Are tarantulas poisonous to dogs?

I thought the same thing!!! I thought they were in Australia or somewhere like that. I have a hard enough time in Georgia with snakes...never mind a tarantula!! If they live here in Georgia too...please don't tell me!!

I cant take any kind of spider I would freak if I saw those. My Husband had one as a pet when he was a kid

My thinking is if it can be walked on a leash it's no longer an insect...that is an animal....tarantulas are animals .....

It's really nothing for me to see these boogers crossing the road out in the country where I live.... probably see one every other day but it's not that common to see them in my yard and especially on my porch. Last summer I saw one walking on the grass in the yard and the girls caught it in a jar and watched it for a few days. Kinda neat but not the kind of thing I want to step on or have crawl on me! My office-mate tells me that she used to live in Granbury (close to Ft. Worth) and there were tons of taratulas there for some reason.

Actually, I think I know you. Do you work at Wiggles and Wags?? And you bring Lacy to work with you? If that's you, I think I even told you once about YT. Glad you decided to join up. Oh, but to answer your question, I live in Brenham and work in College Station at A&M.

They say that a tarantula bite is like a wasp sting. Don't know though...never been bit by one nor do I have any intentions of testing one out. My dad use to have one as a pet when I was younger. *SHUDDERS*

Either way, I'm quite sure that it could be hazardous to a small yorkie and would check with your vet to be on the safe side.
