Coats???? 4 Attachment(s) Okay I didnt wanna hijack the other thread about coats so Il ask in here cuz I have lots of questions.... Okay I am told Bella is Slik and Diggy looks cotton. I seriously don't know. Here is my questions? 1st What do you think they are? 2nd- Can you be a Silky on the outer coat and cotton on the underneath? 3rd-Do silks grow slower? 4th- I cannot get Bellas hair on her back to grow even and get that long....I get her groomed but say only trim her hair on her legs and shve her feet and do nothing to the hair on her back, it that what I am supposed to do or should I have back hair trimmed also to promote growth? 5th- Someone said Diggy looks soft by his coloring? are there coloring patterns for certain coats? How many coats are there and can I see examples of them? Here's mine opinions are greatly appreciated and explainations too!!! |
more pics 4 Attachment(s) coats the first is bella a month ago, second is her at 7 months, and then her and Diggy last month. Oh and your probably seeing Diggys white going ????? I think he is a Parti Splitter... Oh then Bella with the flowers |
1 Attachment(s) CUTE PICTURES !! and ok - I'll try - I'm no expert but based on my 2 who are one of each - and from what I've read and talked about for 5 years now :D 1st What do you think they are? Silky and PUPPY LOL (hard to tell at this age) 2nd- Can you be a Silky on the outer coat and cotton on the underneath? I don't know but there IS something called Modified Silk - which is in between the 2 types 3rd-Do silks grow slower? I think so yes. Chanels hair grows 4 times faster than Cheri's whp is silky 4th- I cannot get Bellas hair on her back to grow even and get that long....I get her groomed but say only trim her hair on her legs and shve her feet and do nothing to the hair on her back, it that what I am supposed to do or should I have back hair trimmed also to promote growth? I don't think cutting the hair promotes growth - at least not in my own experience with my girls - I'd just let it grow and not cut it unless you're just doing it to even her up 5th- Someone said Diggy looks soft by his coloring? are there coloring patterns for certain coats? good question - I've seen dark coated silky coats and dark coated soft - True silk will have a blue sheen to it & feel cool to the touch How many coats are there and can I see examples of them? I really think 3 types are seen the most - Silk - Modified Silk and Soft but the experts can tell you better So you can see a Puppy who will grow into a soft coat - here's Baby Chanel who already showed signs of BIG Texas Hair LOL |
Oh I had them mixed up on the other thread. Bella is definately silk. I am not sure about the puppy as I have 2 also that I am waiting for their coats to grow. But Diggy has the gray at the front....can Yorkies have the silver blue coat and cotton coat? I thought the silver meant they would be silky? |
Thanks for responding!!! In the pic you posted "big Texas Hair" lmao, had she just been brushed?? See Diggy is curly can they be soft and be curly?? |
I was the one who said your dog looked soft because of his coloring. There are other ways to tell, usually a softer coated puppy has fluffy feet and legs. I am not sure of the age when this is foolproof but they say that red eyeshine signifies soft. Does he have green eyeshine? |

Eye shine = what color the flash makes his eyes? When you take a pic with the flash, does he get red eye or green/blue? |
cottony= red silky = green or blue |

Aww..how can she have devil eyes when she's such an angel? LOL Love the pics of both girls. And Diggy4, your furbabies are adorable! |
Gizmo is toomuch....is that rain gear he is in??? How stinkin filthy cute is that???? Bellas coat is just driving me nuts...one day after I wash it, she looks like she hasnt been bathed in weeks. Diggy's is curly and part fluff. His eyes def. reflect green/blue....Bella's I just dont know lemme look at her baby pics. |
1 Attachment(s) here is Bella at like 9 months she was at that awkward phase....but her coat was really wirey and weird then. |
Ah thanks! Yep, that's the raincoat I made him. Here's the link to more pics of it. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...light=raincoat That pic of Bella is adorable, but I still can't tell! I think Diggy's issue is the same as Gizmo's....still in puppy coat. The cool thing is that we get to watch both of our little boys grow into their coats together. :woof: |
silky ohhh he is sooo cute! LOVE IT!!! Maybe someone will see her hair and say OH MINE WAS JUST LIKE THAT!!! It seriously drives me crazy....maybe its the shampoo i use....It only looks really silky for a day! :( |
2 Attachment(s) Here's a picture of my baby's dad. It looks like someone colored his eyes green. LuLu's looks white to me or is that light blue/violet. I find it amazing how yorkie's have different photo eye reflections. |
apollo eyes always reflect greenish/blueish, also his fur at the roots is very light silver, i know someone said the color determined it too? the darker they were, they were most likely gonna have cotton? |
Bella has such a beautiful coat and Diggy has the typical puppy coat...it's wavy like Livi's. Does Diggy ever knot? Poor Livi has knots at the roots above her hind legs and the top of her front legs and also on her legs. I have tried brushing and using a detangler but she hates to me brushed and the detangler really doesn't do anything. I had never heard the theory of the color of flash in pictures being an indicator of coat texture....but if that is true, then I would say that Diggy will be silky. I wonder how many found that theory to be true.... Does Bella ever tangle, since she has a silky coat? What grooming products do you use on her...I love her coat so much!!!!! Tammy |
Hey Paula! One thing you asked, can they have silky with cottony underneath. I noticed that as Jake's hair grew and his puppy coat started growing out, his new hair was silky, but he did have a bit of a cottony coat underneath. Once all his puppy hair grew out, he's completely silky. Hope that makes sense.:) |
coats Bella looks very silk..and I think Diggy will be also...puppies can get tangled at the roots, even silk ones...use a metal comb to the skin out...good luck |
coats :) Quote:
And YES DIggy is knotting bad I was like WHAT THE HECK???? Bella never did AT ALL. glad to hear Im not the only one with a knotty baby!! So will Bella turn all silky then?? WHen is the puppy coat all the way grown out? SHe was 2 June 9th |
That's funny Paula, you were just talking about the knots diggy gets and the roots the other day..... Bella is just a precious perfect sweet little baby. I can't wait to see what diggy's "big boy" coat will look like with all of his white. I love all of your pics, you have the most beautiful babies. I need to be a better mom and take more pictures. |
awww ur a good mom i just happen to be a mom with a camera at my side all the time And Bella says thanks for thinking she is so pretty! What do you think of their coats?? Is this Bellas adult coat or can she still have some change? I just wish it was silky all over and not so curly & cottony on the legs...maybe thats normal though... |
coats Yorkies do not have part silk and part cotton. Her coat looks all silk to me..you do not reflection from cotton and even Bella legs shine silk. |
