| We started before he could jump up on his own. We put a treat at each step and used a LOT of praise. Going down was a little tricker, but the same principal worked. When he tried or seemed to want to jump off in the middle, we held the treat and he only got it if he went ALL the way down the stairs. The next day we had to do it again once and he's had it down ever since. Hope that helps.

I now plan on the getting the wood ones that also serve as storage. The only thing I would caution you about with the plastic ones is, they are perfectly fine for the furbabies, but they are not meant to serve as a footstool for us humans. It put like a stress fracture on the top step. We really do have to tell people to not put their feet on them.

| I did the same thing - removed the bedframe to lower the bed...I have 3 steps at the sofa and two steps at the bed. When I told my sister what I did with the bed, she called me crazy....My little guy does have the kneecap problems. The steps not only help the problem now but they help prevent future joint problems or broken legs. We have a queen size bed and my husband and I both end up on the very edges...Squeaky only weighs 6 pounds but he sure can take up a good part of our bed! I wouldn't change things for nothing! |

| Brandi is not a jumper.......so when I started letting her sleep in my bed I knew I'd need the doggy steps.....cause if she had to "go" she'd need a way to get off the bed.....now she will only use the steps......and I don't have to worry about her breaking a leg.......and the box came in handy too LOL Brandi used to like to try to eat wires....so I did a McIver and turned the steps box into a guard around my computer wires LOL |

| I have both the 4 steps for my sofa and bed.....although now that my lil is growing up, she doesn't seem to feel she needs to use them anymore...but as a concerned mom..I still want her to use them in order to avoid any problems further down the road as she gets older

| I was given one of those chairs. The person had made another set of holes so the chair did not sit completely upright. The dogs LOVE it for a bed. I am planning on getting more for them to use. One bad thing is that the cover does not come off for washing. I just shake it out every so often. |

| I have a trunk that sits at the foot of my bed, I put a rug that has a rubber back on top of it so they don't slide.

| I have both the Walgreens pet stairs I got for $10 bucks, and a home made pair. My home made are more sturdy. They go to the bed. I covered them with carpet. The Walgreens pet stairs, I use by my recliner, and it's just high enough for them to get to my recliner. They are sturdy enough for a yorkie...but don't try stepping on them! I love the idea of the washable cover on it though. |
