| I am so proud of him I made sure Buddy was socialized from puppyhood but at one he became aggressive to larger dogs he did not know. I have been working with him for two years to correct this behavior. Buddy has many large dog friends he has known from puppyhood but won't give anyother's a chance. Until yesterday. Yipppppppppppee. A neighbor's yorkie passed away about 7mos ago from old age and she replaced him with this massive shepard/husky mix. He's huge and Buddy wants no part of him. I walk on the other side of the street and do what I can to distract him but he gets really crazed. Yesterday we were out for our walk and here comes Simba down the street being walked by someone I did not know. Buddy gets tense and I cross to the oppisite side of the street with him growling beneath his breath. I am pulling on his leash to control him all the time talking very gently to him about what a nice pup Simba is. All of a sudden this massive dog, the size of a pony, lays down in the street and wines for Buddy to play with him. I tell the walker Buddy is aggressive with Simba and continue walking. On the way back there's Simba again and again lays down and wines for him to come play with him. The man encourages me to bring Buddy over. Father of owner, I later found out. I am still talking gently to Buddy and I approach Simba, he stands and Buddy backed up and looked up at him very tense in his body form. Simba realizes this somehow and again lays down and wines for him to come to him. Buddy goes over and sniffs Simba and the rest was sheer delight. I could not believe my eyes! I felt like a weight had been released from my shoulder's. A break through for us. Buddy was giving this massive dog a chance to know him. The gentle giant made Buddy become passive, finally. Two years on contant correction finally is working for us. I am so happy. Buddy got vanilla ice cream for a treat last night for the first time. For those of you who also experience this problem don't give up. It took a long two years for this to happen. I only wish I had my camera with me. |

| What a cute story! And I can't even imagine going from a lil yorkie to a dog that huge - it must be like having Howard Huge for a dog! Anyway, that's great for Buddy. We've got a neighbor with a submissive black lab like that and he'll lay down in the road in front of us when we're walking, too!

It's a Yorkie Thing Donating Member | Little dogs and big dogs can be best friends. I have 4 dogs, from my yorkie to a rottwieler and they all love each other. people who have not been around "Big" dogs don't know that they don't know they are any different than the "little" dogs.

he becomes an aggressive pit bull around other unknown large dogs. Small dogs he loves, vet's office is no problem, groomer's no problem with big dogs but where we live or out anywhere it is a major problem. I really have worked very hard to get him to try and accept all dogs. He has become alittle better lately but I never expected that yesterday. I kissed him so much last night I think I made him sore | |
