| Now that Summer is coming.... This will be my first summer being a yorkie Mommy. How do you protect your babies from the sun? Are yorkies prone to sunburn? Is there a sunblock that you can yorks? Mickey and I spend a lot of time outdoors.... any advice is appreciated!

| I was curious about heat & our yorkies so I posted some info before that I came across in my search...I also found a few sites that said not to cut their hair so it's close to the skin because it will burn ....this is all I had for ya I was looking up heat exhaustion / heat stroke & came across some interesting info: 1) Dogs don't sweat, they inhale through their nose, the excess body heat is picked up & it's expelled through their mouths, that's why they pant 2) When it's only 72 degrees outside the inside of your car is already about 20 degrees hotter. 3) A dogs normal body temp. is 101-102, when their body temp. reaches about 105 damage can begin. 4) When it's 80 degrees out it can climb to 102 degrees inside of your car in about 10-15 min, cracking the windows does NOTHING to help. 5) Even if your home in the yard, if it's hot enough they can still suffer from heat, & a hot & humid day is of more concern. 6) Only 10- 15 min. of exposure can cause damage or death in your pet. Some signs of trouble: Rapid, frantic panting Wide eyes Bright red tongue Vomiting Staggering Diarrhea Refusal to obey commands Coma Here's a link for more info: http://www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-...illnesses.html __________________

| i am not worried about it because i don't like to be out in the sun and the heat so of course now neither does romeo! he is used to life inside in the cool air. if you let him outside and he feels it is too warm he does his little business and comes back to the door to be let in! he does not take off to go play at all and his little tongue is hanging and he is panting! if we are outside and comfortable and yet he feels it is too warm he goes and lays in my canna lilly's to play! they are not that tall - maybe 18 inches - but tall enough that they provide him with the shade he needs when he wants it.
