I hate when people jokingly ask then you say no and they follow up with "can I have a puppy?" Firstly, I am not breeding her. Secondly, if I was, I wouldn't just give a puppy away to some stranger I don't know. I would never give a dog, even a rescue puppy, away to someone I had no idea about. |

I've had this happen with Emma. She is a yorkie jack russel terrier mix and not many people in this area have seen that combination. When she was a puppy I was out walking her with Bentley and she weighed under 3 lbs. An older couple drove by slowing down every time they would pass (they kept going around the block). Finally the man rolled down his window and asked if I would sell her to them. He said he could pay whatever I wanted for her right away. I politely told them that she is NOT for sale. His wife, who had to be in her 50's at least, threw a total hissy fit and started yelling at her husband and at me screaming about how she wanted this dog. I was totally freaked out, so I kept walking and my hubby was with me and told them to leave us alone, and that she wasn't for sale again. Then they asked where we got her, and I told them, but said that they were not breeding anymore.. they had done it a few times and were retiring their two pets and having them fixed. So, then they screeched away in their car, and circled the block a few more times. Some people are just a whole lotta crazy!! |

You know what I hate too?! I hate when a neighbor's four year old kid comes up with their parent to me and my dog on a walk and the kid asks if he can pick up my puppy and the parent just stands there and says nothing! I mean, I don't have a problem with people petting my dog, but he is easily upset and you have to be very gentle and now how to hold him. I mean, could the parent at least say, no honey, he's to fragile/little/whatever.....that makes me so mad! I can't say no because I don't want to hurt the kids feelings or upset the parent, but I don't want the kid dropping/hurting my dog! I mean, what are you even supposed to say there either? Lol, sorry, tooootally off topic there, you just made me think of something that always happend to me in my neighborhood that makes me so angry. But, nobody had ever asked if they could have my actual dog, more like, where did you get him from, how much blah blah, never ending questions. Im just like, look, you can do the research just like I did, it's not that hard. If someone asked to have my dog that wasn't kidding, I think I'd have a fit! Like, are you really serious?! Then I'll take the Benz and your son while I'm at it, right? Jeez! |

At least they ask! I have had 3 kids pick up my Zoey. They pick her up upside down, or by the middle. I almost have a heart attack. I just say "oh, be careful she is very little" and take her away. The stupid parents dont say anything. One of the parents even seemed a little miffed. Like Im supposed to let their kid squeeze my dog like a tube of toothpaste in the middle. One kid picked the dog up 4 times with me telling them no each time. These are not friends of mine. They are neighbors or friends of my mom so I dont feel like I can just "go off" on them, but I get soooooo mad! I dont want to come off like an over protective freak! |

Exactly that's how I feel! Oh, poor little Zoey! I swear, if some little kid hurt my Edan I would be chasing their little tails down the block and back. LoL....and I hate when the parents just stand there and giggle, like, awww how cute little Jack doesn't know how to handle an even littler dog...be careful with Zoey, don't let them pick her up anymore, if I saw them coming, I would just pick her up like I pick my puppy up when I see a big dog coming. |

People use to ask me that about Summer too. Most don't say that about Abigail bc she is larger, but the people who know Abigail love her soo much. Lola hasn't been out as much yet because we have only had her a few or so. |

I always pick up London when we are around kids or dogs. If they ask to hold her I say no nicely whether or not their parents say anything. No kid has ever just tried to pick her up w/o asking but i would hate if that happened |
Only a person without any class or tact would ask somebody that. Sheesh. |
i've never had anyone do that to me! i would look at them like they were nuts if they did! |
I've had several people ask if they can pick Lacy up. I almost always say no to them. I have no problem saying no - if they get upset OH WELL. I would never let a child pick her up. I usually only let my parents, sister, best friend, coworkers (she sees them everyday) and people she knows well pick her up. Otherwise she gets real stiff and nevous if someone holds her. |
Kids are ALWAYS picking up Paddington!!! I can't stand it! I am a preschool teacher and love children, and I think Paddington can sense that because he is very friendly with them. As a result, the kids pick him up.I tell them nicely to put him down, and most do, but some ignore me and I have to take him from them. I never quite know what to say when adults pick him up though! Some people ask "can I pet your dog" and I say yes, and they pick him up!!!! I said you could pet him, not pick him up!!! It doesn't help me when I'm training him not to go bonkers when he sees people.... not to mention it scares the bejeezes out of me! -O |
I love that everyone on here can relate. This is my first post. I almost went crazy when I started taking Copper out in public. He used to climb in my purse on his own so I would just carry him arround like that. I had a lady walk up to me and reach under my arm and grab him from my purse. Then she asked me every question under the sun about him, I was so shocked I didn't know how to take it. My Bf grabbed him from her and we excused ourselves. I didn't want to take him out for a while after that. Scary people! |
Yes, I get this far more than I care for. I think it has to do mainly with the appeal and attraction these fantastic little dogs have as pets. They're cute, they're smart, they're small, they're fun. For some reason, these people think that they're up for grabs if you simply ask. I think this has to do with the different kinds of people. I have NEVER asked to have someone's dog, just like I'd NEVER ask to have someone's (human) kid. To me, my dogs are my children. I tend to get offended when people try to grab my dog or ask to buy to have my dog. If you wouldn't do it to someone's kid, why do it to their furr-kid? You're not alone. Just tell them that NO, they cannot have your kids. If they ask again, I'd tell them to sod off. |
Can anyone answer a few questions????? Hello I am a proud new yorkie owner to the lovely 4 month old Oscar and he is the light of my life but can any one help with a few questions I have? 1. One of Oscar's ears has fallen down, is this because he is teething? Is it likely to go back up? 2. I have heard yorkie's can suffer ill effects from anesthetic, is this quite common and how can I minimise the risk? 3. I take Oscar for two twenty minutes walk every day on the lead, my mum says I should let him have some freedom and let him off the lead in the fields but I am worried about losing him, who is right? He hasn't learnt the "come" command yet so I am concerned. Finally, how come the pictures on this site of most of the yorkie pups have pricked up ears, do you "stand" them artificially in America (I am from England)? Thanks to anyone who can help! All wisdom gratefully received...... |
Hi coffeechloe! It says you are from Lancaster; I spent a month in england last fall and spent a good deal of my time in Lancaster! Welcome to the forum! You might find that you'll get more answers to your questions if you start a new thread for them. 1. My Paddington's ear fell shortly after they started to stand up. This was because of an ear infection. I've heard of yorkies' ears falling because of teething, but if he is also scratching at it and whining I'd have it looked at. I thought mine was from teething too, but it was a pretty bad infection. 2. I have no idea, but I'm curious to know the answer as well! 3. DO NOT take him off the lead, especially if he does not respond to "come" yet! I walk Paddington through a park, and I used to let him off his lead when we came to a big field. I stopped that ever since he went chasing after a bicycle a few weeks ago!!!! I couldn't catch him, and the cyclist had to stop and catch him for me! I was terrified! And Paddington is very good at the command "come"... you never know what your puppy will do when he is so excited! 4. As the puppy gets older, the ears will stand up naturally. Hope I've helped! I'm new to this too; My puppy Paddington Bear is only four months old, and he's my first dog. You'll get tons of info here!!! -O |
ayayay so yesterday when i was walking the midgets this lady from the area stopped me and went crazy over London. She kept saying in spanish "She's mine, she's mine. Nobody else's, you're mine" I was smiling and kinda pulling the leash and in my head thinking Freak. LOL Then i asked my bf to go to the store for me and i kept walking up. While i was waiting for him the lady appears again cause she was going in to the building and she KEPT saying it over and over. Then she tried to pick her up and I stopped her and said "She jumps" and took her away. She is a nice lady, I see her once in a while walking around caue she lives around here but she's kind of crazy |
This happens to us all the time, particularly at the vet/groomer when we go. There is one employee there that wants Emma, and I mean WANTS her. I don't know what it is about my furgirl, but this lady is in love with her. There were 5 yorkies at the groomer today, and I was thinking-does she love them all like she loves Emma? Nope, I don't think so! At first, it was flattering, then annoying, and now I wonder if it's ok to leave Emma there for the day to be groomed? But, I figure there are SO many other people there, it's probably ok, she probably just has a special place in her heart for Emma, and goes overboard telling me about it! |

How do you say it? I always feel so awkward and before i know it, I blurt out sure and then somebody almost drops him. I always feel so sorry for him afterward but i just don't know how to say no--I feel like I dont know how the other person will react! |
