Animal Smiley 019 Easy way or Hard way? + vent. blah

i dont even know why im really posting this. i know the answer.
well, i STILL dont have a puppy. and right now, i have 2 choices

1) i found a great breeder, and her next litter is being BORN june 28. plus then id have to wait 10-12 weeks to actually get the puppy. plus the puppy is $1250 + $200 shipping. that 1450$ plus waiting for like 100 years.

2) i was just browsing my local paper. and there it was "YORKIE PUPPIES" FOR SALE. READY NOW. Its just an average lady and her 2 average dogs had a litter. they are $800, theres the size thing and the health thing but then i could have a puppy RIGHT NOW. shes just an example, but wouldnt it just be easier to get a puppy locally?

i know #1 is the OBVIOUS choice. but i dunno, im just so anxious. like i just want a puppy. i dont want to seem like that little girl from charlie & the chocolat factory but.. I WANT ONE RIGHT NOW! :P i know #1 is the choice and ill just have to wait. but FINALLY since im ready to get a puppy, NO BREEDER SEEMS TO HAVE ANY! so im gonna have to wait.. yet again.

the breeder i found is great. but so are alot of breeders, i just cant find any with puppies right now, in my price range. (less than $2000)
and im looking for a little girl, which makes things that much harder.

I know MANY people have found great dogs from newspapers, but SIZE is very important to me. No offense at all to anyone with a teapot, they are precious. but its VERY important that i end up with a small dog. i need to be able to take this dog to college, not to mention in a carrier everywhere else i go.

Sorry for the vent. im just like frustrated at the world right now.
i remember when evreything was going smooth. I had great grades, my birthday was coming up, my boyfriend was getting me a puppy, my parents were proud of me. and all of a sudden. that all went to hell. my grades are good at most, my boyfriend and i broke up, i still dont have a puppy and my parents think im the worst kid in the world.
blah.. i cant wait til college.

Anyways, my final questions.

1) does anyone know any good breeders in miami or that ship that have puppies available now or soon? for less than $2000

ps: my future college does accept dogs under 7 pounds and that must be more than 2 years old and have lived with me for more than 1 year.

Have you looked for a slightly older puppy from a show home?? Sometimes they keep a puppy thinking that they will show them and then they decide that they don't want to show that dog for whatever reason(ie. didn't do well in the ring, stayed too small, etc.). That's really the only way to guarantee size...My yorkie only weighed 1lb 2 oz when I got him at 12 weeks, and he's 11lbs now. According to the charts, he should have been 3-4 lbs....I'm glad he's bigger though because he has had some serious health issues, and I think being a bit bigger has helped him, but if size is that important, then I would definitely get a puppy that's at least 6 months old. We got our 2nd dog (a maltese)when she was 7 months old, that way she had all the characteristics we were looking for. She was pretty close to the size that she would end up at, and she was exactly what we wanted. No guessing games. Plus, when we got her, she had already had all her shots, microchipped, spayed, etc. And she bonded very quickly with our yorkie and my husband and me.

lol you are too cute..but I feel ya on this one!! I don't know what to tell you..for me I would want to wait til I found a local breeder and research their litters and not have to have a puppy shipped. Do they ever have dog shows in your area?? Maybe you could at least meet a breeder there?? or how about finding one that is maybe a couple of hours drive vs having one shipped..And since you don't want a big dog looks like the local nice lady is out!!! Be Patient ....something will come your way...we don't want you being like Baruka and end up down the shoot looking for the golden egg!! lol

The most important thing in buying a puppy is to get one from a good breeder who you know you can trust and that you get a healthy puppy with a health guarantee. I know you want a puppy NOW, but if you just settle for any puppy from any breeder, you may end up with one that isn't healthy or isn't exactly what you wanted, and then you're going to end up being unhappy with your choice.

I know how hard the wait is. I searched for months before I found Jake. He was only about 3 weeks old at the time, but I knew he was what I wanted because it just felt "right". The wait was excruciating, but he was well worth the wait because I got a very healthy puppy who was exactly what I was looking for. He is 10 months old now, and he's the sweetest little guy and has such a good disposition and is soooooo smart. I can't imagine my life without him, he has brought a tremendous amount of joy to our home. And, I have become good friends with his breeder, we stay in touch all the time.

My advice to you is don't rush into anything just because you want it now. Be patient and go with a breeder you know you can trust. Check the "yorkies for sale/wanted" section on this site daily, and post what you're looking for there, and maybe someone will contact you. The right puppy will come along. In the meantime, use the waiting time to read all you can on yorkies and buy the things you will need. Shopping for them is so much fun!

Good luck!!

I got both of mine from my local newspaper. As long as you see the parents and see how they are taken care of and kept then I really don't see a problem with it. But, if you get any weird vibes when looking at the puppies go with your instinct and leave. Oh, yea another clue I look at is see how patient the breeder is with you and come with alot of questions and see how she/he answers them.

I agree with Yorkieluv...I got Betty at 11 weeks and she weighed 2 lbs. According to the chart, she should have been around 5 lb full-grown. Well, she is 7 months old and almost 8 lbs...and still growing. The only way to assure that you will have a smaller Yorkie, is to get one that is older...maybe 6 months or so.

You can not guarantee the size for sure. Both my babies I also got from the local paper. My Cody does weigh 15 lbs but also according to the charts he should only be about 6 lbs. However I too am glad that he ended up being bigger because of my boys. I actually tell people that I think he is bigger in self defense

My new girl I just got her a couple months ago was $800. I went and met the lady and saw her home and saw the parents. I actually talked to her on the phone for a few days before I went and saw the house and the pups. I got a very good vibe from her and she is just the nicest person. I actually still talk to her via email and I send pictures. We talk about all sorts of things.

IMO if you are not interested in showing the dog and if champion lines are not important to you and you just want a pet. Then go local. An $800 yorkie is just as loveable and cuddly as as $1200 one. Not trying to offend my any means so please don't take it that way. But if you think you want to "show" or if the "champion lines" are important then by all means find a reputable breeder for your baby.

Don't get me wrong though there are plenty of nice and good people out there who are not "breeders" who take care of their pups and just want them to find great homes.

Oh, I'm sorry if you took my post wrong...

The reason I said a "show" home has Nothing to do with champions or champion lines... My reason for saying show home is because many times show breeders keep their dogs longer in hopes of showing them...Whereas a regular breeder usually starts selling them at 12 weeks. If she's worried about size, a show home will most likely have an Older puppy because they keep them longer in hopes of showing them, but sometimes it doesn't work out.

OH No Yorkieluv!! I didn't take your post wrong. I was just giving my opinion about the question. I agree with you. If she wants a small baby for sure then yes an older one is the way to go.

I was just saying unless she WANTS TO SHOW that I don't see the point in spending the extra money.(Unless of course the bloodlines (champion and stuff) is important to her.) Use that extra money for all the things the little baby will need. Cause we all know that they need tons of stuff

Okay Cool Phew! LOL I thought maybe my post came across wrong. It's so hard to tell how things read when you're typing. It's hard to express meanings sometimes, ya know?

Yes, these babies do require lots of stuff!! Beds, clothes, toys, the list could go on forever!

I bought both of my boyz from ads in the newspaper...they're both AKC, small, healthy and they were reasonably priced at $725.00 and $500.00. Jo didn't come with a health guarantee, he was more of a rescue, but Riley did come with a 1 year guarantee. I know hobby breeders are not popular on YT but if they have healthy dogs and they don't have a housefull, if they're not breeding every cycle, if things are clean and everything is in order I don't see anything wrong with buying from an ad in the paper...not everyone can be a show home. My boyz are now 2 and 2 1/2, healthy at 4 pounds each and beautiful.

Good luck with your decision...you have to make the one that feels right for you.
