Look what my Furbaby just did!! Please Help!! 1 Attachment(s) Buddy found an ink cartridge for my color printer and before I realized it he had bitten through it ...he left the cartridge laying on my BRAND NEW sofa. The ink leaked and has ruined my sofa. I could just cry!!!! I have tried everything....nothing is taking the ink out. Any suggestions? I was just getting ready to look in the Yellow Pages to see if a professional cleaning service might could help me. Oh....Buddy is fine....he evidently did not of like the taste of the ink and left the cartridge laying. (he has no ink on him...thank goodness) Can anyone help? |
Oh no!I would take the cushion cover off and soak it in the sink with dishwashing liquid..ie dawn over night. Good luck! Also did he digest any of this ink? |
I am so sorry that happened, but if it's brand new, I would go with the professional service and not mess with it. You might set it in worse. So sorry. :( |
oh, thats enough to make your stomach hurt. Maybe call the place you got it and see if they can replace it if you can't get the ink out. I'd be googling the heck out of "how to get ink out of upholstry". |

You can try GOOF OFF for fabrics, but be careful as you may end up setting the stain with trying different chemicals. I dont know what else may work because my house is turning out to look like a dorm since my babies are "creative". good luck. |
I have a white sofa that my Lilly just loves and in her last heat she laid all over it! Well my cushions have zippers and I removed them and threw them in the washer with woolite and cold water, It came out so great, I did the whole couch. Hope yours has zippers too. an if you are afraid of washing it you could always bring it to the dry cleaners, maybe the will even take it if you can't remove the insides! Good Luck |
I can see it has a zipper ,whatever you do don't let it dry on there. |
did you get scotch guard protection on the couch when you bought it? If so they have a 5 year guarantee. If you had it put on at the furniture store, call them they could tell you how to contact the place to get it cleaned for free. If not, then if you can take the cover off take it to the cleaners, they may be able to get it off. I know they got a bad stain off my moms couch cushion. |
You might contact the store that you got it from, the fabric looks like maybe delicate. I have found Dawn dishwasing liquid to be amazing at removing almost anything. But be careful it is true that different chemicals can actually set the stain. :( |
"hair spray" will take ink out of material. It works great if you get ink on your shirt/dress. Spray the hair spray on, wait a couple of minutes then dab with cotton cloth.:animal-pa |
I was thinking of taking the cushion cover off and soaking it but I am afraid the stain will "run" and make it worse. I am soooo torn....all the professional services are currently closed. If I leave it alone the stain will really set in over night and if I soak it the stain might "run"!!!! Grrrrrr!!!! I don't know what to do!!! |
Just soak that corner in your sink. With dawn, works like magic! Cold water |
Okaaaaaaay....I removed the cover and I tied off the corner with a rubber band ......I have it soaking in cold water and Dawn. Ohhhhh.....I hope this works!!!! Thanks for all your suggestions!!! By the way, I tried many other techniques.....vinegar, alcohol, "As Seen on TV" ink remover, hair spray, baking soda, etc....its just such a bad stain that its gonna take a miracle!!! Again, thanks for all the suggestions!!! Wish me luck!!! |
hi i dont have any suggestions but i wanted to say that is was/is a really pretty sofa:D |
Oh YIPES:eek: I hope that comes out, that is a nice sofa! How's Buddy look?!? If it doesn't come out, maybe you could have new cushion covers made;) |
where did you get the sofa Please click one of the Quick Reply icons in the posts above to activate Quick Reply. |
Good Luck! How does it look so far. Quote:

you've had lots of good suggestions, but I'm wondering if you could check with the makers of the ink cartridges - maybe online. This can't be the 1st time someone had one leak - maybe there is something that the company knows will work on those kinds of ink. If you had it scotch-guarded or protected 1st I would think you have the warrenty for it to be repkaced. Did you get anything from the maker of the couch on how to remove stains from that type of fabric? If all else fails - it looks like this is an end cushion - switch your end cushions - turning the stained one upside down so it faces the bottom of the couch. After it dries of course! |
Edit: Yorkiesmiles is right, switch the cushions.......... |

I’ll go ahead and blame it on “old” age, just because I can….. |
Yike:eek: . First, I'm so glad Buddy is ok. As for stains, I have gotten pure paint tint (from work) out of some of my light colored clothes using Simple Green, Mean Green, dishsoap, comet, and some other stuff and elbow grease. But, I don't know if that would work on your couch cover. I had nothing to lose, so I just went to town with anything I could think of. With something as beautiful as your couch, I think I would check with a professional. Good luck. Or, just a thought, can you possibly just replace that one cushion at the place you got the couch? |
Ouch that's a bad place, and red too. I'll cross my fingers for you. A lot of people swear by Plain ol' Borax...I don't have a clue. |
I'd either call the store for advise, or call a professional. |
K - here is a suggestion if the stain does not come out....I'm a believer of calling customer service - call them where you got your sofa or I would call the manufacturer directly and explain....even if you had to pay something I wonder if they could just send you a new section cover for the one that's damaged with ink? Worth a try - EDIT: I fogot to tell you - I tried to clean a white section of my sofa myself once it got stained and it made it worse so I ended up having to get a new sofa - (mine didn't have zippers). :-( But it wasn't from Izzy - it was from someone spilling coctail sauce all over my white sofa. No more white for me! |
I Looks like it is already on the end where the stain past goes down, looka the the pic again. Maybe she already switched it ,I was thinkin how did it get on the bottom. Quote:

1 Attachment(s) Ok gals...it soaked all night and most of it came out. I am thinking I will continue to soak it today.....maybe the rest of the ink will come out. Its not completely out but at least it is better than it was!!!! If it doesn't come completely out...I am going to call the manufacturer. I had the sofa custom made so perhaps I can get the cover replaced. As some of you have suggested...I can always just turn the cushion over. But it would be nice to get the stain out. Thanks for all your suggestions!!! I will keep ya'll posted!!! |

I use Oxi Clean for things like this. I have never had it not get a stain out and I don't care how bad it is. Best of luck! |
