Tail or no tail?? Hi All, I have a question. I was out the other day with my little girl Pita and I ran into another fellow yorkie owner. She was looking at Pita a bit strange. She came over and asked me where I got her from. I told her that I had gotten her from my sister about 5 months ago, and then I asked her why...well she proceeded to tell me that my dog was "wrong". I was a bit taken back by her words and asked her why she said that. She said it was her tail. It hadnt been cropped, It was long and every yorkie should have had their tail cropped as a puppy. So, my question is, is this true? I guess I have never really noticed with any Yorkies I have ever come across. Is that a standard practice with Yorkie puppies? Is my girl a freak?? :yelrotflm I dont care either way but was just curious about your tails. Thanks |
Kodak's tail is not cropped and I love the way the hair grows on it, I don't get the hair cut but a few inches so it will hang. Kamari's tail is cut and it's cute to. It's illegal to cut the tail in some countries which may be why she asked where you got your pup. |
Both of the BOYS are cropped but if a long tail doesn't bother you then I wouldn't worry about it ! I have seem photos of either way ! Yorkies are just cute regardless :aimeeyork |
No, she is not a freak! She's your special furbaby. In the UK they do not crop and feel it's inhumane. Even in the US it's discussed more and more about whether tails should be cropped in some breeds. I like Yorkie's tails. I'm sure you'll hear from people who feel both ways. I'm not very knowledgable about tails. I just know they usually get cropped. Maybe someone else can shed some light on the practice. My mix has a stub, but she has lots of hair that grows on the end so it looks like she has a little plume-tail. It's cute. I cut her a tail hole in her little onsies so the plume shows and can wave when she wags her stump. ;) |
Keepin the Tail There would be no way I would ever change my girl...She is perfect to me. This women was just semi rude in her questioning and judgemental almost. I dont really care what people think of my girl...I love her just the way she is and that is all that matters. I love to see her wag her tail in delight. It is pure happiness. |
In America, its AKC standard that yorkie tails be cropped, so puppies from most breeders have their tails cropped. However, its quite common to see yorkies with their tails intact, there are several on this forum that I can think of. |
No, your yorkie isnt a freak. It is just the norm here to crop them but some people dont. In alot of other countries is it against the law to crop them..I have one that has no tail at all because the vet cut it too short and she is no freak. It is funny to watch her little nub shaking back and forth. LOL...... |
There's just about nothing I love more in the world than a tail waggin. I'm a big fan of tails although I understand AKC and show regulations for docking. Otis has a docked tail, I love it when he wags that nubbin!!!! |
The AKC standard calls for docked tails so most yorkie breeders have the tails docked the first couple days after birth. I've only seen a couple yorkies with full tails - most are docked. |
I like them, docked or not docked...either way, I just love Yorkies. Winston's is docked, but of course I bought him that way...it wasn't my choice, I just love him, and actually his little nub tail is cute...and yes, it wags!!! |
1 Attachment(s) Here's Rocky & his tail!!!!! When Rocky & his sister Jilly were born we had decided beforehand that they would keep their tails. Jilly's curls up on her back like a Maltese. |
In Iceland we do not crop beacause it is against the law, also many people feel it's inhumane. Can see mine with his tail here in my picture (avatar picture). The Yorkie standard even has a new part in it, now it sais how both cropped and uncropped tail should be like. So, no your Yorkie is not strange  |
Both of our's had their tails cut as puppies. Their dew claw has been removed too. Your yorkie is just fine. Don't think your baby is a freak. All pets come in all shapes and sizes and we still love them. |
The breeder I got Reeses from had theirs docked so Reeses has a docked tail. I havent ever seen a yorkie with a long tail but that doesnt make her a freak. If the breeder doesnt automatically have it done, then its just personal preference the way I see it...but...I wouldnt dock it once you get the dog b/c I would think the older the pup is the more it would hurt unless vets can still do it in a different way. Cause when they are newborns the docking procedure just consists of taking a tail dock which looks like big dog nail clippers and they just chop it off and stitch the end up. No gas or nothin. Which seems painful but supposedly they cant feel it bein that young. I wouldnt worry about it tho...Im sure your baby is precious either way!! |
I love them with or with out a tail and No it is not wrong or freakish! your baby is cute. |
