| where to put the tatoo I need some opinions please.Remy will be going in for her spay operation soon and I will have her tatooed at the same time. My vet wants to put the tatoo in her ear but I would prefer to have it done on the inside of her thigh. My feeling is that her ear is very small and the tatoo wouldnt be very readable, plus it would look unsightly. On the thigh they can do it a little larger so that it is readable, it would be easy to find and it wouldnt be staring you in the face.My vet says only breeders tatoo on the leg and no one looks there any ways so the tatoo would be useless. SOOOO! give me your thoughts and opinions please Thanks Eileen |

| I would go with the microchip as well. Most shelters and vets I know check for microchips but very few look for tattoos. Slade has a tattoo on his underside, but thats only to ID that he has been neutered.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | One of my dogs is tattooed from Germany; he is also microchipped. All the rest of my biewers and others are microchipped--I don't think many shelters or vets would look for a tattoo on the hip unless it is visible on the ear. I would stick with the microchip. |

| I got Hallie when she was 2.5 and she was already tattooed inside her ear. She is almost 6 now and the tattoo is hardly visible anymore. When I got her I had her micro-chipped for safety. |

| microchip I had Lacy microchipped (AVID) and one of my cats microchipped with Home Again. I decided to register Lacy's chip with Home Again as well. I think most places now have a chip reader.

| Sounds like you have already decided, but I have read that the thigh is a better place because if she were stolen by unscrupulous people they could cut her ear off, but wouldn't her thigh. It is also more visible on the thigh.

| Tuc and Ry were tattooed in the ear when they were neutered . We were going to have them microchipped as well but then our cocker took sick and the extra $ went to her vet bill . Hopefully we will get the BOYS chipped soon . |
