| Just saying hello I am just signing up for Yorkie Talk and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Donna, and my husband Alan and I are the parents of a year old Yorkie named Rigger . Rigger's name comes from our hobby, which is skydiving. The person that maintains your chute is a "rigger." Our little Rigger is so much a part of our family we often laugh at ourselves! He is like a child. Not a sit in your lap and behave kind of child either! He demands CONSTANT interaction and we give it! He lights up our lives! We had Rigger neutered about two months ago and he has started to gain weight. He was right at 7 pounds and we took him in last week and he is almost 10!! Any tips on putting him on a diet will be appreciated. I have recently ordered two dog food cookbooks and will begin cooking his meals as soon as they arrive. The dog food scare has us very concerned. I hope to learn lots on this site! |

| Welcome to YT. As for the weight gain, he may not have been done growing when fhe was neutered. Can you still feel his ribs. If you can, then it was just probably natural growth. If you think he is getting ffat, I would just feed less and maybe supplement with raw carrots and such. Most yorkies can free feed and never over eat, but occasionally there will be a realy chow hound. |

| Welcome to YT!! We hope to see little Rigger pictures soon! I completely understand about the recall scares, as I am also cooking and being skeptical about everything!! Don't really know whats best for losing weight, but I'm sure others will help! Trina

| Can't wait to see Rigger, what a clever name. My Vet told me to cut back on treats. Don't give them full ones break them in quarters. Don't walk once a day but twice a day if your able. Give more play time, fetch etc. He also said, apples have lots of sugar, & they love apples. Cut back on them & give more greenbeans. Depending on what he is eating. He might not be over weight at all, he might just be a BIG boy. Yorkies come in all sizes, check his ribs, if you can still feel them he should be fine.
