| Advice please from from new yorkie owner Hello everyone, I joined this forum 2 weeks ago (haven't posted yet just been reading!) when I got my new yorkie puppy at 8 weeks old, he is now 10 weeks (he is my first yorkie...and our only dog, actually he is a yorkie-Apso, his Mum was a Lhasa Apso and his Dad was a yorkshire terrier) his name is Skampi Starlight. Anyway I'm a bit worried because today he started crying while he was having a poo and straining & rubbing his bottom along the floor (he has been wormed & had vet check up) I read in yorkshire terriers for dummies (a book I read about on this site and ordered & have just started reading) that their puppy poop can get stuck to the long hairs around their bottom so I checked and that is what has happened so tonight he has had his first bath, he is all georgous and fluffy & groomed & clean. I noticed that a little bit of pink skin (like a tiny ball) is protruding out of his anus, is this normal due to the straining? Or a prolapse or hernia or something? Do I need to get this checked out at the vet? He is normal in himself after his bath, playing & eating & drinking etc but has not *been* yet. He eats burns mini bites plus I have cooked chicken, white fish, minced beef & scambled egg for him and he loves all the home cooked food. Any advice appreciated Skampismum |

Be sure of your vet and don't let anyone do surgery it is not required. You could try massaging a little vaseline on it to keep it moist and apply a little pressure to put it back in. Keep the hair around the anus trimmed. Check it often to be sure they aren't caught up again.

| Thanks for the advice Thankyou for the advice Lorraine. I did exactly what you said...used the vaseline & saw the vet the next day. By the time I had got to the vet it had gone & he told me I'd done the right thing with the vaseline. He thinks it was the minced beef I had given him & that Skampi most probably has a senitive tummy. All week I have fed him Burns mini bites, cooked chicken, steamed white fish, natural yogurt and mashed & sweet potato he has loved all his food and he has been fine. |

It can happen so easily and sometimes doesn't get noticed right away. He may not be able to handle minced beef so best to stick with what he is doing well on.
