LOL. We keep Kalina clean but our 4y/o human boy is pretty clean too. We try to keep him out of swamps and he doesn't have head lice.

The only time I 'smuggled' Pepper in was when he was a 2 lb puppy and we stayed in a hotel that doesn't allow dogs. He was so quiet then, you wouldn't know.. But, oh well, he grew, he's a typical 'dog' LOL, hates his carrier, besides, at 5 lbs, his carrier looks more like a gym bag :rolleyes: , wants to walk and be seen ... I take him into a flower store, quick stop at a local deli - they don't mind, and a friendly local bakery- family owned where the owner has a Yorkie herself and she brings her to the shop sometimes...

I've never heard of someone being allergic to a Yorkie, but in my opinion, if you have allergies you know you might be subjected to something you are allergic to somewhere. Sometimes I think I'm allergic to some people's kids..LOL. Seriously though, I know it sounds mean, but somebody else's allergy or phobia isn't my problem. My dog is clean and well behaved and she deserves to go where I want her to (within reason of course - we don't usually go in restaurants or grocery stores). If someone has a problem with it, they can stand far away from us.

Couldn't edit my last post but what I wanted to add was: what about people with allergies to perfumes or something? Should we all stop wearing perfume because 1/1000 people might be allergic?

I have allergies, and before I was on medication for them and I worked in retail, sometimes people would bring their dogs in and I would ask them to leave. If I am working, and someone brings their dog in illegally, it prohibits me from doing my job well as I am sneezing and my lungs are closing up.

In that case, me as the manager of a store and only employee working at one time, "standing far away" wouldn't work well especially if I have to help customers with pets and ring them out, ect.

Now that I am on medication and my allergies are well controlled, I am fine -- but I think it is a little rude to say that people with allergies should just suck it up and deal with it. I bring my yorkie places, but if someone says they are allergic, or it bothers them - I leave and come back w/o my dog. It is just courteous.

I think it is a privilege to be able to bring our fur babies places, but not a right. Although I wish more places were dog friendly, I don't like to hide that I'm bringing in a pet.

I've taken mine into bike stores, some jewelers, furniture stores -- but no chain stores or anything like that yet.

Come on, please be reasonable - perfume isn't something that is banned in public places, however, in some places, dogs are. Perfume can't be controlled - dogs in stores can.
Why would the rules of banned animals not apply to you if it does for everyone else? Why would it be more important to take your dog w/you than for someone else's right to breathe? And as for phobias, if I had one to dogs and I knew they were banned from a place, I would expect that other's follow that rule and not expect to encounter one there.
I love my dog just as much as anyone and yes, I wish I could take her places w/me, but I understand I can't and I don't. The rules are there, we should be courteous and respectful of others and follow the rules. Believe it or not, your babies will survive without you for a little while.

I had to take my little girl to work with me and the groomer was going to pick her up from there. I made sure it was fine with my bosses but I didnt consider how scared the kids would be!!!! I work at a daycare but I swear about half the kids were scared to death of this little 3 lb dog!!! I will never do that again. I realized how real it is to be afraid of dogs. I think if she isnt allowed, than I shouldnt take her. There are reasons that they are not allowed.

True that! Plus, I dont think that there is anyone that is going to be that severly allergic. My mom walks around with ten pounds of cat hair on her and nobody has keeled over yet. (Shes the crazy cat lady type.) If they are in a carrier then I dont think its a problem. Plus you are allowed to bring dogs on planes. What is more strict then an airplane? And the air is recycled too and no one freaks out about that.

hha when i saw this thread i got SO excited to see waht othes would say, i take my boy everywhere i have only gotten "kicked out" twice, once at a sushi place and once when i was checking out at the georcery store the clerk said i wasnt aloud to bring him in. last time i went to home depot there was BIG dogs on leashes everywhere it was crazy. haha

We've never sneaked our dogs into stores. But we take them to Petco and other pet friendly places often. :)

I can only feel sorry for the people who ARE severely allergic to dogs or anything else for that matter. My husband is extremely allergic to cats and actually has anaphylaxis reactions from very minimal exposure, so I know it can really stink.:(

Are you aware that some people are so allergic to dogs they can die if they get an attack? It is common curtesy not to take dogs into places they aren't supposed to be. I understand, I wish I could take my dog everywhere, but for the safety of other people - I don't.

and it's hardly 1/1000 people who are allergic to animals. Tyr 1/10 or so.

I have serious asthma-I mean serious--I keep my inhaler --In my pocket--really close! I have driven myself to the nearest hospital for oxygen before--I know about allergies--to perfume, smoking, dust, the gasoline pump, fur, etc-
I have difficulty breathing, most all the time-just walking past the entrance to a store--where someone is standing outside smoking because they cant smoke inside is a killer!

I know the allergens are out there ...everywhere...any asthmatic knows that and is prepared. There is no way to get away from it...the pet fur is on the clothing of the person standing in front of you in line at the store.

But--I will, if I need to take Lillybelle inside places-tucked away in her purse, such as not to offend, bother, be an irritant to anyone. I dont bring her for anyone to see, but because she is my companion and she is thrilled to go
"anywhere" we go the park for a walk when we run errands, or when we are on vacation, we just can't leave her in the car if there is no patio to eat out on (we try to find places that have a patio)..sometimes its just unavoidable...not something done on purpose..to sneak around. She is just part of the family and on occasion we have to slip her into her purse for practical reasons.

Some of us love to bring our little babies and some dont...sometimes it depends on where you are in your stage of life and the thoughtfulness of both.

I have taken my baby into the mall before...I just stay away from the food court and he rides in his little purse so hes not very obvious. :animal36

I've snuck Wickett in to all kinds of places in his purse. When we go to restuarants I close his purse so he doesn't poke his head out. Same at the grocery store. But at the mall and other such places, he peeks his little head out and everyone lavishes him with attention. We've never been kicked out. Haven't tried the movies yet.
