Reporting A Bad Breeder / Seller... NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!!! A breeder/seller sold me a yorkie little girl with a life threatening birth defect. After numerous treatments for infections and surgeries I had no choice but to put her to sleep this past August 23, 07. I have asked for my money back instead of a replacement puppy since this breeder has a bad reputation from what I have read in this message board and others. I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau, I have an attorney that I might use if forced. This matter could be resolved by returning the money I paid for her $1700.00. This money will be used to purchase a yorkie from a reputable breeder. This money is not including medical treatments, medicines and surgery. I also plan to contact the US Department of Agriculture, since they gave me a health certificate that my puppy was free of genetic and birth defects. I want suggestions as to other agencies or officials that I might report this breeder to, please let me know. I really appreciate it. In Memory of little yorkie girl, "NIKKI". They are located in Miami, Florida and their name is Seaside Yorkies. Check out their website www.SeasideYorkies.com. Please stay away and any suggestions on reporting them is appreciated. (IF you feel more comfortable a private message is fine) Ines Menendez |
I don't know what to tell you, but I am so sorry for your loss. I checked out the web site, and - wow. They SOUND so reputable! Makes me wonder if you can trust any breeder! |
I know it wont bring your baby back, but maybe you could take her to small claims court or judge Judy or something, then you wont have to pay for a lawyer, and maybe even get some of your vet bills reimbursed also. |
Oh, honey I am so sorry for your loss & for all you have been through! I pray you get a healthy puppy to love & care for. Be vigilant at reporting a breeder who is dishonest. There was a girl on here at the beginning of the month with a similar story about a puppy she got from a bad breeder in Texas. I am pasting in the link she had about her experience, because she documented all the steps she was taking against this breeder on this thread. I hope if you read this you can have some more ideas of where to turn to & stop a bad breeder. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ight=jeff+dane |

i am so sorry. that is horrible. i hope everything works out for you. |
:( Iam so sorry for the loss of your pup, I sure hope something can be done, this is terrible, You deserve your money back:mad: |
I am soo sorry that you are having to go through this, its a shame! I think AKC has a list of breeders that you should not use, correct me if I am wrong! |
pup Florida has some very strict dog laws to protect the buyer, so check them out. Also, many counties restrict the number of dogs allowed in a residental area and one breeder told me there is a stiff fine if you have a breeding business in your home. |
I thought that site sounded familiar their was a thread on that breeder here, http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...hlight=seaside |
I'm not sure if this will give any info that might be useful http://www.animallaw.info/articles/ovuspetsales.htm I'm so sorry this happened to you, the laws really need to be changed regarding the welfare of our pets and how their bred....Good luck.... |
If she was AKC registered report it to them too. |
Thank you for your heartfelt sympathies I looked into the Florida Agricultural Animal Laws and plan to take action against them if my money is not returned. Yes, that is the breeder/ seller I had the problem with. I've told them that I want a refund so that I can purchase another puppy, I do not trust them. My family and I can not go through the pain of losing our little baby. She weighed 3 1\2 lbs at the time of her death. Literally you could see and feel her skeleton. She was the sweetest dog, even when she was going everyday for 2 weeks to the doctor for aerosol and an occasional shot she would get excited about going out. My 13 year old son says to me, "Mom she was here for a reason, she taught us not to give up". I have been told by breeders that she should have died with that condition and that their vet should have picked it up. IN MEMORY OF OUR LITTLE NIKKI WE WILL MISS HER |
I am soooo sorry about your loss...You're doing the best thing you can by warning other potential buyers. What was wrong with her? Poor little girl...Rest in Peace... |
I am so sorry for you I have have been ripped off of by Liz .This breeder Liz James of 203 Foxy Lane Anacoco La 71403 www.petsonsale.com/members/rusty203 has stolen my money. I was to be getting a 4 month old Yorkshire female pup of the named Fairly Dust. Then she changed the name to Moon Beam Girl and said she was 8-9 months old. I paid for shipping to Kalamazoo Michigan it was in all the e-mails and on the papers I sent with the money orders I sent her for the pup, then she said she would not send her to Kalamazoo because she would have to drive to far to a difference airport. She ask if I wanted my money back and I said yes. Then she said she spent my money paying for other dogs she bought from Germany. I just received an e-mail from a lady that has bought Moon bean Girl from Liz and she turned out to be 1 yr old and has health problems and she did not get the dogs papers and Liz called her Bubbles so this dog has been called 3 or 4 difference names by Liz. What she is doing is called Bate & switch. She is just pumping out puppies she has them on puppyfind.com Please help stop people like this. Does anyone have any idea's ?? |
I am so sorry that you have had to go thru this..but if it were me I would take her to court and ask for everything I spent from her cost, vet bills and punitive damages for emotional distress!!! Do you have a local tv station or reporter in your area that does human interest stories etc?? This definetly should be exposed!!! We have a reporter here in Ga that helps consumers who have been ripped off by businesses etc hopefully you have one in your area!!! I wish you the best of luck but I would be a real pit bull (excuse the pun) on this one!!!! |

I am very sorry for your loss:( . Quote:
What is SO reputable? It is a typical example when bad breeder try to scam naive customers. A few things why she is NOT reputable after looking her website: - SHIPPING. reputable breeders don't ship puppies on regular basic. period. She has a regulated system seems like.... - she lie about standard, tea-cup, whatever (Standard ranges from 7 to 9 - bulls**t) - her guarantee is not clear.... The breeder is not responsible for any vet bills or any other bill regarding this pup nor is seller responsible for damages, physical or emotional to the buyer's self or possessions and likewise to other individuals. red flag # 1 - I guess she breeds maltese too, or her partners.... Actually, she did a good job for NAIVE customers. Her web has a lot of good informations, but everything is basic information. Not much about HER responsibilities....Too much words how good she is with not saying important details... IMXO. |
NIKII..She had a short soft palate defect.. Because of this she had constant infections. Most of the food she ate went to her nose and created infections. She had trouble eating and drinking and would also seem to have a problem breathing when she got excited. She would gasp for air. The vet didn't diagnose her and she was on antibiotics, aerosol etc. for five months. He thought she just had kennel cough, pneumonia, you name it. It wasn't until I took her to a veterinary specialist that she had an endoscopy that we found out about her uncurable condition. He did an experimental surgery using tissue from her mouth to lenghthen the soft palate but it didn't take. He called us after we took her for the two week follow up and told us the bad news that there was nothing else that could be done for her. That the quality of her life would not be good, she would continue to get sicker. She couldn't remain on antibiotics for life, she was down to 3 1\2 lbs. Her bones could be felt when I held her. I couldn't have her continue suffering that way. We had no choice but to put her to sleep. It was a very tough decision and sometimes we second guess it. But it would have been selfish for us to have her with us keeping her in the sickly condition she was in. She will always be in our heart. |

Every pup I looked at on this site was CKC registered...NOT AKC..how can she charge so much for pups that are not reconized by the american kennel club??? Plus there is no such thing as a teacup yorkie. The cert should tell you what they do guarantee and what they have checked them for. Most, breeders will not ship their babies. This makes me so mad. I love my babies so much I can not imagine anyone doing this to some one else. You get so attached to them so quickly because they are so wonderful. I agree that you need to file in court for all of you expenses. I am truly sorry for all that you are going through. I will keep you in my prayers. Good luck, Laura, Max :animal-pa , Lucy :animal-pa & babies:animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa |

exactly !!! I noticed that too, just have forgotten to mention that... on top of that, when breeder asks amount of money like that, potential customers should know the breed standard at least. All yorkies come in different colors/shapes. I mean there are a good quality yorkies (good body proportion, right silky coat accodring to standard, etc) and POOR quality yorkie. They both CUTE, but not same quality and CANNOT be charged SAME, if even they are cute. A lot of cute puppies in a shelters dying every day. So customers should be smart:) . If they pay amount of money over $1000, they should get a good quality yorkie (pet class). Not yorkie over 7 pounds with fluffy coats with pappilon's ears:D (although they cute) or micro/tiny/whatever with hair that don't grow up....(they also cute) IMXO. |
Also, I always very suspicious re web sites like this because all puppies are represented as in window display, but you cannot see their parents at all. Just wondering how they look like. I bet, not same....:( Be careful when you check out similar webs. They made for a special reason - to impress customers (cute babies in cup/toy car, accessories). That's human psychology: " look how cute they are, I want it...." I communicated with very reputable breeders from YTCA and no one of them don't have web site like that. because they are not in business for profit... |
I'm so sorry for your loss. :( |
A good breeder is not in it to make money but, to better the breed and because they truly love these little babies. My Lucy just had pups over the weekend and all I was worried about was making sure she would be alright and now I am not thinking of making a giant profit. Also, when I bought her the breeder I got her from made me sign a contract that if for any reason I can never care for her that she is to be returned to her and that I will send her pictures of Lucy as she ages. I have sent her pics of the babies as well. This is what I consider a good breeder. She cares what happens to her pups even after they leave her care. |
correct - a good breeder do cares about pups. if a breeder ships puppies "wordwide" :thumbdown . be careful with breeders who ship puppies easily...Personally, I wouldn't run from them... A good breeder is not in it to make money but, to better the breed and because they truly love these little babies. IMXO, it is NOT responsible to have MORE dogs in this word. I respect only those breeders who try to improve breed because they love yorkie and care about them, who have a wishlist before they have a babies and carefully check future homes, who sell pet quality pippies with a spay/neutered contract... |
Seaside Yorkies in Miami Florida.. YOUR RIGHT ABOUT BAD BREEDERS.. Now they are trying to get out of giving me a refund by asking for paperwork that I already provided, death info and saying that they question wether my Nikki really had a congenital birth defect. I was just asking for the refund since I got another little girl from a reputable breeder. But I am thinking of taking them to court on ALL of the expenses that we paid from 12/06 to 8/23/07 date of her death and emotional distress. they seem to be willing to give me a replacement puppy without all the hardball playing but when it comes to money they are trying to make it difficult. That is alright. I don't work, have a friend who is an attorney and will go all the way. I just wanted to put it all behind me and start trying to ease the pain with a new puppy. Check out the website: www.seasideyorkies.com. Could you get another puppy if you were going to be scared thinking is this puppy going to get sick? We can't. Hope it makes sense. I am also planning on starting a website to tell our story about them, got to get the story out. Take care. Ines |
It is good idea about court. I saw on TV Judi (?), the owner received back all expenses, except what she asked for emotional distress. It didn't work out. Only bills ;) Anyway, good luck -) |
