like I am walking a "rat on a leash" when I take Lola for a walk. |
Were you tempted to cook her on the grill? |
