Has Anyone Rescued A Yorkie For A Pet Hi everyone, I am back to let you know that in November I went to buy a male Yorkie. When I arrived the breeder had one male and one female. I saw the mother and the father and the place was spotless. I sat down in a chair a saw this little dog in the corner shaking. I looked at her and asked about her and the breeder told me that she came to her thru a woman that rescued her from another breeder. In plain words the 2 year old female yorkie had never had a home and was passed from breeder to breeder. My breeder was looking for a home for her. BINGO. I looked over at her and since she never had a name I called her Lola. She came over to my lap and sat there for 4 hours. Needless to say I took her with me right to my vet and basically her eyes were infected and swollen shut, her ears had an infection so deep that the vet said it would take a lot to get her healthy. I said do everything she needs because she is mine forever. Five months later which is today, My Lola is the most amazing loving gorgeous little love bucket I ever saw in my life. If I had known that rescuing would be this gratifying I would have done this before over and over again. I don't even want to tell you what it cost to put her back together but no money in the world could of given me a better dog than her. People look into rescuing because they are so grateful and wonderful life is not the same with out my Lola now. |
What a lovely post, and a great story. Bless you for giving this little girl a chance at a good life. We adopted our Bernie from a rescue. It's been the greatest experience, and we will definitely rescue from now on! |

Oh my gosh, I think you were ment to be there. To see Lola and rescue her. What a great Yorkie mommy you are for everything you have done for that sweet girl. :aimeeyork :) I just recently rescued a almost 3 year old Shih Tzu. Rescuing does make you feel good inside and the love you get in return is just the icing on the cake.:love: Bless you for rescuing Lola and giving her a great forever home. :angel2: |

Wow, you have truly done a wonderful thing. And Lola will appreciate you for ever. I have a yorkie that came directly from a puppy mill - he's lived in a cage for his entire life. He got here on December 30th, after four months, he's come such a long way...but he still has some issues we're working on. He is house trained now - yipee!!!!:D That's a biggie!! |

Lola's story sounds a lot like my precious Chester's (avatar photo). I rescued him off the street and spent at a minimum, $2500.00 over two years to nurse him back to health. He was 10-12 when I found him and we had the most wonderful five years together. I still ache for him, but have my two girl angels with me now. As much as I love my two girls, and will most likely love a few more in my lifetime, no dog will EVER be as special as Chester. He was, in my life, the most perfect pet. You will never regret what you're doing. My door is open 24/7 to rescues. I promise you, that dog knows what you've done for her and will have a bond with you she never knew possible. Your life is forever altered and the two of you are so lucky to have found each other. Your story makes me miss my Chester so very much. I truly hope you have many wonderful years together. |

I bought Tara as a 6 week old puppy. I decided when she was three to get her a wee pal, as I was sure she thought she was the only tiny dog alive, lol, at 4lbs ! I bought Casper, then 19 months, (also 4lbs) from a breeder who was forced to give him up very sadly as he was being attacked by other male stud dogs of hers. His nose had a scar on it, and he was so skinny, and he didn't even come over to me and my hubby once. Tara was all over them ! I told Kenny I wasn't leaving him there, and we bought him on the spot and took him home. At first all I could get him to eat was two-three biscuits, and he was soooo slow eating ! Now he eats loads but is still slow, and he doesn't put on weight. He loves Tara, and our new rescue who we bought last October. We were looking for a female puppy, but there were none available within 150 miles. Then my hubby saw an ad but hardly mentioned it when he came home from nights, thinking I wouldn't be interested. I said phone it ! He said you do it....so I did, and I told the man we'd take her and be down by lunchtime. He had said he actually had two dogs and the bigger one was gone, but he had a smaller one at 3lbs. Kenny said he'd drive, as he knows it's hard for me with my EDS to drive more than 20 mins, even though I was willing to try, so without any sleep he drove the 200 mile round trip to get her.....and we got back at 7pm, and he was back on nights with no sleep at 9pm. Tammy was tiny, shaved, and shaking, and looking up at us. We were not taken into his house(how strange !), and we gave him the money and took her. She was absolutely stinking. I nearly boked in the car, and tried to keep my other two from her. We drove 40 miles to my sisters and washed her straight away..... the poor tiny wee thing was a mess. Her ears were in tatters, and her skin was all black underneath and red raw everywhere else. She had mange and a yeast infection. (....the smell !) Like you, we spent a fortune at the vets getting her treatment. The owner had told us we shouldn't go to a vet as he didn't agree with them, and he had never taken her, as they just money grab. So we had to get her all her injections, worming, and treatments. We put her on good food, and gave her her first ever bath. She was not toilet trained at three years old, and was scared of the TV, carpet, back-door steps, everything, which made me think she was kept in his caravan or shed ! I was very surprised to find she had not been bred. I asked the owner, and I asked the Kennel Club - she has very good papers, all top champions (not that I was aware of that when I bought her) - and I checked with the Vet, and she wasn't a puppy farm dog. ......But what a mess such a high quality dog was in....shocking ! She is soooo loved, and very sweet. She sleeps over the top of Kenny's head on his pillow, like a cap ! Her hair is growing in, and is shiny and healthy...and she is now 4lbs. I still have to get one back tooth pulled sometime, but managed to do a dental on her - not easy when she was not used to it !!!! She is a :littleang Sorry this is so long....all I can say is........ Such wonderful stories of love. I also have a sweet little guy, Charlie, who came to live with me two weeks ago. He is ten years old and has seen several homes, several years of inadequate medical care. He also had demodex (mange) for years, and finally with proper medication it is clearing up. Since he is ten, I had a geriatric blood panel done and discovered his thyroid level which should be between 2-4 was 0. He is taking Soloxine 2xday, almost done with Ivermectin for demodex and probotics. His fur is beginning to fill back in at an amazing rate. Soon he will only be taking Soloxine daily. Since mange was mentioned earlier, it is important to not give steriods (cortesoids) to dogs diagnosed with demodex (mange) because it actives the mites. I would highly recommend rescuing a pup and especially a senior. Congratulations to all of us because these are the most loving pets. |
