| Does anyone elses dog not play? All maggie wants to do is sit up against me if i'm sittin watching tv, or if i'm on my pc, she just wants to lay in her bed behind me or lay on the rug beside my chair. if I raise up out of my chair she hits the floor and follows me where ever I go. she likes to go outside and lay around. sometimes she will run and chase a squirrel or a bird but for the most part she lays in the grass or on the deck or front porch. she is scared of things that rattle like, welllll, most anything, plastic, paper etc. she totally embarrasses me sometimes around people. and she is the same way even with just us. if you walk towards her or start to pick her up, she lays down on her stomach like she is scare to death your coming to beat her. if we take her places in the truck she will not hardly move in the seat of the truck and in her car seat, she mostly lays down. she wont stand up and look out unless she is in my lap and i hold her up and she feels my hands on her. Yet she will beat us to the back door to go and loves riding. But I feel bad that she just lays there and rides and sees just inside. But she is so loving and cuddly and she has spells she will play with a toy maybe for 10 minutes and thats mainly if I say go play with your toys and i wont let her in my chair. This dog has never ever been hit or anything other than loved and petted even by anyone that comes to our house. Everyone pets her and thinks she is pretty so how do you get them out of being scared of everything or does anyone know? I've tried everything but she still just looks like she is cowarding down when you start towards her. i've just never seen another dog like her, but if I take her outside the fenced in area she runs like the wind everywhere but she's doing good about coming back to me when she gets very far away and I call her. I just wish she took more of an interest in playing with her toys. she will be one year old Monday. I throw toys for her and squeek them and she runs the other way. not because she is scared of them its just the way she plays. she likes to paw at me and me take my hands and act like we're just hitting each other. she uses her paws like a cat. she hits the ball and jumps around when it rolls but thats her way of playing with it. shes just strange.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Bengi plays all day long! Maybe it's just her personality. Still, maybe if you take her to the dog park or a play date she will play more. Also, sometimes dogs go through different stages and they may change later. Maybe she doesn't play with you because she's not used to. Bengi plays with me, hubby, great-grandma, but not with gradma, because she kinda never palys with him, so he doesn't looks for her when he wants to play but goes with her when he wants to lay down and cuddle. |

Maggie use to play with the other dog we had some, but only tug of war and then the other dog got so much rougher than maggie she started hiding from her. soooooooo, but I love her like she is. I just want her to enjoy playing more with her toys. But she isnt hyper, and that I can live with.

| maggie will get so excited sometimes when different people come in or especially when we have left her for a while (maybe just and hour or less) once we come in, she starts the laying down but shes so excited she cant be still and she actually lays down and tries to run around so much till she is actually crawling all over the floor with excitment and sometimes she will dribble just a little bit. I've learned, as soon as I walk in and she meets me at the door to tell her go on out and tee tee. or i'll pick her up and set her out and shut the door for a few minutes and sometimes she'll pee then come back in but if she doesnt even pee, she is calmer when she comes in then I pick her up and pet her and hubby always picks her up if he doesnt have his hands full of other things where he can. Dr just said nothing I could do about it but hope she outgrows it. he said some will quit doing the dribble thing later. Its just her personality.

| LOL-my 3 yr old is that way...a bit anyway. She will run around and play sometimes, but it is for a short time and then she's done! If I open the patio door and tell her to come out, she will RUN down the stairs and to the lawn as fast as she can! And then jumps down to the patio and to the next area of lawn! But mostly, she gets annoyed when the puppies try to play with her!! HAHA! And those 2 play non-stop! (the puppies)

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I think cowering comes with the territory of being a tiny dog. There are a lot of big scary things out there. She should get better. Be sure kids aren't allowed to pick her up at will. That can be scary. Jack still cringes from me when I go to pick him up. He runs away, spins around and finally slinks up to me and backs in. Weird, but he's probably been picked up too many times when he didn't want to be. As for playing, it sounds like Maggie has her own style. You can teach fetch by tossing something that she wants (a kong with peanut butter inside) and then getting her to drop it to get a better reward (a treat). Well, that's the theory anyway.

| Jake plays ALL the time and LOVES toys, but he does the same cowering down thing that you explained sometimes. I think it's because these dogs are so little, they're just intimidated by everything.....think of how huge everything must look to them. I think just socializing them more and letting them play with other dogs makes things easier for them. I know what you mean about how it looks like they've been mistreated, the way they cower down. But, Jake is definitely a very spoiled little guy so I think it's just his small size. I'm sure Maggie is the same. Maybe we look like giants to them lol. From the videos I've seen of Maggie, it looks like she does really well outside. I'm sure she will get over her fears. Jake has gone from being scared and shaking outside to running and hopping around all over the place. I think the smaller breeds are just different so don't worry. |

Donating YT 11K Club Member | I think it may just be her personality. Teddy has a very playful personality and can play for hours but he's always been like that ever since he first came. He will take a toy and run away from me and never let me catch him, that's just how he is. London is playful too but she has a different personality. She plays when she wants to play and mostly wants a toy Teddy has.

| Need Advice, TOO Emmy has just started acting somewhat like that. She plays hard at night, but the rest of the time, she just kinda slinks around. The thing that is bothering me, though, is that she just started the cowering down thing. She has also started running from me, like I am big and bad. I can promise you, all I ever do is love on her (and so does everyone else)--even when she makes the occasional (or rather often) potty mistakes. I just clean them up and continue on. Why has she suddenly became afraid?
