Do people ask you this? Sometimes when I am walking Teddy and London people I am familiar with but don't really know actually ask me if they can have London. When they do that I think they are joking and some are so i just laugh it off and say no way but i think some people are actually serious 'cause they ask me again. I mean what in their right mind makes them think I will give them my London?? At least 5 people have asked me this in my neighborhood, it's so annoying. And 2 of those people were complete strangers. And they only ask for London 'cause she is "little and cute", well she is but there's nothing wrong with Teddy :( Anyway does this happen to you?? |
I know exactly what you mean! I get that question a lot...my students even ask me if they can have one of my dogs. |
A few do, but I think they are only joking. |
It happens to me also and I hate it. I don't understand how people can expect you to just say ok I will give one of my kids away,lol...Are these people nuts or what??? They wouldn't just give away their skin kids, so why do the expect we would do it with our furkids. |

Maybe they think you are a breeder:confused:, the other day my hubby was walking Phoebe and he hear one girl telling the other one, oohh how cute we should steal, this puppy, I told my hubby maybe they were joking, my hubby said he doesn't think so, boy my hubby was  and he doesn't get mad easy, he is a tall guy, I don't walk my Phoebe alone never only with him and my pepper spray:aimeeyork |
Kinda off topic, but the question I get asked the most (and I am sure you do to since you have two as well) is "Are they related?" |

I get that too. Sometimes as a joke, and sometimes seriously. The worst was the time that this girl kept on trying to give me her number in case I needed to give him away someday. |

I work in dog boutique/grooming salon and always have Lacy at work with me. We don't sell any animals at the store...just clothing, accessories, and specialty items. My boss and I usually have our yorkies running around behind the counter. Sometimes people ask if they're for sale. Nope..they're ours (and we don't sell animals). A lot of customers talk to Lacy when they come in as well and I've heard some people say to her, "Do you want to come home with me?." One guy kindof freaked me out one time. He was really really strange and from out of town...like there was just something off about him. He came in and bought some cans of dog food and walked around the store. He kept buying a few things at a time...paying each time..then deciding to buy more. Well then he was going to leave but he starts talking to Lacy and saying, "Oh I bet you want to come live out in the country with me and be a country dog and stuff like that." He then starts to walk out of the store but then just stops and stares over at us...kindof freaked me out...I was glad when he left. A lot of people come in the store and say they want a dog like her and that she's so cute and all. By the way - I want to steal London ;-) Just kidding but she's Adorable!!! I haven't seen any pictures of Teddy i don't think, but I saw the ones you posted of London today. Plus - everytime I see you post about her it makes me want a puppy even worse because I have planned to name my next baby London for like 1 1/2 years now! I was so excited when I joined YT and saw a yorkie named London! I love that name and I think it would go well with Lacy |

A lot of times when Hallee and Gracie go the Groomer, our Groomer tells me that someone who came in wanted to take Hallee home. Hallee is just a tiny bit smaller than Gracie and looks like a little cuddly bear. I can believe it that people would actually ask you this. What are people thinking, that you would actually give your baby to them. Heather |
One day when I had Davie at Petsmart, I had a lady actually pick Davie out of the strooler I had her in. I ask her to put her back and she was very offended. It scare me to death. I now zipper the stroller shut when I am in the store with her in the stroller. |

I hate when i take the dogs out in the stroller they expect me to stop for each person and let them say hello when i have the dogs in the stoller it means im going somewhere not to just walk them around in it |

i think you should try something like, "they are part of the family and it would be like giving you my son/daughter." if you're feeling cruel (yeah, i know) you could say, "he has xxx disease and it costs us xxx amount of money to keep him healthy." no one wants a "sick" dog. and they have no idea...you could make up a fun disease with your family. that way it's a joke when you say it and you can smile at each other. like --giventakinosteosis, which affects his bowels--or pettinskininosis, which makes him highly aggressive towards strangers (if it wasn't for the $1200 a month suppositories). people say the same things about babies. "i'll take him for ya," "oooo can i hold him??" and in texas there is a hispanic superstition about "the ojo" or "the eye" and they canNOT walk by a baby without touching it. this drove me CRAZY! you just have to continue to laugh it off and think about how lucky you are that you don't drive people crazy and have enough respect to treat their kids and animals properly. also, i would be highly angered (not the word i'd use) by someone taking my dog out of a cart. i think you had every right to get on to that woman and screw her if she was *gasp* offened. making me angry just thinking about it. hope that was helpful! |
Re: Asking To Have Your Puppy i HAVE HAD THE SAME QUESTION ASKED OF ME, AND I JUST GIVE A SMALL LAUGH AND CHANGE THE SUBJECT, IF THEY ASK AGAIN I DO THE SAME THING. THEY USUALLY GET THE SAME MESSAGE ON THE FIRST LAUGH.:animal-pa |
I've had friends say things like "Oh you are so sweet, wouldn't you like to come home with me! I bet you would fit right in my bag..." But they are dear friends and I know without a doubt that they are joking and giving me a compliment on how wonderful Paddington is. I don't know what I'd do if someone I don't know ever asked me to give him away. I'd probably say that there are some good breeders and if they want one then they have to get one of their own like I did. My mom keeps threatening that she's going to steal him :p She dogsits for me, and every time I come to pick him up she asks "Where are you going with my puppy???" LOL I might get her one for Christmas, just so she'll leave mine alone! :animal-pa -O |
I have had people ask me if they could have Tucker and I laugh it off but I always get a sick feeling in my stomach...I mean the audacity!! The groomer we went to actually made me really uncomfortable because she apparently carried him around with her the whole day and kept talking about how she wanted to take him home...even the cashiers commented on how badly she wanted him. I wouldn't even think to joke about taking someone else's furbaby; I would just compliment and love on them with their owner's permission. I've been lucky in the respect that people generally ask if they can pick him up or pet him first but I would be appalled if someone just scooped him up...especially out of a stroller! |
When people ask me if they could have Conner, I laugh and tell them that they would give him back after 2 hours (and it's the truth!!!). He is a little bugger. |
We have our dogs in fashion shows sometimes..I ran to the bathroom and my stepmother held on to our Gizmo while I ran in. It was really crowded there so you just had to hold on to him so no one would step on him..anyway a lady came up to her and gave a little small talk and then actually tried to take Gizmo out of her arms!!!! She had to get loud and say no - he's my dog!! That freaked me out!! |
People always ask me if they can buy one of them from me. It makes me nervous when I'm taking them for a walk or playing outside with them and someone asks that. I'm afraid that they will break in and try to take them so I always lie and tell them how they all have really serious medical problems and require hundreds of dollars worth of medication each week. No one wants to steal a sick puppy. I live in a nice neighborhood but you never know with some people. |
