I know how you feel, when I first took Rhapsody, I was so upset-- I was thinking that I couldn't afford a dog. She still had another round of shots to go, and I was terrified that something would happen to her, and I wouldn't be able to afford the vet bills. It motivated me to call around, and I feel I got lucky with the wonderful and very affordable vet I found! Good luck! |
I paid $65 for Nicky's spay. I had it done at the Humane Society, which my breeder had recommended. They did a great job and she was wanting to run around that night even. Nicky's vet was going to charge $175 to do the spay. You may want to check with your local Humane Society. |
:scratchhe Okay... I for one just don't get it! Spaying and Neutering is force fed at every Veterinarian's Office imaginable. But, the fees incurred are just outrageous! A procedure that would have cost me $60 by way of SNAP, Inc. (Spay Neuter All Pets, Inc.) just cost me $422.23!!! I can't complain too much I guess, since it was done on an emergency basis since she was in heat! But, the norm for what my Vet charges emergency or not adds up as follows: $300 Ovariohysterectomy - Canine <25 lbs $39 Pre-Op Blood Survey $9 Hazardous Waste Disposal (UNFREAKINBELIEVABLE!!! One would think this to be included in with the spay fees) $75 Removal of deciduous teeth ($10+ for 7 teeth!?!?) Just where do they come up with these prices...I wonder?!?! |
Are you ready for this!!?? Quote:
Lillie hasn't had a heat yet...it is going to cost me around $385.00.... for Sadie, who has had 3 heats, it's going to cost me almost $500.00!! THAT IS OUTRAGEOUS!! I am having them both done with laser but that is only $39.00 extra. If it wasn't for the fact that my vet is excellent and I worked for him many years ago (I know the treatment the animals get) I would search out another vet. I just cant believe the prices they charge..I just got pet insurance..I got it specifically to help with their spays...it is only going to cover $65.00 for each...it's better than nothing but, when you're talking $500.00 that isn't very much. |

You almost want to tell them you'll take the sh-t out yourself if it'll save you a couple of dollars! |
I just called my vet in regards to my girl getting spayed. They said it's $120 so I really would somewhere else if I were you!! |
My Murphie just got spayed yesterday and I picked her up this morning. They also pulled four baby canine teeth for a total of $229.00 and they sent her home with antibiotics. It was less than I was expecting. YAY!!! |
That's alot! I would call around. |

think it costs around 100 GBP in England which is about 200 USD |
I just had Autumn spayed in the beg. of April. My bill was $345 which included the spay, microchip, ten puppy teeth removed, pain medication/antinflamitory and and antibotic.:aimeeyork |
Hello everyone, I'm new here but I just got my Mickey neutered and I paid $ 87.00 for neuter and $47.00 cryptyo % 5.00 pain med . The pre exam blood work was all included in the neuter charge and to top it off they removed all puppy teeth for free. The vet asked me if he had any puppy teeth left and I said yeah so she said alright we'll get those while he's under. They didn't even put it on my bill. I would definately look around. |
I just paid yesterday $219, Spaying, pre blood work, teeth pulled, teeth cleaned, heart worm testing, micro chip, pain meds. I didn't think that was to bad for all they did. |
Just took Ceiba for her last shots and asked for an estimate to spay her. Breakdown is: Pre surgery bloodwork: $77 Spay: |

Which would you do? The vet that you know and trust or the low price alternative? Get another estimate from a different vet? |

Do I want to mess with a "spay clinic" ... sometimes I think itz better to be safe that sorry. And I am talking about ~~ $500 here .... but itz my baby. |
That is way too much money I think my girls were $150 each |
got a quote on spaying "Friday" I just asked my favorite vet (my regular one) how much to spay "Friday" .. and the price is 213$ plus 35$ for the meds. That includes everything, anesthesia and hospital stay overnight. So she is going in on Friday morning (how appropriate) and I shall pick her up Saturday at 11am. They have an attendant on the premises 24 hours a day. I like that a lot. And I like their stitch work from when they did "Monday" in 2003. |
If anyone knows of one in the Charles County Maryland area please let me know. thought about going to Banfield but reading all the comments, I dont want to at this point. Even though I know that with the Banfield Insurance you dont have to pay for none of the shots, spay, etc. Only thing is meds. Thanks |
I paid about $200.00 for Lexie's spaying including pre-op bloodwork as well as the removal of teeth. |

I too don't mind spending on my baby, especially when it comes to her health, but in this case I think some vets may have hiked the prices precisely because of the reason you said. They are your regular vet and you will probably be more comfortable with them so are willing to shell out the dollars. I haven't heard any horror stories with the clinics, so I'll go with that. BTW, Cali is getting spayed on Monday   I am super-nervous, but I feel good that it is getting done. And the amount I gotta pay: sixty-five buckaroos! |
My regular vet gave me a different price now, since he won't have to do the blood work b/c it was already done in a visit 2 weeks ago ... now itz going to be $213.85 and that includes the anesthesia ... then there is $35 for pain meds, .. Friday is going to have it done tomorrow .. so far no teeth removal .... I am more anxious about Friday being spayed than I was about Monday <???> |
WOW, your vet bills are so high. I live in the center of Kansas and go to my local vet that I've used for 20 some years. and he's alot less then that. I am glad I am way out in the boon docks. |

Big City Slicker doctors want the big fees. (Well, their mortgage and property taxes are so very high also) .... But we all get used to it and go with the flow. |

Hi, I just got my Bella spayed today and I paid $404.67 just for the spay alone (Breakdown: Pre-Anethesia Lab Panel $69.00, Pre-op Sedation $16.50, Gen Anesthesia $89.00, IV cath with fluids $43.90, Cardiac Monitoring $31.95, Ovariohysterectomy $95.70, Post-op pain injection $20.95, Nail trim - no charge, home med for pain - Torbutrol $21.17, Post-op hospitalization $16.50) I also have her 2 baby teeth extracted and have her Microcrip so I paid total of $501.65. I live in California. I know this is too much, I asked around. There was this vet that told me that he charge $200.00 and just dont know the coverage, if that includes everything. I already trust the vet that did my other 2 furbabies surgery(spay). She also used the sutures that is absorbable so i dont need to come back to have it removed. I hope this helps. |
My vet charges 120.00 to spay and 39.00 for the elective pre-surgery bloodwork which will be done. |

How is Bella feeling now? Is she home? I hope Friday getz the dissolvable sutures (I think Monday did, but it was 4 years ago....who remembers??? I don't recall bringing her back to have them removed.) Thanks for the info ... |
okay, I got the invoice for Friday's spaying today .... the property taxes must have gone up very HIGH! This is an estimate only ... in house prep (inc CBC, U/A) |
