| Tink caught a frog! I thought it was a toad at first, but no - it was a little frog! She had a toad the other day that she was flipping around. I got it from her and put it in the neighbors yard so she couldn't get it. We were just now out for her evening relief trip and she kept sniffing and sniffing. Then she got crazy and was chasing something all over the entire 3 square feet of year that we have at the apartment. I pulled on her leash and she came over to me and when I looked down, there was a little bity frog in her mouth. She WOULD NOT give it to me or put it down. She kept going to the door and pawing at it to go inside but I couldn't let her take the frog in. So, we stayed and stayed and finally I tried to get her to open her mouth so I could get the frog, and.....oops, she chomped it. IT WAS AN ACCIDENT and it was all MY FAULT! Not Tink's fault. I should have known that trying to manipulate her mouth that way would be disastrous for the little frog. She dropped it right away and poked at it with her paw several times and then she looked up at me as if to say, "Mommy, what did you do to my frog?!" So I picked it up in a tissue and put it in the bag with Tink's waste. Ewwww! Now Tink is upset with me and keeps wanting to go out to the sidewalk where the frog was. We've gone out 4 times now and she still keeps looking for it. Sigh! I would ignore her but she keeps barking 'til I put her harness on and we go out. This is getting tiresome. I keep telling her it is "all gone" but she's not getting it. Poor Tink. Poor frog. Bad mommy. |

| Ooohh Tink! That is a GREAT mission you just did for the DFC! Frogs are pretty squirmy and dirty, and then you chomped him too since your mommy tried to take him away from you? I bet you had frog guts in your mouth! Great job! Did she brush your teeth after? Oh well, maybe you can catch another frog tomorrow!

| Tink wanted a real frog to go with her stuffed frog that she loves so much!!! Winston had a baby bird awhile back...the big birds, mommy and/or daddy were actually dive bombing him. Luckily he learned the words "leave it" a long time ago, and bless his heart listened and he did...hubby picked it up and put it on the other side of the fence where mommy and daddy were very pleased to find him unharmed...and off they all went together again. But don't feel bad, you and Tink didn't mean to hurt it...sorry...

| Well, I think I should have just left well enough alone. She probably wouldn't have hurt it but I had to stick my nose in there! She found the toad again tonight and just hopped around the yard chasing it. She didn't try to get it with her mouth - wonder why. |

| Can't toads be poisonous to dogs? I would be careful letting her put them in her mouth. Lacy always attacks frogs too when we go outside. I try to watch out for them but it's really hard. Like tonight, there was a tiny little frog that she attacked. It hasn't happened this year but the past two summers her mouth foamed up if she attacked a frog. The first time it happened I called the Emergency Vet because I didn't know what was happening.

| omg one of my friends caught this little green leaper frog and put it in front of my little guy (who was like 3lbs at the time) and he saw it leap once and pounced on it and killed it in a split second! I was sooo upset!! My sweet little baby boy killed a frog! so now whenever he finds one I make sure I get it away from him as quick as possible!

My rott is always killing my toads and I makes me so mad. The toads keeps bugs out of the garden. I like them. It could hurt a dog the size of these though. I would let her have them.

| We always have frogs around our house, and I'm forever catching them, and putting them in my neigbors yard, however they find their way back. Ugh!

Ahhh poor Tink and you! It was an accident and I probably would have done the same thing. I'm also working with Izzy on the "leave it" command and she is getting there but good to know that the phrase does come in handy!

| Learning to leave it is a good thing, maybe the best thing I ever taught him.

I have to tell you why we taught Winston at such an early age to leave it...His big brother Spencer, we loved him dearly...may he rest in peace, would go "hunting"...for anything that moved...or not...from crickets to baby bunnies, and when he caught something...there was NO getting it away from him, first he would run away with it, if we were lucky enough to catch up with him...which we seldom were...he would not give it up, he would bite at us...more then once actually breaking the skin...then he would eat whatever it was he hunted. This was an awful thing to experience, we had to witness baby bunnies being killed by our baby!!! So when Winston came along we vowed to teach him better then that...so yes he may still hunt for living creatures...but he will leave it and walk away from it. Thank God...
