I have a siberian husky but he is really old but they get along great. i would worry about a bigger breed puppy with my yorkie though. |
a lab is great for a yorkie pal but I dont know how one would live in a condo. I have a 90 lb lab that is super with both my yorkies but she gets stir crazy if she is inside too much, I think they are a bit large but SUPER! d |

I've heard some horror stories about crazy beagles.. You'd probably have to be very sure about the breeding... |
Labs are pretty gentle and laid back - again, if there is good breeding. What about a yellow lab? Or a golden retriever - they love everyone and everything! |

I have always had large breed dogs (great danes) and would love to have one again. but I am actually just scared at this point...maggie is just too little. and she is nearly 5 lbs. you have a tiny baby. I would be very careful in your selection. Maybe you can get a rescue that is already full grown and not so hyper. The larger dogs may be super sweet but when they are puppies, simply playing can lead to a tragic accident. and it just isn't worth that risk. I have heard that German Shephards are very gentle and great with smaller dogs...but again. as a puppy, they don't realize how big they are and can do some serious damage. whatever you do, just keep a close eye on her :) Mandee |
I would go with a boxer or a lab. Although I don't have either, both of those breeds (which are on your bf's list) get along really well with my Tucker at the dog park. Just my experience....hope it helps! :) |
I have an English Mastiff, he and my Yorkie get along great. My English Mastiff is such a big baby, and of course my Yorkie rules. |
I vote schnauzer, or cocker, or mutt from the pound. |
My suggestion would be not necessarily look for a certain breed but to go to the shelter or go to petfinder.com and try to find a dog that is good with other dogs. In every breed there are dogs that are good with other dogs - particularly small ones and ones that aren't or want to play too rough. In my house my 45 lb pit bull does fantastic with Slade even when he was only 1.5 lbs. With our yorkie-chi mix thats only 13 lbs I have to supervise b/c she is just too rough. I have a friend with two boxers. One is great with small dogs and understands they are small and plays gently. The other one can't be trusted with any dogs under 20 lbs bc he loves to play and be rough and just doesn't understand that they are small. |
My son and his wife have a Boston Terrier and it gets along great with Seth and Sasha. My brother has a cocker and he gets along great with them too. Good Lluck:D |
Just go to the shelter and get a big goofy lab. Labs are wonderfully sweet natured and if you rescue you can already see the adult personality and introduce them and make sure they get along. Mine (6 & 12 pounds) get along fine with the 50 & 80 pound labs next door. DO NOT get an Australian Shepherd unless one of you runs or hikes regularly. Just like a Border Collie these dogs need some SERIOUS daily exercise. It doesn't matter that you have an apt vs. house because backyard activities are not sufficient anyway. You need to RUN those dogs. I have met gentle, sweet dobermans and boxers but also headstrong, rough ones. I would not suggest getting a puppy of any kind where you will not know the final temperament and personality. Plus, a big dog puppy would be far too rough even when they are small. I know that Loki prefers adult labs to lab puppies, even though the lab puppies are his size. |
Lab or Golden Retriever. |

I have three, and besides being wonderful dogs, energetic, smart, and very loving...they are all great with Wobie! I was worried about them, especially my biggest boy Cirrus, because he is so energetic, and I thought he might play too rough, but this is not at all the case! They are so intelligent that they know when to play gentle, with human little ones, and my Wobie, without me even telling them to! I'm going to find some pictures as an example...:D |
