| Welcome. I just rejoined after a hiatus for a while. We have a new 5 month old "boy", so we're still on potty training. But Coby is doing GREAT. My strategy is to make it as hard as possible to make a mistake. He's been confined to the kitchen to cut down on my stress with accidents as well as the "recurring" and cleaning problems if they pee on the carpet. Then we watched him like a hawk. Lots of praise for the successes and no punishment for the accidents (he actually had accidents in his kennel for the first several weeks until he could hold it long enough). Now, he's getting to branch out room by room. I keep a leash on him, so I don't lose sight of him. Now it's sort of like starting over because we walk back to the puppy pad or outside every 30 minutes or so to remind him that he has to take a longer walk and go somewhere else to pee. But it's paying off. Because he's a boy, I wanted to MAKE SURE that we didn't even start the marking problem with some accidents. So far so good. If he does go on the paper and no one sees him, he barks until someone gives him a treat. (Our Shi Tzu is 10 years old and still tells us he needs a treat for pottying in the right place. They know the score!!) Good luck and keep us informed. In case we have a set back, I may need more pointers myself!!
