Knock it off already.. I find it really rude when people on here say that a mixed breed or "mutt" is not as smart, or deserves not as good as a life as a purebred. Just so you know I have a yorkie poo, and he is very smart and the greatest companion I've ever heard. And I would love to have a Yorktese. I'm not saying that purebred dogs are not as good as a mixed bred, all I'm saying, is if you have nothing nice to say dont say it at all. Sorry, just had to vent...... |
Yea That! AMEN! Although I have 2 purebreds, I also have 2 no so pure breds.... honestly, my "not so pure" lab is the smartest animal period that I have ever been around! I loove all my babies just the same... d |
I can honestly say I can't recall reading a single post on YT where they were putting down mutts. Now, I have read where some have issues with the purposeful breeding of mixes, but that to me, is different than picking on the mixes themselves. I'm sorry if this has happened to you. |
I don't believe I saw that thread and I guess I am glad I didn't for many reasons. Any dog, pruebreed or mixed, to me, is not better than the other. It's just a matter of preference. I have had both and Buddy is no better than the mixes I had. I loved them all the same and the mixes were just as loving and smart as Buddy. Actually I find the prue breed more needy in many ways than the mixes. I hate the word "Mutts". To me anyone who uses it only has love for the pruebreed. There are no mutts in this world only dogs made up of more than one breed just like a Yorkie is. All deserve a loving home and a mommy to call their very own. |

Well I called them "mixed breed" and I love them. I have had several and they were all smart. Patty |
Was that posted here on YT? I've never seen anyone putting down mixed breed dogs. I've only seen posts referring to the lack of ethicality when it comes to breeding mixes. |

You didn't offened me in anyway. I posted after you did. I have called my own dogs mutts playfully of course but don't let anyone else. That's like calling our kids a brat but don't let anyone else. I didn't see the original thread either. You just gotta love them all no matter what. |
I LOVE mixed breeds!! When I was a little, we had a little mixed breed, well he was maybe 30lbs, I don' tknow i was a really little girl, but he was the best dog ever! He had a long husky like tail, short little legs w/ a chubby body like a weiner dog, and a long snout. I think he was part shepard or something..but that dog was my favorite. I would love to adopt a mixed breed in the future. :) |
huh?? I too have never read anything derogitory about a mixed breed??? I would have been very offended if I had, and if there is a post on here saying something bad about them I'd like to know. |
I'm not trying to start a controversy here. I just saw something that upset me about mixed breeds, not going to say any names, because again I dont want a huge ordeal. I just want to let that person know they are rude and disgusting. And i love my baby even though he's a "Mutt", which by the way I hate that word. A dog is a dog, no matter what kind, color, shape, or size. They all deserve love and care. |
pure or not pure,, i just love all animals to death..... |
When I wanted a 2nd yorkie, I found very quickly I could not afford one. My friend had a shihpoo that was the sweetest little dog and Otis loved him to pieces. The people she got him from were advertising and had more shih poo's. Turns out, being poor was a blessing for me because my "mixed breed" shih poo is just as I thought he would be, sweet, obedient (most of the time), silly, and cute as a button. It's great to be loyal to a breed, but when preference of one breed turns into "snubbing" of all others, purebred or mixed, it's time to check yourself. I myself have never seen a thread here talking down about mixed breeds, if I did I would be very disappointed. We are yorkie lovers, but we are animal/dog lovers first. |

The only time I have seen a dog referred to as a "mutt" is when it is said affectionately and in jest. And furthermore.....the only time I see anything negative about mixed breeds is when someone comes on here asking if they bought a purebred or not. Then we have to tell the person that they have been charged a high price for a dog that is supposed to be a yorkie but is instead a mixed breed. The negative factor isn't about the dog it is about a nasty breeder that lies for money! I'm sure the members that show their dogs can explain the damage that such lies can do to the breed itself. I'm not a breeder and I don't own a mixed breed but I firmly believe that when two breeds are combined the offspring gets the best of both. So if you think someone was bashing mixed breeds, then send them a pm and tell them you are offended. I'm sure you will get a sincere apology. JMTC |
Huh?? I'm kind of lost here... I also don't remember reading any thread or post putting down mixed breeds... And I agree w/ what Gingergirlsmom said about purposeful breeding of mixes...;) I've had rescued mixes ALL my life, and I can say that most of them (like 99.9%) are the most loving and greatfull animals I have seem...;) :animal-pa |

I agree we're dog lovers first here and in all my time here have never seen anyone put down a mix or use the word 'mutt' in a bad way - back in the day it was a very common word used to describe a dog of unknown origins LOL - and depending on how you were raised - some use the term more than others but again - when I have seen it - it wasn't meant to hurt anyone. I personally don't use the word - but wouldn't get upset if I saw it...I think people are becoming more P.C. these days and using the word mix instead vs mutt though |

Funny... growing up I always thought a Mutt was a slang word for a dog and a mongrel was I guess what you call a mutt or a derogetory word for a mixed breed dog. I have often referred to dogs as mutts but with no intention of insulting the animal nor owner. I guess I just thought a Mutt was another word for dog  Can't political correctness get quite confusing? |
I have a mix - 1/2 maltese, 1/2 yorkie and he is great! I have read a lot about responsible breeding on here and agree with that 100%, but I wouldn't trade my mixed up baby for the world. We all love our dogs on here - it is obvious by reading the posts and that is what is important!! On a lighter note, when I was first dating my boyfriend we were talking about our families and our nationalities and I told him I was a mutt (used affectionately and in a good way) b/c I have so many different nationalities, and just like mutts (mixes) make good dogs, I told him they also make good people! haha he told me I was crazy (kidding of course) and wouldn't suggest walking around saying that haha |

I have never minded the term "mutt" because that is what I am myself. I have always referred to myself as one, or Heinz 57. But I have never heard anything negative on YT about mixed breeds other than the purposeful breeding of them. I think we can all say that we have had some wonderful mixed breeds in our lives, and my two grand-puppies are mixed breeds. One is the cutest dog, with a head of a beagle and the body of a pointer! Everyone laughs, and I love it! He is the cutest dog I know!:animal36 |
I've never heard any one on here put down mixed breeds. As a breeder I hate to see the different breeds mixed and than sold for tons of money under the label desgner dog. Each breed has it's own special characteristics, each dog is special. I want to see the yorkie remain true and retain it's special characteristics. I hate to see people spend alot of money on a designer dog when the breeder didn't take 2 seconds considering the pedigrees to determine the outcome of a breeding. |
