Where do you leave your babies?
 

Okay...I found out that I will be having to make an unexpected trip out of the country probably in the next 2 months (grandmother is very sick and the prognosis is not great..so I have been warned)...what will I do with Maximus?..since my bf will have to go (out of respect) and well as my mother (only family I have here)..and his mother is a live in housekeeper at a very eccentric (CRAZY) woman's house..Maximus has nowhere to go....except a kennel???..the vet has boarding but before I even consider that..I was wondering about hiring a babysitter..to come to the house 3x's a day?..but that doesn't feel like enough attention for Maximus.. :(... I am really worried now..has anyone ever boarded?...do they play with them, allow them to go out to potty, walk them and spend time with the animals?..I am terrified..but I don't want to bring him to a Guatemala ...too many bugs everywhere that could be carrying disease, and I don't want him to get sick and there is nothing I can do :(.. I haven't been there since I am 7..any suggestions..I am in NY...any other NY'ers ever go away..and have a great place for the puppies?..I will go out of my way and I will pay more for his comfort!!!

Do you have a neighbor with maybe a teenage daughter. If so, she could come over to your house a few hours a day and play with him and possibly stay a few nights with him. The best thing is to try and find someone who will keep hime inside. Ask some of the local groomers and they may know of someone who has a Yorkie who wouldn't mind keeping him for you! Good Luck! I was really lucky to have found someone through my groomer who would keep mine with her little Yorkie. It was like vacation when Lil 'E' would go to her house because she spoiled him so much :) He was in heaven!!

This is a good idea. When I was younger (maybe 12?) a neighbor asked me to take care of her cat while she was away. we had no pets at the time, so this was a big deal to me. And since it was only a week or so - I didn't get bored of it. I thought I was so cool!

I have never left mine but my sister uses a company called animal aunts here in UK they work out a little more than kennels but they live in your home while you are away and look after all pets and plants etc.

What about your breeder? Would he/she take him? How long will you be gone? A hpuse sitter/pet sitter may be good especialy if he is young. You will want someone there at night and as much of the time as possible I would think.

If I was close to you, I would babysit. That would be so much fun, I think Maximus is the cutest!!!!!!!!!!!

If it was me I would find one here at YT to take care of my dogs - we all love yorkies and know what they need :)

The thing is I have very little children on the block..and my landlord would probabaly watch him..BUT..her children (the ones that ring my beel at 8:30 with half the neighborhood to see Maximus..are not evry gentle)..when I was paying rent the mother asked if she could hold Maximus and put him on her lap..the 4 year old tried to kick him to the ground..she wasn't even paying attention...I had to snatch him up....plus the 2 grooming experiences I had at 2 different places were BAD!!!....I am really torn right now...

We used a petsitter a couple of years ago. She came to the house 3 times a day and stayed there for approx 1hr each visit. She took Willy out when she got there & again before she left. We also have cats, so she also emptied litter boxes. She brushed & played with any of the animals who came out while she was there, fed them as per our instructions. And she even made sure the house was clean when we got home. She was a little ecentric, but had a real passion for the animals, everyone was happy & healthy when we got home

My friend, who is a huge animal lover, works at this place called petsuites. It may be expensive. I think it's sort of like a hotel for pets.

I don't know if there's any near you but you could check into it. Where do you live? There's got to be a YT member near you that would gladly look over Maximus. I would in a heartbeat! :p Why don't you post your city and see if any other members are nearby?

luzangela428, I am sorry about your Grandmother and having to leave under sad conditions.

I know how you feel anxious trying to find a devoted caregiver to Maximus, I've gone through the same situation.

Maybe a friend, your breeder, groomer if the services is offered, a boarding facility that can offer all the comforts of home with attention, etc. Atleast you have a couple months rather than days before you leave to take the time to research your best options for Maximus.

Hmmm....I'm not to happy with his breeder..due to the fact that she sent him home with medicine when I first got him..( I asked what it was and she said vitamins)..and then when I go to pick him up I ask why his belly feels "bloated"..she said oh..from his immunizations..sometime they give them "gas" and it will go down..well 1 night later I am at the emergency vet..and Maximus had to get his belly "decompressed"....because he had a huge amount of gas and it was pushing into his diaphram..and I bring all his paperwork..his "vitamins" etc...and they ask me exactly what it is since I have to syringe it to him.. (I come to find out it is an antibiotic for cocciddia..she said oh yeah a preventative..like vitamins for them..I know what I heard, and thats not what she said)..so after that incident I called her and she basically blew me off..and said that the vet didn't need to go to such drastic measures..blah blah...I was PISSED!!!!
Fran that is so generous of you..but I wouldnt want to inconvenience you (since I don't have a date yet..that sounds horrible..but I more or less was told she has about 2-3 months :( )...he can be a handful..lol..but when I know more definitely I just want to know I have someplace for Maximus and I don't have to settle for a kennel where he will be sad..we should get together anyways Fran since you are so close..1 Sat. or something... if he's not to much of a pain in the butt..and you were available I would pay you whatever you wanted to watch him for the couple of days..

My groomer has a petsitting place and thats where I would leave them.

You would NOT be inconveniencing us AT ALL!! You let me know...And handful? HA, Im sure nothing compared to lil miss devil pants! LOL! We should get together...I don’t drive but we take the train/bus NO PROBLEM!!

And as for payment. NO WAY!!! I will not take any kind of payment...

This is why I love Yorkie Talk!!

I want to pet sit for somebody!! That way I could proove to my boyfriend that I can handle 3 - LOL! If anyone in New England is going on vacation this summer and needs a petsitter - CALL ME!!!!

You guys are awesome! Right now, I don't have to worry about this b/c Sydney stays with her grandma when we go somewhere. However after we get married we are planning on moving to North Carolina (very far away from grandma :) ). I have been worried about what we will do then b/c I'm not willing to board her either. It's nice to know that I have a world-wide network of yorkie-loving friends out there. (even if we haven't ever met).

Sammi stays with my mom too, since we live there now...They ADORE her!

I am leaving for my first vacation "being single" on June 24...My best friend bought me a ticket to go to Puerto Rico with her (I LOVE HER TO DEATH!!!) and I return July 4th...So of course I know my mom and dad during that time will spoil the devil pants off her!! :)

It is nice to know that we can leave our babies with people we know...(even if we hadnt met them)

It's great isn't it!!!!!...Fran I drive..lol..everywhere I am a lazy pants..but I could drive to Brooklyn..and we could go to a park over there or take a train or bus to Manhattan..I feel bad Maximus doesn't get out that much during the day and he LOVES to be outside..lol...although I think Porky needs to lose some weight..because 2 minutes in the sun and he's a panting..lol

Oh thats funny!! He and Sammi must be related...Cause Sammi is PORKY too and 2 mins she is already up the stairs from the backyard to go in the air conditioning....Sammi is at 13lbs now, but the vet says she is ok for her frame...:) What can I say, she likes pasta on Sunday like her mom :) LOL

You guys are funny! After Syd's spaying, she wasn't suposed to be "active" until 10 days after her surgery. ;) So no walks...and she gained weight in 10 days. Luckily it came right back off once she was allowed to walk again. But I just bought a set of winter boots for her so that we can continue walking once it's winter. Otherwise I think she'll be a little porker! :eek:

Ha...Walk whats that?? Sammi hates to walk...She maybe walks 2 blocks then she claws my legs to death to be picked up...Imagine...13 lb yorkie in my arms...carrying dry cleaning...Hmmmm not a good thing :)

wow...really? It's funny how different they all are. Walking is one of Sydney's favorite things! A couple of weeks ago we went 12 blocks to the ice-cream stand, took a small ice-cream break, and then walked the 12 blocks back home. And that's a lot when you have REALLY short legs (Syd not me). :p

Maybe the hot pavement is hurting her little paws?

Sammi for starters has really long legs...7 inches!! So she should be able to walk a safari like a Yorkie Giraffe...But nooooo shes spoiled!!

And she will not walk in the winter, spring, summer or fall...Believe me I have tried and tops has been 2 blocks...

She is too funny!!

I am so sorry about your grandmother! If I lived in the city I would watch him for you on a moments notice too!

LOL...I think thats the problem..Maximus legs are so little that after a while he just wants to plop in the grass and pant..but God Forbid I try to get him in the house..lol..he dashes for water and then he wants out AGAIN..lol...he is only 4.5 lbs. NOW...but he is still growing..he is only 16 weeks..and supposedly he is only supposed to be about 5.5..HA!!!...Maximus will easily break that I believe..he loves food..and if he wants it I let him have it..he's just a baby..lol..but he is a porker

If you really needed someone to watch them on Sat...I would take them for you while you have to do what you gotta do..I'm in Staten Island

Hehe sammi... I'm running a 5k in central park next week and Annie has been training with me! She just loves it! When I pull her leash and harness out she goes crazy :D Although yesterday in the 90 degree heat she would have have nothing to do with it. She just plopped her tushy down to the ground :rolleyes: So we walked around the block and then dropped her back off in the air conditioning and went back without her ;)

I would say if there is a teen that is responsable that would be great... all through Jr High and HS I pet sat for a neighbor while they spent time in PS....it was great since I thought I were living independent (I stayed there when they were gone) it was like my own little house and I got paid to boot.....I took the doggie on walks and played with him like he was my own.....Granted it should be someone you know is responsible....maybe ask around for babysitters that also have some pet skills. I don't know too much about people to come in a few times a day...the neighbors did that a while back and the lady was theere just to put out new food and then left so that might not be a goood idea unless someon recomends one.
