Ive never heard of this before this thread, I cant believe ppl do this ...i agree with the baby analogy, Louie is my baby so that would be totally out of the question...i would have to move if it came down to it.

I took in 2 rescue Yorkies years ago that had come from a puppymill and been de-barked. The female made wheezing noises instead of barking and had a collapsed trachea. It was so sad. The other was a male and when they shoved the metal tube down his throat they broke out his upper and lower teeth. I was told that the millers, some show breeders and larger breeding programs de-bark females so they don't teach their pups to bark to stimuli.
This procedure is inhumane, cruel and should be illegal.

Absolutely not. I can't really think of a justifiable reason for it. I agree with those who said if you don't like barking don't have a dog. Lexie barks, usually for a good reason and not at all excessively. I would miss it. I think she has a lovely voice

I knew a samoyeds breeder who showed her dogs and worked as a handler at shows and she had her dogs de-barked

So, some show breeders do it. I do not know if it's common.

I dont agree..I think that'd be like tying a kid with ADHD to a chair to keep them calm. Peeka isnt a barker though, if he was i'd just try everything I could to discourage it. If it was an apartment issue i'd try to re-home him.
