Very Concerned.. Waiting on vet to open... please HELP I was scared to post this... but i really need help until i can get to the vet to see what she thinks. its 7 am and they don't open til around 9. Yesterday I noticed a white spot where cody has no hair there... i read on the search that they lose puppy hair. when i brush him i get a little hair but not much. and he sheds a little on my clothes. but nothing major. should i be concerned?? i cant get any good pics of it right now. could it be he is just losing the puppy hair and new hair will come through???  |
He could be getting new hair in, or he might have fleas. Did you look for them? It could be a couple of things, but nothing that I know of would be serious, so cuddle him a lot and go to the vet. He'll be fine. |
thanks for replying so fast!!! ive checked for fleas and have seen none. i use advantage and we've never had problems. ill sit and pray time flies :) i hope it turns out to be nothing serious. |
Well I'm getting dressed and fixing to go take Cody to the vet to see what she can tell me about this... and then i have bills to pay ... ugh. so as soon as i get back i'll post and let ya know what i found out. keep us in your prayers that it is a positive reply |
spot It is where he had his rabies shot..? |
Keep us posted! Good luck at the vet. It is always so hard waiting! :( Be sure to post an update so we know Cody is ok. |
Where is the spot? Zoey got a bare spot on her head where I had been pulling her hair up, and she would try to knock it down. |
it's on his left side |
I just got a pic im gonna upload it... give me few mins |
1 Attachment(s) Ok here is a picture of it. |
Our dog got a bald spot (twice) after being vaccinated. I think it was an allergic reaction, but the hair grew back. I'm anxious to hear what the vet says. |
he had his rabies shot when i got him.... and then he had his bordatella and parvo his 3rd and last set at my vet... maybe its a reaction from that but he had his shots a month or so ago.. would he just now be getting a reaction from it? i would think it would have shown up before now the vet doesnt get in til about 9:30 or 10 so ill find out in just a few more mins. its 9 here now.. im gonna run to the bank so i can get a money order to pay rent. and then swing by the vets |
It could be a bug bite or bee sting. Some dogs are very sensitive... I've heard of tic bites they loose hair.. Even if she was on a med for that it may have tried to bite????????? I've seen dogs that have throid problems having spots of hair missing or it falls out easily.. When females are under stress from whelping sometimes will blow their coats.. Dog's poorly nurished under these conditions will also blow coats.. |
Not sure what it could be? Hope everything is ok i will be watching to see what it is. Good luck |
ok i just got home... sorry for the long wait they were real busy in the vets today. alot of new puppies getting health certs and all. so they did a skin scraping and she didnt see any mange or fleas or nothing so she is sending off a culture she thinks its fungus. but not a ringworm type. so i'll know in 10 days. the vet put him on antibiotic cephalexin 3 times a day. the damage for todays visit.... $66.00 the office visit recheck..... $17.00 (normally its 25.00 office visit) skin scraping.....$10.00 culture(fungal)........$20.00 cephalexin drops 250mg/5ml...........$19.00 |

It's good you went. With the antiboitic I am sure it will clear up in no time. Let us know what the culture reveals when you get the results. Now you can relax alittle. |
daisy, my chihuhua, did that a few months ago. It turned out to be allergies. The vet narrowed it down the the puppy pads. There was something in them that she was allergic to. they put her on 2 diff meds and we removed the puppy pads and now you cant even tell that she was loosing all her hair. |
Well hopefully everything is fine. Glad to hear it is nothing major. and it really wasn't to expensive to bring him in. |
Sounds like getting charged for taking the lug-nuts off the tire rim and then charged for changing the tire. Well anyway, I hope it isn't serious. It never ceases to amaze me how quick some Vets. are at giving medication "before" they even know the problem. I do hope everything turns out good. |
Glad to see it was nothing more serious...hope our baby is better very soon...:p |
thanks everyone!! i will post back as soon as i hear something.. i should hear around the 9th of Sept. i'll be waiting anxiously until then! Yeah the vet bill wasn't too bad.. i was freakin out when they said scraping and sending off. i just figured in the couple hundred dollar range. but it was only 66.00.. i didnt have the whole amount. im on disability and after paying bills im broke. so i put 10 down and i owe 56. so im just glad my vet let me makes arrangements. |

how is Cody feeling???? |
Glad she's going to be ok. Atleast you know the worse thing can be you'll have to use medicine, and try to figure out is she's allergic, what it is that is causing the allergy. |

And your love for your baby........PRICELESS |
hmm have you looked at your dog food ing. i know betty will loose her hair if she sneeks some of my moms dogs food .. she cant handle soy or corn akkk and she will sneak some of my soy latte too |
he has been itching but not at that spot.... i think ive narrowed it down to two possibilities.. he recently chewed 3 corners of the wall in my apartment.... and i just switched conditioners. so im gonna go to the vet and get the shampoo with oatmeal. i ll ask her as soon as the culture comes back whats causing it and see what she says.. but those are my two diagnosis. he is feeling good. running and playing. normal behaviour. the antibiotic makes him sleepy. |
