| Immediate Help Needed!! Yorkie Puppy Really Sick =( We recently purchased a Yorkie puppy (three weeks ago) and after about 5 days with us he came down with a mild cough and we took him to the vet who said he had a very mild case of Kennel Cough and perscribed some Amoxicilin. After a week of the medicine we had realized that the cough was not really going away (however he was showing no other signs of illness at all) and so we took him to the vet again and the vet suggested that we give him a Tracheal Wash to see if he had some sort of virus. We agreed and took him to vet for the procedure. Immediately after the procedure the he became seriously ill and could not breath on his own. He was then transferred to emergency care where they diagnossed that he had Pneumonia. That was 4 days ago and now the emergency care staff has said we need to make "the decision" on what we are going to do since he is showing little improvement. Has anyone else experienced this? If so could it be something other than Pneumonia? I asked the people at the Emergency Center if the Tracheal Wash could have something to do with this completely immediate change in our dog but they don't really seem to think that is much of an option. To me (obviously not an expert) if a dog suddenly changes to the worse after a surgery the surgery would have had something to do with it. Any help would be great (as soon as possible) since we are really at the breaking point and don't want to lose our little pupp =( |

| He is 12 weeks old, and they said another one had a cough but it was caught pretty quick. Ever heard of a Trachea Wash causing troubles with a dog? |

Never heard of Trachea Wash causing trouble, unless some of it got into the lung. Did the breeder guarantee her pups?

| I am so sorry to hear your puppy is so sick. I have not dealt with Kennel Cough/trechia wash/phenomia so I dont have medical advice for you but I wanted to let you know I will keep your puppy in my thoughts and prayers. I hope someone on the forum will be able to offer you great advice. Sending hugs to you and your puppy, Jennette

| I heard that if you put a tube down the puppies throat you can cause damage to the Trachea, I am worried that it was damaged during the procedure and that is why he can't cough out the fluid that is trapped in his lungs...but the vet won't consider that..very frustrating The breeder guaranteed the pup, but we don't want a new one we want the one that is sick... |

| but all his other litter mates....are okay?..what has the breeder had to say about this..I know Maximus caught a cough from the vet I think but they said he was too little for this procedure and they thought he had a collapsed trachea but to be positively sure that it was "collapsed" they would have to put a tube down his throat and they said he was still way to little..he was about 2.8 lbs at the time...

| They said another one had a cough but they caught it quickly, which I would say we did too since two vets just said it was just a minor cough (think one cough per hour). Our dog was only 4lbs when they did the procedure, I hope that they didn't do something that they were not supposed to do. |

| Where are you located...?..my baby had a really bad hacking cough that started at night..he did get better with the antibiotic, cough suppressant and the penicillian shot the vet gave him. Did your vet give a penicillian shot before he sent him home with the meds?...because is there was an issue with the trachea from the get go..and the antibiotic shot wasn't given I heard a bad infection can occur...

| blykmyk44, I do not have any medical advice for you, other than get another opinion if possible. But, you, your family, and that helpless little puppy are in my prayers. It is really up to God. |
