I hope everything is okay with your baby!! It sounds like liver shunt, but maybe it could be hydrocephalus...The loss of balance and all that really sounds like a liver shunt. Have them do a bile acid test...It's only around $40-$50 depending on where you live, and it will let you know whether or not her liver is affected. I'll be praying for your baby, and if I were you, I would go ahead and get them both tested just for peace of mind. Some dogs with liver shunts don't show symptoms. If that's not what it is, then do a search for hydrocephalus. Here is a website that you can go to for more information...It's a liver shunt/mvd support group. Just post your situation, and everyone there is very knowledgable and helpful. Or you can look through the files section and find lots of information there too: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/L...d_MVD_Support/ |
Oh no, I'm so sorry your going through this with her :( I will be keeping little Rio in my prayers. I hope everything turns out ok. Kisses to your sweet baby :) |
Aww that precious baby. I'm sorry. Please let us know what you find out from the vet. I'm sending a prayer to little Rio right now. XOXO |
Oh No I don't have any advice for you either, but I really hope that there is nothing serious going on with your baby girl. She is adorable. We will send prayers your way. Keep us posted. |
Liver shunt is the first thing that came to mind for me. Please keep us updated on little Rio's condition. Our prayers are with you. |

First I have to say that she is a goreous girl!! Look at that face!!! OMG it is adorable!! I am sad about her condition.... I think the neurologist will be very helpful. I had to resort to a neuro with my Lexxi and we were able to determine what was wrong finally. The symtoms are different so I don't think it is the same issue. I wish you luck and really pray she is ok. Please post the results when you get them! |
Have you looked inside her ears at all? Inner ear stuff could throw her balance off. I'm hoping it is nothing more than an ear infection. Please keep me updated. Best, Ann |
rio is arround the same age and weight as my anna is. Rio is very cute. Im sorry for your problems though. maybe you should talk to the breeder you got her from and see what she says. when anna had problems with her eye the breeder helped me a great deal. |
I agree with Wiley's Mom.... Pixie walks with a little bit of an imbalance. We took her to the vet and had her checked for liver shunt, but 'thank goodness' it wasn't. It turned out to be an inner ear problem due to an ear infection she had when we got her. We knew she had an infection, and got drops, but the infection was in the inner ear and the drops did not work. We ended up putting her on antibiotics which cleared it up, but the damage was already done. But despite her imbalance, she can 'run like the wind'!!!! I have heard, but don't know if it's true, that a yorkie will learn to live with an ear infection if it's not treated. So don't go too long before getting her checked out. Definitely get her checked for liver shunt. Keep us posted. She's a doll!!! |
Have the Vet. do a bile acid test on her before he does anything else. It could save time and money. She sounds like a shunt puppy. The operation is not cheap, but in most cases successfull. Good luck to you and your baby. |
Didn't Rio come from a man who got her from Brazil? Is there any way to contact that breeder? |

I have no information, but I just wanted to offer kind words. I hope everything works out and you are able to figure out whats wrong and fix it ASAP. Good luck to you and Rio. |
Poor baby. I hope it is something minor and nothing very serious. I'm sorry I can't help any further but hopefully after a full work up the cause of her symptoms will be determined. |
Hope for the best Rio is a very cut lil thing will she get any bigger? :wavey: |
