Balcony Issue - My Solution 3 Attachment(s) After getting many creative responses to my question (thank you!!!), I finally figured out a solution to my balcony railing problem. Riley liked to stick out too far between the rails and perch her feet on the other side! Last night, she fearlessly walked through the rails and then traipsed along the 5 inch walk on the other side of the railing!!!  Needless to say, I figured out a solution first thing this morning. I went to Walmart (nice & quiet on July 4th morning, btw) and browsed the garden section. I purchased plastic "chicken wire" and some cable ties. It was only $10 for a 30' roll that I was able to cut down and fasten to the railing. 45 minutes later I was finished! Here are some pictures. It really isn't an unattractive solution. I trimmed up the plastic mesh so it looks neat, pulled it taut, and trimmed the cable ties. |
I think it's just perfect! What a good idea :) Now everyone will be safe and OMG what a brave girl you have! I'm glad she is ok and you have a solution~! |
good job    |
Thank goodness you saw how daring he was getting & was able to nip it in the bud... that could have been disastrous... |
:) I di something very similar For our deck. Works well. :) |

For all of her 2.9 lbs, she really is fearless. Thankfully nothing spooked her last night while she was on the ledge. I was busy trimming Penny's nails, and a stern "Come" had her through the railing and back on safe ground. I'm so glad nothing spooked her while she was on the ledge! |
Oh my! Thankfully nothing bad happenned to her last night. I think what you did was a great idea.. if I ever have a balcony, that's probably what I'd do too. btw, CUTE turtle! :p |
What a good idea with the plastic chicken wire! I bet anyone who isn't looking for it won't even notice it. Wow a VERY brave little girl you have there! I'm glad you got it fixed so she can't do that again. |

Great idea! She sure loves to explore the balcony! |
Great idea for all YT friends with balconies and decks and fearless explorers. |
Great idea!!! You are so smart! |
Great Idea - Now You Have Peice Of Mind....... Priceless. |
I would be careful if it's plastic..If these little stinkers want out they will certainly find a way....Like..chewing.I was also going to suggest the short picket fence...and I think it would look nice too...I hope the plastic chicken wire works for you.. |

Very clever:) I did that on my front porch because Rebel decided to go thru the railing and down the steps to the road:eek: I used screen wire and thumb tacks. These little guys are soooo smart and sooooo fearless! |
I'm impressed... and it looks so nice and neat :) |
Thats exactly what I did a few months ago....works geat except I have to change the ties at the bottom every so often becasue some little fur monster keeps chewing them off |
This is a great idea. We are going to the beach in Sept and staying in a 10th floor condo which has a 52' balcony. I was concerned someone would let Stella out by accident and she'd explore. Think you may have just solved my problem because it really isn't that noticable. |

I did the same thing using garden netting. It created a curtain between the bottom of the deck railing and the deck. Gracie does not go near it. I still supervise her just in case. |
Great Idea! I also had that issue with my raised back porch, but I had two superyard xt's that I was no longer using, so I just opened it up and tied each end to the railing.. I'll post a pic tonight of it :) |
I used the plastic gutter guards for my decik dilemma. I just stapled them on. |
That's what I have. And the apartment people don't get mad about it either becasue they don't even realize it's there! |
Great idea!! I had the same problem once and used pexiglass and cut it to fit. |
