| Please Help I may be freaking out for nothing, but I was wondering if anyone can help me understand...Luigi vomited this morning for the first time ever. He woke up, went potty, and started heaving a little then vomited some frothy, white stuff (best way I can describe it is it looked like frothy spit). There was no food in the vomit, and it was a very small amount (like the size of a quarter coin or less). He's acting normal as always. I switched his food from Eukaneuba to Canidae the other day, and am gradually transitioning (he likes the Canidae more though ). His poop's been a little runny, sometimes very diarrhea-ish lately, but it keeps transitioning from runny to a little more formed (but still very, very soft). Just wondering if anyone had any advice for me? Thanks!

| Oh..and the other day he had blood (more than I've ever seen him have..i was shocked when I came home) in his diarrhea. But now it's pretty much gone and his stool's a little better. I can't think that it could be worms again, because I just got rid of his hookworms, and did a stool test just recently and he was clear of all parasites. I'm thinking it could just be his diet or something, but I don't know. I think I'll try the rice again tonight to harden the stool up. Any suggestions or ideas?

| sometimes if their tummies are empty they vomit a little. maybe you could try giving him a small meal when you wake up. |

| My vet said that when you switch foods it may cause some diarrhia....otherwise I'd think your fur-baby is ok if they're still running around and acting normally. Good luck!

| As far as I know this happens when dogs lick their bums to empty their anal sacs. Some breeds of dogs are too small for them to empty out with a natural bowel movement so the dog licks his bum to get rid of it as full anal sacs can be very uncomfortable. The reason they vomit is because of the nasty taste of the liquid. The vomit usually looks like egg whites. If your dog also scoots you may want to look into taking him to the vet to empty the anal sacs. Otherwise, just let nature take its course -- don't let it happen too often though as this liquid can cause chronic tracheitis and bronchitis.

| thanks so much for the responses everyone. i feel a little better and could the blood that occurred before just be caused by irritated bowels from the diarrhea or whatnot? i think i've heard before that that could cause the blood.

| I give rice and chicken also when their changing foods. I'd still call the vet just to let him know about the blood.
