| ok......... toby and i just got back from the vet and this is what they said....... number one: my butthead boyfriend i dont think told me EXACTLY what the vet said, so from now on i am taking him in myself.... number 2: when my boyfriend took him iin last week, the vet DID achnowledge that it was kennel cough, BUT since toby is so young AND he doesnt have any secondary infections associated with kennel cough the vet decided to just put toby on an anticough medicine and wait it out (instead of putting him on heavy duty antibiotics and heavy cough medication), but he cautioned that we need to watch really carefully for any green/yellow nasal discharge or puffy eyelids, lack of apetite, or if he is lethargic and not his normal alert self.... all in all it appears that toby has a VERY MILD case of kennel cough, and as with all viral infections (such as a cold, ect...) there is nothing short of DRASTIC to do but wait it out and keep an eye on him to make sure it doesnt go into any secondary infections.... I've also been reading quiet a bit about this online, and the consesus is usually to just take them into the vet for a checkup (which i did) and the vet will either A) perscribe teh heavy antibiotics and cough medicine IF AND ONLY IF, there is a secondary infection ....... OR.......... B) take cough suppresants and wait it out if it is a mild case (which toby's is) If i had known that the vet ACHNOWLEDGED that is was kennel cough, i wouldnt have taken him in again..... but my boyfriend told me and i quote "the vet said it was nothing major and dont worry about it".... obviously i will be doing all teh vet visits from here on, what happened was a total lack of communication and my anger at the vet was unfounded becuase he actually DOES know what hes talking about, it was just my boyfriend that was clueless....... *for those of you who are just peeking at the last messages and havent been up to date with the WHOLE conversation, my boyfriend told me the vet said there wasnt a problem when toby actually had kennel cough (obvious kennel cough) and i went berserk coz i thought the vet didnt know how to recognize it and if he didnt he was a horrible vet......... |

| Brownies Mom! Great picture of you and your babies! Don't know which is more adorable, you or the dogs! Ha! Don't worry! I'm a woman! Hee! Hee! Orinskye! So glad your dog is okay! Nothing like paying the vet twice because "The Man" couldn't get it right! Did he listen? Probably not, all he heard was not too bad or something to that effect! Good luck, anyway. Pat |
