Vets are not necessarily the best source of info about narmalcies in individual breeds. The info on here will be more correct when it comes to non-medical concerns. I learned about eye flash the expensive way a long time ago. I hauled 3 dogs and pics to the vet demaning he find out the cause of the different colors in their eye flash. About $125.00 and I parted company with no anser. A breeder looked at the pics and was spot on with the coat texture. Warm colors-(orange, red, gold, yellowish)wooly coats; cool colors-blues, grens, aquas..silky coats.. Not an old wives tale!! p.s. ALWAYS ASK TO SEE THE REG PAPERS ON ANY PUPPY YOU ARE CONSIDERING BUYING. If the breeder is not local you can bet your paycheck that puppy is either from a mill or commercial breeder.. |
Anyone else have puppymill guilt feelings? Janine & Jack-Welcome! You are lucky you found YT before you bought a pup!! I have read every reply and I'm sitting here having guilt feelings! The story behind our Pippa is that our daughter's boyfriend gave her to Alyssa for Christmas-talk about the wrong kind of gift/bad timing/impulse buy! He didn't even ask us if it was ok to give her a dog (in our dog-less home). Of course the minute I saw her I was in love. I had never been a dog person-but boy I am now. Anyway, he bought her from a lady who met him half way to pick her up-he drove 2 1/2 hours to get her. She was 13 weeks old and weighed all of 2 lbs. I took her to the vet the next day. She had kennel cough and had to take amoxicillin for 10 days. The vet suspected she was probably in a puppy mill with lots of other dogs. Boy did I feel bad!! Still do. I want another Yorkie, but this time it will come from a reputable breeder-I want the breeder to check me out thouroughly. I shudder to think what kind of home Pippa could have ended up in-this lady didn't ask any questions and sold her for $500.00 because she was the runt. On the size standpoint, Pip is probably full grown now(11 months old) and only weighs 3 lbs and about 8 oz. If other tinies are like mine, they are picky eaters and it is a constant battle to make sure she gets enough to eat everyday. I worry that she's not eating enough constantly. Thank heaven for Nutrical! Good luck in your search. You will be happy you made the decision you did. Tiffany & Pippa |
