A Question About My Overgrown Giant Yorkies!
 

Hello, I'm new here! I joined because I have a question for all you Yorkie lovers! I have two Yorkshire Terriers. Emery just turned two years old, and Alexx is going on one. I love my doggies so much. They are the best dogs in the whole world! The thing is they are HUGE! Emery is 13 lbs, and Alexx is makin his way up there! I just don't get it...everywhere we go people have these tinsy tiny little Yorkies that are the size of Emery and Alexx's heads! :confused: I mean I love them the way they are but Alexx we were told was supposed to grow to be 5 lbs, Emy was supposed to be 8. They have long exceeded that. Emery is probably alittle overweight but not alot. He has a very slow metabolism. I realize its a product of breeding, but is this a commen thing? They are registered with the AKC. I've never seen another breed of dog like the Yorkshire terrier where they all look different. I have a webshots thing that you guys can go to, ther are pictures of them on there. They are absolute sweethearts though, no matter how big they are! Let me know what you guys think! Thanks! Okay, I too have a large Yorkie.

Do youthink it is possible that Emery might have a Westie in its lineage somewhere??? He is sooooo cute and favors my mom's Westie....

Oh my gosh they are just tooooooo cute!!!!! I don't know much about big yorkies but I know some of the members on here have bigger yorkies....Browniesmom has a big boy and I know there are others, just can't think of them now. But anyways welcome to YT!!!!!!!!

Hi Halle, your boys are so cute! Love the santa hat pix. Yorkies do seem to come in all sizes and colors. It's funny isn't it? I think as long as they are both healthy and not overweight I wouldn't worry about it. They look precious.

they are very cute yes i have a big one brownie is 3 years old and 18 pds your silver one looks like my silky terrier i think thats what you might have there both great breeds tho yours are very cute

They are both so precious! There may be a connection with the westie theory. As my husband calls westies BIG WHITE SIMBA (our yorkies name). That could be strong possibilty as westies are generally bigger than yorkies.

I'm looking at your albums ....yup ...they're big... and that means MORE to love !

They are beautiful boys and looks super happy...I have Chanel who is 10 pounds ....we went to a yorkie meet-up and I wondered if she was going to be an AMAZON against little yorkies... and some of them were the same size as her...there's lots of larger yorkies out there !

I know we usually get TOLD we are getting a yorkie in the 4-7 pound range from breeders...but I've found out - some not-so-good breeders lie...The breeder I got Chanel from has larger yorkies - (I found that out later) but they really are cute...no matter what size they are...You happen to have Jumbo sized yorkies and I can just bet they are a total blast ...

ps...I have a friend on a site that has an 18 pound beautiful girl yorkie - Now THAT's a jumbo - she doesn't have an ounce of fat - she's just big boned...and very full of life... too bad you can't hang out with her for a day -you'd think you had little itty boys next to her ! :D

This is off topic, but Villette, Chanel's smiling pictures crack me up!!!!! What a little ham! My mom's maltese smiles too. How adorable!

We just had Sophie at the vet and she weighed 10 lbs. She is only 7mths. She doesn't really seem that big she is just solid. We where told she would weigh between 3 and 5 pounds. I guess you never know but once you fall in love it doesn't matter if they weigh 40 pounds. I always say more to love. Your guys are very cute.

I wouldn't be concerned about size unless you paid for a tiny. Some breeders don't pay much attention to the standard and breed from oversized parents. If the buyer is told up front they are getting a big Yorkie and charge accordingly, I do not think it is unethical.

I have to go look at your pictures (haven't seen them yet), but when I sell my puppies I tell people that I don't know how much they will weigh. People call on the phone and say "I don't want mine to weigh more than 3 pounds full grown". and I say "I can't say for sure what a pup will weigh becuase I have no idea what you are going to feed it". I know you can tell that a runt will be the smallest, but littermates turn out so differently sometimes as adults that you can't tell they are even related. Color, weight, etc. I am surprised by them sometimes, the one I think will be the biggest may change during the 6th and 7th week and a smaller one will catch up to its size. In one litter I had, a pup weighed 3 lbs when it went, he was quite chunky, and its littermate wighed 3 pounds as an adult. This probably wasn't helpful at all.

I want to add that I do tell them how much the parents weigh. I have never had a complaint.

Thats it exactly, I really don't care about their size I was just wondering if there were other biggies out there! I wouldn't trade them for the world cuz I love them so much! Emery is very solid. Alexx is just lanky and long backed. I know for a fact that Emery is pure Yorkie, he is registered with the AKC. But also in alota those pictures the groomer gave him a westie cut :eek: We are having the HARDEST time trying to find a breeder that can cut a Yorkie cut! And the other day they got absolutley butchered, they have the worst hair cut now. We were growing Emery's pony tail out and we specifically told her NOT to cut it off, we get him back and its gone. His hair on his head is like a half inch long. She tried to tell us she left it long enough to put in a pony tail, yeah right. Anyways thats kinda off topic but, He does appears lighter in pictures I don't know why, but he is a silver color (his mother was silver) and a very light tan. Its the strangest thing though because we saw Alexx's mom and dad and his dad was about 4 lbs and I think his mom was 6 lbs. Unless, we were thinking, she didn't show us the real mom and dad but I mean I guess you never know. We kinda knew Emery was gonna be bigger because his mom looked like she was 40 lbs lol but we just fell in love with his little puppy face that we didn't care. Omg he was the cutest little puppy. I even think they were bigger when they were puppies. They were 3 lbs at 9 weeks...is that average? Oh well I'm glad you guys enjoyed them, and I'm glad you enjoyed the horse pictures too! It makes me feel better that there are other big Yorkies out there. We were beginning to think we were jinxed because we had a Wire-haired Fox Terrier for 15 years, and he was 40 lbs, not overweight! Those dogs are only supposed to b around 20 lbs. lol. Okay well this is really long! Sorry, Thanks again

All your doggies are adorable! And as far as the 18 pounder I'm sure Alexx is well on his way. I think he is like 13 lbs and he just turned one. :)

The breeder should have been able to give you some idea of the size. 3 pounds at 9 weeks is quite large..triple 8 weeks and double at 12 weeks. It is basic common sense for a breeder who has any experince at all. If your pup is 2 pounds at 8 weeks, you know it will not be 3 pounds full grown...it will no doubt be 6 pounds or so. Nothing is 100%, but I have rarely had a 12 week old go more then double their weight..never had a 2 pounder at 12 wks old turn into a 6 pounder. Had a few stay a touch smaller then the double weight.
I used to groom a male who was 4 pounds at 10 weeks when he came to me for as basth... and the breeder told the buyer it was finished growing..of course he grew for many months to come.

My Oscar is seven months and just over eight pounds. I just love him to death and wouldn't trade him for ten tiny yorkies. :)

I have a friend who has a yorkie and he's 6mths at 7.5lbs.so no doubt he'll get even bigger.But,he is the most affectionate dog I've seen yet.I have the bother from the same litter and he's only 5lbs.but not as affectionate.

Your giant yorkies are adoarable!!! They look healthy and happy and that's all that really matters!

Awww they are so cute. I have a 8 lb yorkie that came from a 5 lb momma and a smaller father. He is my little steroid boy and I love him. Living on a horse farm I am glad he is a decent size cause he can get into a lot of trouble:) at 12 weeks he weighed about 3 lbs. Your boys are adorable and I am sure they are purebred just a bit bigger:)

THANK YOU !! It my favorite all time thing with Chanel - she learned how when my hubby was in the hospital a year ago....She would get so ESTATIC to see me when I came home from visiting him that one day I THOUGHT she was smiling - I worked with her for 4 days practicing and viola - now she smiles on command. I absolutely love seeing it like it was the first time ever....I haven't yet caught the REAL smile she does -it's blinding ! lol -

Your babies are beutiful.I have Jigzey and she is 18 pounds. Wouldnt change her for the world! She is the sweetest thing and VERY spoiled. ;)
Jigzey and Brownie look almost identical they could be twins! :lol tears

Sammi is 18 months old and 13lbs...Vet said she is not overweight, just that she is very long (19inches) and solid :)

There must be some magical connection between dog lovers and horse lovers, they seem to go together :) :) (or maybe we are just animal lovers in general) I have my yorkie,Chloe,new mommy that she is, a german shepherd pup(5 mos old she is)and a whippet. But I also have 3 quarter horses, my mare is now pregnant with the most spectacular looking Tennessee Walker that you have ever seen!! Its funny sometimes how Yorkies are looked at. The first pup picked here was the one going to be oversized. He is very pretty and sweet but is going to be a big one of maybe 8-9 pounds. His family loves him to pieces.

The small ones and large ones are easier to find homes for than what I like, the 5 pound range. LOL

I agree, their must be a connection. My moms friend has a quarter horse tennessee walker cross and it is gorgeous! She is a tobiano color, like a Paint. She is so cute. I'll have to look at your pictures! I love Quarter horses, Paints and Quarter horses have to be the best horses on earth ;)

Diva Pup: I know what you mean, I like that they are bigger for that reason too. They are more hardy! I've accidentally rolled over on Emery in bed (he growls at me and gives me a realllll dirty look) and I panic and I think omg if he was half his size I could of really hurt him.

I'm glad you all love my doggies. They went swimming in our pool today because it was 90 degrees today! We bought them these little life perserver vests from Petsmart and they just float around. We put them on a raft and they loved it. Emery acted like a Capton, he sat at the very end of the raft and his hair was blowin in the wind... and Alexx was just kinda confused but he had fun none the less. It was Ali's first time in the pool. He was a good little swimmer though! I'll talk to you later! Thanks again for all the comliments.

My Bentley was 4.9 lbs at 10 weeks. Breeder said he'd probably be around 10 lbs. as an adult. I thought I really wanted a smaller size baby, but he has really fit in with our family (2 boys, 3 & 10). Never a dull moment anyway. Was wondering if there is anybody out there from Arkansas?
