Everything that I have read says that a 5 lb dog is supposed to eat about 205kcal of food per day, so Canidae says that one cup of their food equals 468kcal, then a 5lb grown dog should be eating just around 1/2 cup per day. More or less, depending on your dog's appetite, activity level, etc. Most dogs know how much they are supposed to eat and will not overeat, but there are always exceptions. I hope some of the members that do feed Canidae can share their experiences with that food and how much they feed their puppies/dogs. I'm not sure where the 1/5 of a cup thing is coming in?? |
I feed Canidae as well. My babies just love it! Tatum used to have dry skin when she was a puppy, but since switching over to this food, it is completely GONE. I give it two 's WAY up!! |

No, 1/5 is not enough... As I stated in my previous post, a 5lb dog should be eating roughly around 205kcal. Hope this helps! |

wow thanks.... You were right about the shipping costs, not bad at all, I believe its the lowest I've seen!! Thanks again!! |
I was paying $12 for Nutro. Now Im paying $8 and change for Canidae. Better dog food and cheaper! My dog had allergies really bad and the nutro wasn't helping. I've noticed a difference in her hair. It's softer and not so dry anymore. She's not scratching as much either. Go Canidae! I sent it for my free samples too...lol! |
I switched from Innova (sp?) to Canidae after reading on YT and Maxwell loves it. It would let the other sit for hours before eating. I feed him 1/3 cup in A.M. and 1/3 cup in evening; He's 7 months at 5 lb. 4 oz. |
Trying Canidae today! I've been feeding Izzie Royal Canin for the past 4 months. She seems to be getting tired of it and likes trying to eat the bigger dogs' food. Also, I've noticed that her eye goobers have been getting worse. Her skin also is pretty dry. I'm heading to the store today to buy my last bag of Royal Canin and a bag of Canidae. Hopefully, this will end my little picky eater's problems! :) |
Canidae Just an FYI, I switched mine to Canidae last month and Zoey's stool got softer and Boston has had runny stool as well. I took his stool in again today and he is clear of all bacteria and parasites and the vet believes it is from the Canidae..not that it's a bad food but just upsetting his stomach so I will not be using it anymore. I know a lot of people like it so I guess you have to just decide what you like best:) |
Thanks for the link! My little one is eating Royal Canin (breeder was feeding and thought I would stay the course) but after reading such rave reviews on here about Canidae and then reading this post I thought I would contact them to see if they would send on over samples to Bella too. Hope she has as much luck with it and the rest of your furbabies! Christina and :animal-pa Bella |
I feed all of mine Canidae canned and dry. They love it to the exclusion of all other brands. Recently, there was a shortage of Canidae and the mail order company I was getting mine on auto delivery just substituted something else (Natural Balance). They would not eat it and I could not find another supply for 10 days. I resorted to cooking chicken and brown rice for them and they were happy with that. Other than home cooking, Canidae is all they want. I am happy it is such a high quality food and one of the few that has not had a recall recently .... knock on wood! |
I'm thinking of switching Brody over to Canidae from Royal Canin Puppy. He'll be 7mos soon. Which flavor would be best for him? Do I need to specify a flavor when contacting them for a sample? Or can they send me a variety? Thanks! :) |
