Can they be too spoiled?
 

NOPE!! I get told/asked all the time, why are you buying all this stuff for them, they are just dogs. That irritate's the heck out of me :mad: . They are MY babies, and I can spoil them any way I want. I can buy them a million toys, and still buy more. I can have 50 outfits and still get more. I don't have any children, and these are my kids!!!! Does anyone else get asked this, or told?

Yea luckly my family has grown to understand. My parents at first were like, they are dogs. But once they met Meeka, my mom started calling meeka her grand-daughter. They get it now, so atleast I dont hear it from them, but other people will stay stuff. They dont get it....... Superstarkba, where did you come up with the name Aubrey???? That is my name! :D

my girls have more clothes then i do!!!! and i buy mine at garage sales!! they sleep with us,,, have a bed in every room in the house,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and nope you cant spoil them to much:)

Yes, im 45 and have no kids,these babies are my kids and members of my family think i go a little nuts about my babies,but i tell them you spoil your kids and that usually shuts them up. my fiancee spoils them also and never had a inside dog and my new rescue boy nickie he has surely spoiled,i love to see that baby bring out the love in him.

Are you serious??? I wanted an unusual name, and one day I some how came up with it!!! My mom had a guy in her high school named Aubrey Stringer, and he said that he was going to raise the titanic!! :eek: So we call my Aubrey, Aubrey Stringer sometimes...haha. Thats too cool.

Sounds like mine. I just bought them 5 new shirts, and I haven't gotten new clothes in a couple of months. My babies have 4 beds, and 5 inlcuding my bed in 1 room!!!!

Yea, It is techinally a boys name, but my parents liked it for a girl. So that is how I got the name! I dont hear it very often

My husband asks me all the time, "does Cody really need another toy"? Yup! especially when I'm getting them from the .88 cent bin at walmart. Cody doesn't like clothes, he has a little denim jacket and if i put it on him a crouches down like he's beaten lol!

when I tell ppl his name, they assume its a girl.. Then some ppl assume Dakota is a boy, so there names should be swopped ..lol.

Aubrey isn't a big fan of clothing, but LOVES new toys!

I still get this a lot from my friends and family. They are big dog lovers, but still think that I go overboard in what I buy them. I guess I can understand why they feel that way - I do! lol

I bought them a 250 stroller because it matched my car and they "needed the best". Have they ever used it? Nope!:)hehe

I used to think that until I saw the consequences of "babying" my dog. Now I believe you can "spoil" them too much, and by turning them into our "human babies," we cause the dogs to become unbalanced. There is nothing wrong with recognizing them as dogs rather than humans. We can still have a loving and strong relationship with them, and they can still be members of our family.

As time passes I realize I have not spoiled them enough.....so we keep looking for ways to spoile them MORE!!!!!!!:p

To me Yes, they are just dogs, but they are my dogs! therefore I can do what i want with them. I feel the same about all you They are YOUR dogs, you treat them. Yo as you want with them as longs as its not abuse its all good to me! I never fight the phrase just dogs because thas what they are, but that doesnt stop them from also being my friends or my 2 boys or just great companions.


I say if you have the disposables income to spoil them do it! I think its wrong when they are spoiled to the point where they think they are boss like the dogs on the dog whisperer. I don't think its wrong to spoil them with love and affection and toys. There are so many "Just a Dogs" that don't get the love that you all at YT give. They are not lucky enough to have someone who cares enough to think about them when they are out shopping.

I think for people who are just passing through your dogs life, its no big deal when the complain about you spoiling your "JUST a Dog." THey are not going to be around anyway so who cares about their opinions. But for those who see your babies on a day to day basis or regularly dressing them and spoiling them gives your dog so much character and adds a positive spark to every life they touch.

You cannot give a dog too much love and gifts.. because there are so many in this world who don't have anyone who cares that much.

If you are talking about whether or not we can give our dogs too many toys (like spoiling kids with too many toys), perhaps the answer is "no." I do know that if a dog has too many toy choices at one time, he gets confused. But you don't have to give your dog all his toys at once. But the dogs on The Dog Whisperer who have "issues" (because of their owners' behavior) behave this way because the humans have treated their dogs with human psychology rather than dog psychology. I never believe our pets our "just a dog" or "just a cat." When our dog died last month, I felt like I lost a human member of my family.

I do believe my dogs are just dogs, but just because my definition is different from the philosophies here doesn't meant that I care or love them any less. That doesn't mean that when they are ill that I care for them less than anyone here cause I am more open minded on what I label them. I was up all night with Ryoko because he at Kaze's food and then got into the food container as well. I rubbed his tummy all night and made sure I was up to take him out at 2 am when he finally had to poop. Just because he is a dog to me doesn't i wouldn't cry if he passed away or be heart broken. I don't get offended when people call them Just dogs because thas what they are Dogs, canines. They are what they are but no matter what they are to us doesn't change the love we give to them. if you can afford it spoil them! encourage your friends to adopt if they want and find a dog to neuter and spoil as well.

I agree, watch how you spoil them so that it doesn't affect their behavior.

I don't think I've ever had anyone actually say anything to me about all the stuff I buy for Max. Most of the people who know me know how I am about my animals, so I think they think it's just sort of amusing. None of my friends have small dogs, so it's kind of a novelty to them and I think they aren't quite sure what to make of it, LOL. And my family knows better than to make any judgment when it comes to me and the animals.....I didn't travel or go anywhere overnight for over 10 years when I first got my parrots b/c it was too much hassle to take them or find a petsitter who was familiar with birds. I think they're just happy that I come to see them and are glad that I've got a portable companion:D .

They can never have too many toys, for sure! Max gets so excited when I tell him I got him a new toy and he learns it's name almost immediately (how do they DO that?). Dh never says anything about buying new toys and I try not to go overboard buying clothes (meaning, I try to space it out a little).

I do think that my dh and I HAVE spoiled Max in another way though, and I'm going to take steps to remedy that situation. He needs to learn not to act like an attack dog when strangers come over....he was nipping at the new petsitter's heels yesterday:( ...(he's not staying with her though) and I finally had to put him in the bedroom and close the door.

Don't you just love it when you have them dressed cute and you feel so proud of how they look, then you run into someone who's rolling their eyes?:D

I do understand they are dogs, but they are MY babies and I can buy them what I want and be a soft as I like with them. I spoil them with toys, treats, clothes, they sleep in my bed, I spend more money feeding them that I do myself and they are the most important things in my life. My number one peeve is people telling me that I spoil my babies too much. I honestly could not ask for better behaved dogs, they know all of their basic commands plus loads of tricks, have perfect recalls and are social butterflies so I must be doing something right :)

You bet he is! And he looks for a present of a new toy every time we come back from shopping! So funny. Now, we don't get him one EVERY time, but, let's put it this way......I have given/thrown away at least 5 shopping bags full of toys that weren't his favorites. He just LOVES his toys and only shares them with very special canine friends.

He sure doesn't share US, though. We are definitely "off limits" to other dogs and pets. And sometimes we are off limits to each other -- he has to make any affection with DH a group hug and get right in between us!

Haha, Aubrey doesn't like me and the bf close togethor, he will come and get in between us :rolleyes: , bf doesn't like it.

Family members shake their heads and give each other meaningful glances - but they know to keep their mouths shut. I waited a long time for Kalina and I'm spoiling her!! :)

I beleive spoiling them is just as bad as having the addiction for them:) The more you have the more you want, My furkids are indeed pampered, but so is my family;) My grandson is the joy of my life, my furbabies are my other joy;) some people dont understand it, I say soooooooo whatttttttt, If we spoil them:p :p

Thats right. You can do whatever you want, spend your money on anything!!!
