Do you sneak your baby in???? Zoey is almost done with her puppy shots. I was thinking I would take her everywhere as soon as she is old enough...then I started thinking...Where can you take a dog? Not to the grocery store, not the mall, not the starbucks... Do people give you a hard time for bringing them places? Do you ever ""sneak"" them in somewhere?? |
I take Deiter everywhere, If I don't think they will let him go in, I put him in his purse. He goes in resturants, grocery stores, you name it and he goes. Nobody even knows that he is in there. He is very quite. |
I take mine to the mall all the time. When my son was younger (1-2 years old), he sits in the stroller with my son and now that my son is 4 years old, I put him in my purse and go shopping like he's not there. The security guards never say anything when they see him, or maybe because the Galleria is such a big mall that they don't care. I see everyone do it all the time. So maybe it is okay to do it. Who knows?!? |
YES! lol I sneak London everywhere cause I take her in her carrier, except to restaurants. |
I have never taken my GiGi anywhere. (storewise) Probably because I am chasing a 5 year old and 1 year old. I am not very good at SNEAKING!! They would probably waiting for a reason to kick us out, I wouldnt need help from a dog in my purse. I have seen other (quiter) people do it!!! I wont tell if I see any of you out!! |
Quieter!!! Good lord my eyes are bad today!!! WHO am I kidding!! I wouldnt even see you or your dog!! I need glasses, I must be getting YT eyes from being on the computer so much!! |
Wobie goes everywhere with me. He's a service animal in training, though. I've seen lots of dogs in Starbucks, I think some of them are really lenient about it. |
Deiter would be lost if I didn't take with me. I haven't tried a movie yet. I would love to make Deiter a service dog. How do you go about that? |
I take Luigi with me all the time in his little purse. I've taken him to the mall, El Pollo Loco (haha), Whole Foods Market (they said no pets too..but he's so tiny and he stayed in the purse and I was there for 2 seconds, so what the heck), etc. So yes, I do sneak him in. He's so tiny, I could even be blatantly holding him if I wanted to & it takes awhile for people to notice. Sometimes if you get a good carrier that looks like a purse, people will have no idea. Only place I couldn't take him..Goldenspoon (frozen yogurt place that I love). Had a "no pets" sign on the window, and I wanted to be good, so I let my little sis wait outside with him ;) |
I saw a pomeranian at Macy's once. She was in a bag that looked like a purse and her head popped out. I got startled. The saleslady didn't seem to mind. |
I have never tried to sneak Winston in any where, we just frequent dog friendly places. |
Recently while I was on vacation, I noticed lots of signs on stores saying "please carry your dog, if he's too big to be carried than he is to big come into our store" So I think as long as you are carrying them it can't hurt to take them places, all they can do is ask you to leave if they don't like it! Eating establishements may be different, though, since they have stricter regulations regarding food issues. :animal-pa |
Zoey is so adorable!! I wish I could take Roxie everywhere with me. The only problem is that she does not stop barking when she is in her purse! (And it makes me said because her purse is really cute!) I have been trying to train her to be quiet. I am keeping my :xfingers: that I will be successful. But at least I can take Roxie on her leash to Starbucks. Dogs are allowed at the Starbucks by my house. :) |
Also, while we were vacationing we stopped at a Wendy's for a bite and the gal in the next booth had a baby skunk! Nobody said a thing to her, personally, I would much rather have prefered dining with a puppy, but that's just me!:) |
I've taken Max to places like the mall in a purse type carrier, and nobody's said anything so far, but I don't go into any food courts or restaurants there; usually just places like Macy's where I usually just run into the store and not out into the mall. I've taken him to places where they allow dogs and I'd never take him into a restaurant unless they said it was ok, just b/c I can't be certain that Max would not bark if someone came too close to me or something. I have taken him to a restaurant that let us bring him in in his carrier and they said as long as he stayed in it, it was fine. He was pretty tired, so it wasn't much of a problem anyhow and once, when we got to a place we frequent, it was raining by then, we had Max with us and the owner knew we'd leave, so he told us if we sat at one of the tables by the windows and put Max in his carrier and set it on the floor we could stay there. Thankfully, nobody noticed and Max was very good. I hate it when people complain, and there's always at least ONE miserable person who will. I don't want the restaurant owner to get into trouble either. The only time we really did sneak him in somewhere, was for my MIL's funeral when we had to find a hotel room and the only place we could get b/c everything else was booked, didn't allow dogs. We stayed there all the time too, so it was pretty tough.....and trying to make sure that Max didnt' bark and getting in and out (it was a small hotel that you would normally walk thru the lobby and by the front desk to go outside).....we had to take Max out thru the back stairs when he had to go out to go potty....ugh....I'll never do it again; it was too stressful, LOL. |
Nope. If he isn't allowed I don't take him. I see no point in sneaking him in where he can't go. I personally don't think it is fair to those shopping that might be allergic or even scared of dogs. Plus when I go shopping I don't want to have to take care of him at the same time. When he can go and is allowed he does go. |
Clothing stores are your best option. I have one of those fully enclosed carrier bags, but it's too bulky and she prefers to stick her head out. She rides around in a sling style bag and likes to just tag along. She is hyper in general but she just chills when she gets in that bag. Therefore, we can't really "sneak" since she is totally visible. Anyway, our local outdoor mall and outlet mall are semi pet friendly. Lots of restaurants with outdoor seating and a ton of stores that have paw prints in their windows to signify they are pet friendly. Taking Sammy does keep me from buying too much because they DO look at you funny when you take your dog in the dressing room and have a conversation with her. (Which is something I would only expect other YT people to understand.) BB&B, Michaels/JoAnns (especially when shopping for dog themed fabric! you can claim they needed to come to pick it out!), Lowes, OfficeMax, etc. are all good options. Obviously stay out of anywhere that serves or sells food and respect "no dogs" signs. You will find that the kids notice before the adults do. I get lots of giggles and smiles from kids and their parents never notice. |

The reason dogs aren't allowed in so many places is because of those who bring or, even worse, sneak their dogs in muck it up (thus making dogs allowed in less and less places).. |

Well, I don't really take mine places because 1) they don't really enjoy car rides that much and 2) I'm sure they'd rather spend that time napping on my bed....but, my general rule of thumb is, if I have to stop and wonder if it's OK to take them XXX, then it's probably not and it's better to just leave them at home than risk being asked to leave. I say just go where you want--it no one says anything great and if you are asked to leave, that's just how the cookie crumbles...rules are rules and there's not much you can do about it. Not the end of the world. I would never knowingly 'sneak them in' somewhere I knew they weren't allowed, but that's just me. I don't think I am above restrictions that apply to the general public, so I see no reason to try it. I can certainly understand why there would be rules against it and if I owed a business of anykind, as much as I love dogs, I wouldn't permit dogs (except service animals) either. |
Sam doesnt go all the time... like today.. I took him to Doggie Daycamp @ Petsmart while my mom and I shopped around. But normally he goes where I go. He has gone to Wal~Mart.. Target... the movies...etc... he lays in his purse and sleeps. He is good when we go. |
Lacy goes almost everywhere with me. I just don't take her into grocery stores or restaurants. Well, she went in McAllister's once in her carrier, and she has been to restaurants and sat with me on the patio. We go to On The Border all the time and sit on the patio. She just sits in my lap. She goes to work with me everyday and in most stores with me. Yesterday we went to the mall, and I had her in her stroller. Today we went to Petsmart and then I took her with me to go Pottery Painting. She slept in her stroller. Most malls allow little dogs (esp. in big cities) as long as you don't take them in the food court areas. The only mall that ever asked us to leave was back home where my parents live and it's a little crappy mall tha I don't really care to go to anyway. I told them they needed to get with the times LOL. I don't have a problem with dogs being anywhere...I think they are cleaner than a lot of people and cleaner than almost all kids. My dog is also much quieter and better behaved than most kids I see. I've never had a problem taking her anywhere with me except once in a Victoria Secret store. I had Lacy in her stroller and the girl working there walked all the way across the store to tell me she was allergic to dogs. Okay..if she was allergic shouldn't she have stayed where she was, and also most people aren't allergic to yorkies (especially since Lacy is bathed once a week). Anyway, most people just think she is so cute and well behaved. She goes pretty much everywhere with me and I plan to keep it that way |
my sister came with me for Zekes vet check and after she needed to run into Costco to pick up pictures... I dont know if every Costco is the same but in ours the photo pick up is on the left side next to the door and the rest of the store is on the other side of the gate. I went in with her thinking it would be ok because 1) we were literally ten steps into the store and 2) he still fit in my hand (he still didn't even weigh a pound). A man saw and kicked us both out. He wouldn't even let my sister get her pictures :( |
I have two stories to add to this thread: 1) After my Mom fell and broke her hip , had surgery, and was sent to a rehab center, I would sneak her dog, Sonny into her room and let them have visits. We got "caught", by a nurse, and she quickly shut the door, and played with Sonny too. The doctor was amazed by my Mom's quick rehab, and he was told about being able to see her baby, and the doctor officially OKed Sonny's visits.....he was her medicine!! 2) After this, I researched how I can legally take my Yokies into rehab and nursing homes in the area, and found Therapy Dog, International. I found out what the test intailed, worked with my Davie and Lexie for about 3 months and went and had them tested at the nearby Hospise. They both passed, I had the vet check them and he filled out paperwork, and sent in the papers. Both of my babies are offical therapy dogs and we visit a local nursing home and schools as much as we can. |
I take my chihuahua everywhere(Except the cinema though I want to take her once but I know she will bark) I think I will do the same with Sophie |

We can't sneak Sophie because she will bark at times. We had quite a time with her in her carrier while we were in Estes Park. She barked at all the other dogs and tried to jump out of the carrier. We finally gave up and used the leash in Vail. But there she barked again! At home we only take her if she is allowed. Last week we were told that now that Menards carries groceries, no dogs will be allowed. :( I heard that a lady I know here in town who had three Yorkies was asked to leave Hobby Lobby once. |
Layla comes everywhere except restaurants, for the obvious reason! she is so good in her carrier. yesterday we went to the mall and to a fabric store... she's even come into an ice cream shop with me! not a peep out of her! |
I take Lillybelle most of the time...she is just devasted if I get my keys to go somewhere and don't take her. She knows the the difference - when we are getting out of the car and I say, "lets get your 'shhh purse' rather than her regular purses". I have taken her in restaurants in her "shhh purse" if they dont have an outdoor patio...but I dont like too, because I dont like to break rules..but sometimes...like on vacation...there really is just no choice...she's quiet as a mouse ...(acts better than my own boys did when they were young and in a restaurant and is probably cleaner, no coughing, sneezing, spilling, running,). If she is in her "shhh purse", we try not to go anywhere that we have to stay very long. Dont think I would take her to a movie though...she would be too traumatized--it would be way too long and way too LOUD. We trained her on her "shhh purse" at home...in short intervals with praise, and treats when she was young, and I give her treats on occasion still and she has chew toys in her purse to keep her busy. Good luck with your little one and have fun! |
