I I the only one confused here? the main post said the meet location was in Kansas City Kansas. I am going through the thread and I see Kansas City MO.

I am really confused.. is the location not really chosen yet? Either way i would be excited... but it would be nice to know one way or the other.

Kansas City is all one big mass of area, however, it spans over State Line. That's why there is Kansas City, MO and Kansas City, KS. To clear up any confusion on where the meet-up is...it will be in Kansas City, MISSOURI!!!!! Kansas City, KS was originally mentioned because KS is considered the middle of the US, but KCK (what us Missourians call Kansas City, KS) is not as nice an area as KCMO. Also, MCI (the airport you'll need to fly into for people who are flying) is in North Kansas City, MISSOURI! We began discussing hotels that were technically in Overland Park, KS because that is actually a nicer area even than KCMO, but none of the hotels would have us (they all LOVE Yorkies, but they won't let us bring them to their hotels ), so after all the Overland Park hotels didn't work out, we began discussing that the next nicest area is the Country Club Plaza in KCMO, and now Marci is looking into hotels there that will have us AND our furbabies!!!! The Plaza is also a bonus because there is dog-friendly shopping within walking distance, whereas you would've needed a car to get most anywhere if we'd had it in Overland Park (and that's a concern for people who are flying in). So, for anyone traveling to the meet-up, it will be in Kansas City, MO, and if you'd like to Mapquest your drive to the general Country Club Plaza address for now since we don't know which hotel will be "the winner", you can map the intersection:

W 47th St & Broadway St
Kansas City, MO 64112

Thanks! to me they are different.. IF they were the same the original choice of city would have stayed the same lol
I am sorry that most people thought that KS was ghetto, thas kinda sad.
KC MO is gonna be a better choice for you guys anyway in my opinion not because its less ghetto, but it would have more attractions than KC Kansas.

Thanks for the update

Kisses!

yes i know that i have family in both places and have been to both many times... and since they are in two different states i said they are two different places...no confusion here. I just was confused by the fact that instead of Kansas people were saying MO, when in fact they are two different Cities that share history.. Like i said if they were generally considered on big place divided by a line i don't think the original post saying that the location was KCK would have changed... and no would would been worried about how much more ghetto one was from the other..

Kisses!

Kansas City is just so big that there are "ghetto" parts througout, just like there are in any city. Unfortunately, KCK has a rep for being mostly "ghetto" (and much smaller than KCMO), but there are plenty of "ghetto" places in KCMO as well that I wouldn't venture into during the day...much less at night! But, the Plaza (and the majority of Kansas City) is nice, so no worries there. Sorta like St. Louis...it's a great city, but everyone says if you venture into East St. Louis, you're taking your life into your own hands. Every city has its bad parts! Doesn't make it a bad city!!!!

KC doesn't have a rep for being ghetto, it has a rep for having a nice black population and a good concert venue. I am black so thas why i think its really sad that ghetto was brought up. when i think of ghetto i think of people referring to area's where there are poor black people depending on ur income level. wheather it be in ST Louis Kansas or even Puerto Rico (which my moms cousin described as ghetto) Good planning would make a trip to any city a great experience. I love KCK more cause my favorite relatives are there. they have awesome shopping and the party scene is also awesome. It would be even better if you guys actually had someone in the area to check things out and do a walk through on whatever you have scheduled. You probably already do have someone to do that.

I am excited either way and maybe I will see a side of KC MO through ur eyes that I never saw lol

I agree with you! That's why I put "ghetto" in parenthesis because that's what everyone calls it - I don't even know if it's a real word. It certainly isn't my word! I'm an auditor for HUD's Office of Inspector General, and I worked in KCK before I moved to SoCal a couple years ago. I lived in a suberb of KCMO for 23+ years, but I worked over State Line in the KCK HUD-OIG office, and then I transferred out here a couple years ago and do the same thing out here only for the LA office now. I've audited many housing authorities in my day and seen all the "ghetto" areas. I've dealt one on one with lots of people while conducting inspections of their houses to make sure HUD is keeping their Housing Quality Standards up the way the federal regulations require them to, etc., and everyone has been sooooo nice to me. It's really an interesting job because you get to talk to so many people!

As for the walk-through you mentioned, we are not making plans anywhere that we haven't personally been to before, and my mom (who also has a Yorkie, and is a member of YT) has offered to check out anything we need her to in advance of our arrival, so no worries there! The hardest part we're facing is making sure we can do our activities with our babies, as so many people don't allow them in their facilities!!!!

P.S. - BTW - You mentioned Puerto Rico...I think Puerto Rico has the BEST food! And I just have to say that because my husband and I talk about it ALL the time! We stayed overnight in Puerto Rico last year, and we ate as much food as we could get our hands on because it was soooooooooo yummy! I have a friend in Puerto Rico that was going to play travel guide for my husband and I for the 2 days we had there before moving on, but it turns out he had to be "on the other side of the island" that weekend, so it didn't work out. I'm so excited to go back and EAT though! LOL! Have you eaten at Cafe del Angel? It was delish!!!!! Sorry to get off topic!!!

yall got everything covered so thas awesome... I think I should be in Omaha this summer so i plan on coming. I am gad u got history in KC because i know it sucks when i am planing a business trip and the hotel is way out of the way or crappy but looked sooo good in the picture online, u know?

Yeah PR can be an awesome place if you plan your trip. I know most people don't know that there is the biggest space observatory(i think in the world) in Areceibo. It has a Huge satellite dish. A little research and planning can make even a one week trip anywhere a lot more exciting. No I don't think i have been to cafe del angel, but i been across the street to my neighbors house (casa de abuela lol) and her food is soo awesome i don't need to even go to restaurants lol.

That will be awesome if you can come! While you're in Omaha, you should check out the Henry Doorly Zoo! It has an amazing aquarium (my fave are the penguins)! We're hoping to have a HUGE turnout to the meet-up. It will be so wonderful to finally put faces with everyone's names. And can you imagine how much fun it will be to have SOOOO many Yorkies in one spot ! Heaven! I can hardly wait!

Oh, and yes...I have to travel with my job, and I've had MANY times where the hotel pics look great, and you get there and it's a HUGE disappointment! I'll be in KC for 2 weeks for Christmas, so I can even check things out then if needed. Only the best for our furbabies (well...ok...the best "affordable" can buy )!!!

(Again...as an off topic side note...I read about the space observatory at the hotel, and we tried to book a tour to go there through the hotel, but the timing didn't work out with our limited time on the island...next time!)

I grew up in Omaha(32 years worth of torture lol) I used to buy a zoo pass each year and go to the zoo with my son every other week during the year. thas how awesome that zoo is. I also did Sunday Baseball games across the street at Rosenblat Stadium as well as the college world series each year. I just recently moved to PR a year and 9 months ago. Next is Quebec.
I am really sick of PR sooo i am really glad that the meet up in KC falls during a time when i plan to actually be back in NE. I will actually be back around Christmas because i need to catch the fall semester at UNO so I can finally get my degree.

I would really like to hang out with yall and have fun with all the Yorkies as well.
