I was reading my stages book from the AKC and it says that between 4-6 months many pups go through an anxiety stage and can also be more shy. It states to calmly explore anything new and also ease up if necessary. It also states not to punish or push if pup is reluctant. mine is just entering this age , so we shall see how it goes for Kirby. Best wishes
