I was robbed yesterday!!! Hi everyone, This post might be moved to off topics but it kind of involves Izzy. Yesterday after work I came home and noticed that my house had been broken into. Izzy was fine, they didnt take him. (whew) But they ransacked my house opening drawers, boxes and my jewelry box. It looked like they were looking for something but didnt find it. My clothes were all over the floor in my room. They went through my file cabinets and just made a complete mess. After all of the mess, they only took my digital camera!! What a bunch of idiots. I live in a 2 family flat, my landlord who is great lives upstairs. They broke into both of our places. The got in through the front window which was up. Usually I dont leave it up when Im gone but, since its been 90+ degrees here I left it up because I didnt want Izzy to pass out from heat exhaustion. (sp?) This week I had planned on going to lowes or home depot to pick up a window air conditioner and another fan. My fault for putting it off. :( I didnt think it was going to get this hot. Michigan weather is so iffy. Anyways, I just wanted to vent. Im okay, Im a little shaken up and creeped out because I feel violated...and what if they come back? Izzy is okay now. He was a little shaken up. He did pee on the floor in 3 spots and was shaking when I came home. I felt so bad. I stayed at a friends house last night. When we go to my friends house, he acted out a bit. I figured he was still nervous and shaken up, hopefully he will be better today. So now, Im going to consider moving when my lease is up. I tried to stick it out in the city but I cant do it anymore. It sucks because I really like the house and I love living in a city environment. |
Oh I am so sorry to hear this. Thank god all they took was your camera. Not that that is a good thing, but it could have been alot worse. I'm glad to hear everything is ok and no one got hurt. |
How scary! Poor Izzy! Must be traumatized! Hopefully things will get back to normal. |
 This is awful. Thank goodness Izzie is OK and you're safe. I can't imagine how frightened you both must be! If you have to stay until your lease is up, consider getting some of the snap on metal locks that go on the edges of your windows. They keep them from being able to be raised any higher than you open them. I did this when I was living in Atlanta because I enjoyed the fresh air, but didn't want anyone to be able to climb through. They're available at Lowes and Home Depot and I would imagine, at other hardware stores. Stay safe!! |
Sorry your home was vandalized but thank heavens Izzy is ok. Hope they catch the creeps who broke in. |
It is terrible, because I was robbed once and felt totally violated. I did land up moving, because I was scared to death. I'm glad your ok. |
I know exactly how you feel because I've been robbed, too. Thank God Izzy is OK. Please take all precautions with windows, locks, etc. Make sure your landlord changes the locks on your doors, too. I know they came in thru a window but there's something about a big new shiny deadbolt that makes you feel better. |
I am so sorry u were robbed and had all your personal items handled by some stranger. Thank goodness Izzy is safe! Poor baby. I read an article last week that stated home invasions and robberies are up from last years figures. More bank and store robberies too. Until u can move just remember to lock windows, keep blinds closed and work with your landlord to ensure your and Izzy's safety. |
OMG Karla - how scary!!!!!!i I'm sure glad that Izzy is okay and nothing tremendously valuable is gone. I'm sure you filed a police report, but to be on the safe side, change your locks immediately. And go get the window AC - they're not too expensive and it will be HOT for a while here. Let's make plans to get together soon..... |
How scary! I am SOO glad to hear your precious Izzy wasn't stolen or hurt. I would be shaking too. I'm so sorry this happened to you! |
Hope everything is ok now. What a bad experience. Thank God Izzy wasn't taken. |
wow Oh my gosh, I am so sorry. Thank the lord that they did not take Izzy. This is my nightmare. I have it all of the time...Someone breaks in and takes Zoey and sells her. Poor little baby must have been so scared. I'm so glad you and her are all right. |

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and concerns! I am going to get an air conditioner TODAY and my landlord is getting an alarm system put in on both units. We do have window locks. I use them all the time, except this time. Since it was so hot I had the window open wider than normal. I am glad Izzy is okay and was not taken. I do plan on moving though, even with the alarm I dont feel completely safe because they now know what I have in my house. |

Um, that is really scary. I would be getting out of there. |
HOW AWFUL! Thank goodness Izzy is okay. |

Oh, my goodness! What a thing to come home to! So glad Izzy is okay and that they didn't take anything more. I don't blame you for being scared to stay there. Take care! |
At the risk of having a double post, I am writing again. I don't know if my computer was acting up and my earlier post got lost, or if the monitors are holding up my post to review it because I'm new. If I were you, I'd have all the locked changed today. You don't know if they found spare keys and made impressions of them. You don't want them coming back for him. Also, I'd go over Izzy with a fine-tooth comb. Who knows what they might have done to him. I am so sorry you had to go through this. Sandy |
Shaken up or not ... you are so so lucky Izzy was still there. Good thing they true idiots. My brother had a break in once... they took a couple of his fancy knives he had displayed on the wall and his poker money and his 6 pack of beer out of the fridge. cops figured they were only after things for their drugy life. what has the world made of its self? |
How horrible!!! Have you figured out what they may have been looking for? They say a robery is usually done by someone you know and knows what you have of value. When your baby acted up at your friends, was it a fearful acting out? Maybe instead of moving, you can just put a camcorder in your house and turn it on when you leave. Also get an AC so you can keep the windows shut. There was a couple from LA that moved out of state to get away from anything happening to them and ended up being murdered in their own home by a son-in-law, so you just can't run away because there are no really safe places to hide. You just have to be prepared is all. Thankfully they didn't take your fur baby. (((hugs))) to you both. |

I am going to try doggie daycare for a couple days a week to get him out of the house. I would love to do everyday, but its really expensive. Hopefully it will ease his mind and mine too. |
I'm so sorry you were robbed - but glad they didn't take or hurt Izzy ...The same thing happened to my son and his neighbors found his 2 weiner dogs wandering around right near a busy street and lucky for them - took them in |

As far as Izzy's behavior, I couldnt tell if it was fearful or just him being his usual mischevious self. He peed on the floor at my friends house and on his comforter! After we took him outside. I had a puppy pad on the floor too. He was super hyper too, and he's usually pretty laid back. Thanks for the hugs...we need them!:) |

Omg  Thank God they didnt take your baby. I know how it is to be robbed. Only when I was robbed, it was in broad daylight, and these 3 guys came dressed in utility outfits like they were movers or something. They took all my jewelry, my hidden cache of money that they found in my drawer and some collector items. They found the key to my townhome because I noticed it was gone! I immediately got a locksmith that day and had the locks changed. The neighbor across from me, said she saw the three guys go into the townhome but didnt question it. Said she thought they were movers or something. Besides she said she doesnt get involved in those kind of things! Oh well, I have 3 locks on my door, an electric alarm and a alert system that goes directly to the Los Angeles Police Dept. I dont live in the best of neighborhoods but any neighborhood nowadays are targets for break-ins! Also, I have notices on my windows that show I am protected via Brinks alarm system. Im always on the lookout and dont trust anyone. They also robbed me of my highschool ring! I pray to God daily and I am vigilant! They must have been in my townhome before because I had some repairs done here. They must have taken my key and had a duplicate made. |
