i have to agree completely with chico the colors and the shapes dont match that of a yorkie pup ( i am not an expert though and hope im wrong) i know that its dissappointing to finally fine one that the husband will let you get and the thought that you might be duped and having to tell the husband about it can be bad. Ive actually been through that somewhat. my first question is did you seen any other breeds at the breeders house? did all the puppies look like that? reason i ask is if she has other breeds there and she isnt careful they can mate with the mother. also if two yorkies mate and say a beage also mates with that female she can have mixed and purebreds. if she asking a right hefty amount like in the 750 -1000++ i would deffinately look for another puppy. this day and age there are sooooo many ads out the with yorkies you should have no problem locating another. Good luck |

im sorry i went to look at his pics again and noticed that you mentioned there were no other pets besides the lab i wish i knew what to yell ya...but i know how i'd feel and if im putting a large sum of money on a puppy i want what i paid for. and if it were me and i bought the puppy, got him home and all i can think is, is he a yorkie then it might hender the relationship. because when i want a yorkie, thats what i want. i didnt want a mix, i didnt want a maltese i wanted a yorkie and i would feel unsastified. Other people maybe be happy with the puppt no matter what it turns out to be, but im not like that. especially if you have put years in too looking. again good luck |
Not to be nosy but, how much are you paying for him? He doesn't look like a pure bred yorkie to me, he is a cutie though! I would understand your husband getting upset for paying bookoos of money for a mix, when your suppose to be getting a Yorkie. GL with your decision. |
He almost looks like he could be a min pin cross to me? Good luck and if you love him, he is healthy, then get him. He is a DOLL! |
Ok, I am going to try and answer everyone's questions... ~the other puppies did have shorter faces, but he DOES look more like his mother. She has a more narrow, longer snout. The daddy has bigger ears, they stand but the breeder said it took some work, and they are pretty big. None the less, he is one of the cutest yorkies i have seen becasue I like teh bigger ears. ~As for his weight, I weighed him myself with our meat scale. It hovered around 1.4 to 1.5 so I went with the larger. He may look bigger becasue I am holding him, and I am the size of an average 12 year ld. LOL. I am 4'1 about 90lbs, so I make anything look bigger. ~My breeder is NOT out to make a buck, I think if something is wrong she doesn't know about it. She didn't even mean for her girl to get pregnant right now, she usually only has 1 litter and she likes to plan it out. She thought she was keeping them apart, but found her male and the female at night. She got them apart, but it took. She is a stay at home mom, and she has NO neighbors. Her dogs don't even go outside to pee becasue she lives in a heavily wooded area. They have pee pads inside. ~I saw him in person, and I didn't even think twice that he may not be purebred. But, the pictures are what's throwing me. ~As far as the price....I am paying $800 for him. Which is a fair price for around here. I am going to ask her to take more pictures, and I will ask about why he doesn't look exactly like most that I have seen. |
I am not sure on this one either, but this is a picture of a 6 week old Mini Pinscher. Good luck whatever your decision! I am sure your sweet baby will be a wonderful pet regardless of weather or not he is purebred. The only thing that would bother me would be the integrity of the situation, and that of the breeder. Just follow your heart, and go with what you feel is best for you. |
1 Attachment(s) oops here is the pic of the mini pin |
2 Attachment(s) It is so hard to tell at such a young age, But to me it looks like he may have a little Chi in him, But I really dont know. But as he gets older you will be able to tell more. But he is adorable. Below is a picture of my Mickey and Minnie at that age, as you can see they looked a lot different from each other, but now they look so much a like people can hardley tell them apart. |

A wonderful woman just pm'd me and said that her puppy was a little shorthaired at the beginning too, but now he is all yorkie. I looked a his pic- of 8 weeks, and I can definately see a big similarity in what my little guy looks like, especially if he gets a little hair in the next 2 weeks. I don't think he is a min pin because he is very tiny. He has the same colors on his face as his daddy, who is a dark dilverish color and it's darker around his nose. I have seen a few on this site like that as well. It looks like a dark grey color mixed with light silver all around his nose. I would think that is where my baby gets his dark coloring around his nose. **I have spoken to the breeder, and she assured me that if I needed she would have the pup DNA tested, and that there is 100% no chance any other dog could have gotten ahold of her female. She said that there are occasionally puppies who's hair grows slower that the rest, and he is the lucky one of this litter like that. I have said before the other puppies were already fluffier. If the mother is a redleg I guess that is why. I don't plan to breed him, and I don't care if his coat grows to the ground. As long as I am getting what I am paying for is what matters. I also assured her that if he still looks odd by the time I get him I certainly will take her up on the DNA testing. So, I guess we shall just have to see what develops. Either way, I love him. :p |

In the second picture of your pup the eyes reminded me of a Chihuahua, standing a little bit out of the scull. The Yorkie eyes usially fit better in the scull. The colors in him are not correct and most people who buy yorkies with a color fault get the puppy much cheeper. But this is a picture and you can not judge only by that. The only question is: Do you want a pet or show quality? Because this puppy will never be able to be in the showring but he can be a lovely pet! Also, do you want a dog that has the Yorkie look or would you be just as happy if the dog would be too big, if he starts to shed hair (which Yorkies donīt do) or not look like a Yorkie grown up? If this is ok for you and you are happy to pay this amount for him then you can just go for it and be happy with your little guy :D |

There's a possibility that you may not be getting the highest "quality" yorkie, but at least you're not paying top price. Like others have sd., his appearance at this age gives me a bit of pause too. I would just keep communicating with the breeder in a positive way, so that she doesn't get turned off by you, but is aware that it's a concern of yours. Let her know you love him and really want him, but when you're spending that much money, you also need to feel assured that you're getting what you're paying for. Jokingly blame it on the husband or something :p. What age are you supposed to bring him home at? Because his appearance is so non-standard, I'd personally want to at least ask if I could leave him with her as long as possible, and then maybe get my money back if he didn't start fluffing out a bit soon. I know this would be very hard for you, as in the meantime you're falling in love with him.....but maybe she would offer to come down on her price if he continues to look "different" than he should? Having said all that....when I got my Kiki, I also pd. $800, and also got a puppy that looked a little different from the rest of her litter. For awhile, people would ask me if she was a yorkie-poo...she had VERY fluffy hair, *except* on her face....while yorkie pups usually have the longer muzzle hair, hers was shorter, and very slow to grow in. I never minded people asking if she was a mix, because I knew that she wasn't, but that she did look like it! And guess what....she eventually grew out of it! Now she isn't the best example of a yorkie according to the "standard", but she looks just like many of the other light-haired, cotton-coated, floppy-earred cuties that we see on this site! :D Another thing possibly in your puppy's favor....I notice it looks like he has a bit of white on his chest? I've read that pups with that usually end up having nice silky hair. And while I've never seen one as "smooth" as he is, yes, I've read that often the silky hair takes the longest to grow in. So I think you're right to be concerned, and ask questions....and also that you're right to not completely discount him. I'd just continue to stay on top the situation like you are. Let us know how it turns out! |
Is there a such thing as a "short-haired" yorkie? If so, I would say maybe that's what he is? |
