Please HELP!!! I am really sad about my little girl..... 2 Attachment(s) Hi guys, you all know my lil girl, Rio (she's had many pictures posted of her on YT) When I got both of my yorkies, they were really really little and had a little hard time talking but Sammie grew right out of it.....he runs, walks, plays just fine.... but Rio seems to be stumbling still....poor balance, can't walk straight, falls over, etc. She is almost 5 months old and weighs 1.9 pounds She is going to see a neurologist vet next Tuesday to see if it has anything to do with her cerrebellum Anyone have the same experience?? I attached a pic of Rio so you guys know which one I'm talking about.... |
I meant "walking"....not "talking"....heehee....I wish they could talk..then I wouldn't be on here and I could just ask them what's wrong |
Im sorry i cant help you, i hope someone else can give you great advice. She is a darling little girl! |
I don't have any info for you but I hope everything checks out okay for Rio. She is darling!:animal-pa |
I hope she is ok...she will be in my thoughts! She is soo cute! |
I have no advice/experience on this either. I am keeping her in my thoughts and prayers though. She is such a darling little thing! |
Rio is absolutely precious. I have nothing to offer, but I will pray that the vet finds nothing serious with you little baby girl. I love her little face. |
it sounds like liver shunt but i am no expert. do a search on this site and put "liver shunt" in the search and read about it. |
That would really worry me and I'd get bloodwork done if I were you...She's just precious but very small ...it seems lately so many are testing pos for LS and you want to find out asap if it is. :( :( Wishing you the best and hope everything will turn out negative for problems... |
hope i can help a little hi im janis sorry i havent posted in quite sometime but ive had computer problems and had other things going on in my life, such as getting remarried lol well anyway i also lost my link but today recieved an email with the link to this group again and i remembered my password so here i am, id just like to say i hope your little girl is ok you didnt mention about her eating habits yes livershunt is a possibility for the loss of balence but usually it is acompanied with seizures and bad eating habits and lack of growth millie my yorkie bitch was 3 in december and when she was 3 months old we discovered she had problems with her balance and eating and a few other things which my vet initially was treating her for worm infestation as here in theuk livershunt in yorkies was virtually unknown but after getting no results from the worming tablets i began to trawl the net for my own solution and found the livershunt.com site and i spoke with a lot of members there mary ellizabeth was a great help and recomended me asking my vet to have blood work done which once i discussed with him the posibility of a shunt he was amazed i knew so much about it lol but the symptoms were right just reading the stories on that site made me realise just what was the matter with millie and i was devastated but we managed to get the money together in the family and we paid for millie to have the shunt operated on and it was a great success today millie is a fit and cheekly loveable little tyke she bullies her brothers and knows she is lucky to be here and has proven to us time and time again with her love and affection that she was worth every penny it isnt a cheap operation but it saves their lives so i hope that you get your little one checked out livershunt can also be managed for a time with diet but its recomended that you have them operated on if it is the operable shunt there is a shunt that is in opperable these are treated with diet there are other problems that have these symptoms also that have nothing to do with a shunt so it is best to get her to the vet and get her blood work done look at her diet and hopefully for your own peace of mind give you a happier outlook for your lttle ones to play happily with you without falling over hope this helps try www.livershunt.com web site there is a link there to a support group which im also a member hugs janis mille milo and max |
Rio is so sweet and cute! I hope you can find out what's wrong and that she will be okay! |

how scary! hey hun, I am so sorry that you even have to experience something like this... kikko used to be kind of like that, acting really puppy like and walking like he was a puppy, but he grew out of it too like sammie did. but it does sound like a good idea to do a blood work test, better safe than sorry. poor rio, she's so beautiful and adorable, she and sammy are my fav myspace buddies!... so kikko and i send lots of huges, kisses, and prayers that everything will be oky. keep us posted :( PS .... kikko saw her pic and has quite the crush now! so rio has get better b/c she's got to keep stopping all boy doggies hearts. |
I hope everything is okay with your baby!! It sounds like liver shunt, but maybe it could be hydrocephalus...The loss of balance and all that really sounds like a liver shunt. Have them do a bile acid test...It's only around $40-$50 depending on where you live, and it will let you know whether or not her liver is affected. I'll be praying for your baby, and if I were you, I would go ahead and get them both tested just for peace of mind. Some dogs with liver shunts don't show symptoms. If that's not what it is, then do a search for hydrocephalus. Here is a website that you can go to for more information...It's a liver shunt/mvd support group. Just post your situation, and everyone there is very knowledgable and helpful. Or you can look through the files section and find lots of information there too: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/L...d_MVD_Support/ |
Oh no, I'm so sorry your going through this with her :( I will be keeping little Rio in my prayers. I hope everything turns out ok. Kisses to your sweet baby :) |
Aww that precious baby. I'm sorry. Please let us know what you find out from the vet. I'm sending a prayer to little Rio right now. XOXO |
Oh No I don't have any advice for you either, but I really hope that there is nothing serious going on with your baby girl. She is adorable. We will send prayers your way. Keep us posted. |
Liver shunt is the first thing that came to mind for me. Please keep us updated on little Rio's condition. Our prayers are with you. |

First I have to say that she is a goreous girl!! Look at that face!!! OMG it is adorable!! I am sad about her condition.... I think the neurologist will be very helpful. I had to resort to a neuro with my Lexxi and we were able to determine what was wrong finally. The symtoms are different so I don't think it is the same issue. I wish you luck and really pray she is ok. Please post the results when you get them! |
Have you looked inside her ears at all? Inner ear stuff could throw her balance off. I'm hoping it is nothing more than an ear infection. Please keep me updated. Best, Ann |
rio is arround the same age and weight as my anna is. Rio is very cute. Im sorry for your problems though. maybe you should talk to the breeder you got her from and see what she says. when anna had problems with her eye the breeder helped me a great deal. |
I agree with Wiley's Mom.... Pixie walks with a little bit of an imbalance. We took her to the vet and had her checked for liver shunt, but 'thank goodness' it wasn't. It turned out to be an inner ear problem due to an ear infection she had when we got her. We knew she had an infection, and got drops, but the infection was in the inner ear and the drops did not work. We ended up putting her on antibiotics which cleared it up, but the damage was already done. But despite her imbalance, she can 'run like the wind'!!!! I have heard, but don't know if it's true, that a yorkie will learn to live with an ear infection if it's not treated. So don't go too long before getting her checked out. Definitely get her checked for liver shunt. Keep us posted. She's a doll!!! |
Have the Vet. do a bile acid test on her before he does anything else. It could save time and money. She sounds like a shunt puppy. The operation is not cheap, but in most cases successfull. Good luck to you and your baby. |
Didn't Rio come from a man who got her from Brazil? Is there any way to contact that breeder? |

I have no information, but I just wanted to offer kind words. I hope everything works out and you are able to figure out whats wrong and fix it ASAP. Good luck to you and Rio. |
Poor baby. I hope it is something minor and nothing very serious. I'm sorry I can't help any further but hopefully after a full work up the cause of her symptoms will be determined. |
Hope for the best Rio is a very cut lil thing will she get any bigger? :wavey: |
